Sega has not had too many hiccups in the hardware area if you look at them historically....Sure Sega Saturn bombed pretty hard, but all manufacturers have had a turd or two:
Nintendo: Virtual Boy & N64
Sega: Saturn & 32x
Atari: Jaguar
Sony has been successful thus far, since only have had (until recently) one console offering. Who's not to say the PS3 will bomb? The real factor is always the software support and trends(ie. mascots, social trends, etc.)...what has saved Nintendo's sorry ass N64? One word Pokemon!(and to a smaller extent the Zelda hype)....geez even the new version of the console might as well be called the Poke64! Jaguar...no real software library..and if I remember right, the price was a little steep at the time. Sega Saturn was a bear to develop for and saw limited sucess overseas, but not in U.S. 32x was hyped way too much and didn't deliver. Sony had an exceptional freshman outing....and doesn't seem to be about to fall into a "sophmore slump"....but time will tell. Sony is still the new kid on the block, until Xbox comes along. All of the above mentioned companies have had excellent first systems(and even some seconds). You could have the most poly-per-second, trilinear flip-mip-whip mapping, pre rastering engine on the planet, but if you dont have the right mascot or licenses, and have developer friendly (or at least workable)tools....you're gonna have a bomb. And never forget luck!
Wow...I don't even want to know the price on that bad-boy!! Yipes! And if it were to ever break (the repair costs must be astronomical) it'd make one hell of a lounge chair, just flip that sucker on its side and throw some cushions on it!
Heh, I agree...I'm sure there's alot of Label big-shots breathing down their necks.. BUT the director or some guy in charge (can't remember name, morning coffee didn't kick in)over at SDMI said that they had seriously considered the possibility of them being cracked and have a plan in place in case that were to happen. Whats that plan? To take all your vacation time now while you can?:) I'm interested in seeing what exactly the status is...even though it will be cracked if it hasn't in fact been already.
Since they've felt like they are winning the "battle", this is just bloated shit-talking...but you can't help but be taken aback by the sheer arrogance of the statements. "We're coming into YOUR world NOW! We're gonna cut you off at every possible means to get our product thats not approved by UBER-SONY.."..and so on and so on....
First off....yeah it sure sounds like some ill-informed ranting...but what bothers me is the delusional perception of near absolute power that they think they have( or to be fair, that Steve Heckler thinks they possess..)
And all this over the approximated loss of money. When will SONY become a government Bureau?? LOL
I enjoyed Lain, moreso for visuals and settings than story..and to compare it to the Matrix, I dunno...which was in production first? Not that that even matters since Media has been recycled over and over for a long time now. If you had seen Lain first, THEN the Matrix you may be argueing that all Hollywood does is rip off Anime.....
AND why hasn't Pokey the Penguin been updated in many weeks?? I'm beginning to get concerned...that strip is very intellectual...its like a MENSA comic strip!LOL!
I need Pokey UPDATED!
You wouldnt have to worry about over heating....but what about a splash of coffee or soda..I'd be a little nervous with THAT much internal exposure! But thats just me...the case definately will make you do a double take
yeah, that is really sad....one of the initial things that led me to buy SuSe to begin with was the balance of Price / Distro / and configurability...by jacking the price up this much it severely screws that balance. In all, I've been happy with it, but I certainly would have thought twice or three times if it was at that price.....maybe they noticed what kind of money red-hat was making and jumped on the wagon.
Regardless of what means you "share" your files with, people are still going to do it. Closing Napster will do absolutely nothing. People will use Gnutella ( or any of the various builds out there ), Icq, FTP...whatever...the cat is out of the bag The RIAA's perceived losses are nothing but speculation, I can tell you that I certainly would not have ever bought ( even if it was available on CD ) the various 80's cartoon theme songs that I got off Napster...as well as various bands live and "bootleg" recordings from overseas. Why did I get them, because I was curious to hear them or for nostalgia reasons...for fun really. Not because I'm cheap or want to screw anyone out of money.. Certainly there are those who will take this opportunity too far, but it certainly will not stop.
the Plaintiffs "choice" of which URL to download DeCSS from as an example: http://home.rmci.net/bert/fuckthelawyers hahahaha seriously, if this case was going on when DeCSS was first released..did you think they would have mentioned zdnet as a download site??! Because it was...
The whole fair use issue really is amusing in some cases, I was reading up on regional selector MOD's for my DVD player the other day, and on one of the sites I'd browsed thru the guy had excerpts from the Warranty/docs that came with his player, stating roughly.." Any unauthorized attempts to modify this unit can result in a suspension of your right to use this player" Thats hilarious!! really...unless the DVD police start making unannounced spot checks and repo-ing players in private residences, what exactly is the point of even printing that kind of crap? *KNOCK KNOCK* Excuse me, gotta go someones at the door...:p
True that many use the RL alot in regular game, arena games are alot quicker paced and you get to watch the "winners" technique, so when its your turn to jump in you have a game plan...alot of fun..
the first 35th Post?? LMAO...knucklehead!
