  1. Re:I like my Turbo Diesel on CEO Confirms Chevy To Sell Diesel Cruze In US · · Score: 2

Diesels work by compressing gas more. They have a much higher compression ratio than gasoline cars. Compressed gas heats up, and due to the high compression ratios in diesels, they do it to the point where the air in the cylinder gets so hot that it burns up on its own. So they use absolutely no source of ignition. How hot the air in the cylinder gets depends on ambient temperature. So in winter they could have a problem. Diesels have glow plugs to compensate for this. They are noting more than electric heating elements that get really hot inside the cylinder. They are only used for starting the engine, really only needed in cold weather. Once the engine is running they are not powered anymore. Consequently if you have a diesel that is hard to start in cold weather you probably have problems with the glow plugs (they are worn out and need replacing or the connection to them is loose). Diesels are also harder to start because of the higher compression rate, which makes it harder to turn over. So in the winter time a block heater can be used to heat up the oil to aid in turning it over. Now with all that I have a 1994 TDI golf. Here in Canada we get to -10C -15C easy in the winter but I rarely have problems. Just make sure you got a good battery, but I think that goes for any car in that weather.

Interesting. If this is true they were probably moving in sync, and accidentally matched the resonant frequency of the building. It was a similar problem with that wobbly bridge that collapsed shortly after completion, but that was resonating from the wind. Whats interesting is that they managed to do this from the 12th floor of the building. It must not have very good resonant properties. Luckily wind rarely buffets or changes at such a quick frequency, so they are safe from that, but I would really worry about even very minor quakes.

Or you could get those Chinese phones with two sim slots. But it wont help you. They also log your phones IMEI number, so even though you change the sim card to one out of the country, they still know its your phone. These scenarios go to too much trouble. Really its easy as, go to a store and buy a $60 pay as you go phone, and wait a year. (store camera footage may be gone by then or at least harder to find) Now you have a safe anonymous phone. And make sure you buy fill ups with cash too. Oh yea, don't let them find this phone on you ;) Cheaper solution? Use pay-phones.

Manual also gives much better mileage in the city. Just look up any manufacturer specs. Highway driving is more efficient in automatics because they have not smartened up enough to put a high overdrive gear into manuals. Then it would be equal. Manual also makes you a better driver because simply it forces you to understand what the car is doing, and makes you a bit more attentive.

The solution to it? Let them do it. I mean its inconvenient enough, and those people would probably not buy the products anyways, and alienating possible customers is never a good solution. So make it inconvenient to steal it, and cheaply affordable. Those that want it will buy it. Those that just muck around will not buy it anyways. Unlike with brick and mortar stores, you haven't lost anything other than a couple MB of data transfer. But I think the good will and retainment of those willing to pay is much more important to keep. This is something most companies have not learned yet.

Agree with this. Any game can really be completed in 7 days. However it would not affect utilities, and tools that you would use on a day to day basis. It would only affect those games that you can beat in 7 days. Which is anything other than pointless addictive farmville clones. Those games never end. On the other hand, whats to stop a person from buying the game, returning it, then buying it again. Oh now we are getting into the same problem brick and mortar stores have to deal with. Hmmm.
