Yes. I don't know if it's related, but Namecheap is currently under attack too and I'm personally affected by it. You cannot currently make any changes to DNS records and the domains resolve slowly. That means tens of thousands of customers and businesses.

What does everyone suggest that they would do? Of course they will have to get the one that causes trouble for so many other customers. anyDNS was also being tolerable about it - they told wikileaks they will cease the service for them after 24 hours. During that time all it would had taken from Wikileaks was to change their nameserver records somewhere else. No domain has been taken down.

In fact, screw sentences and court. Let's just kill anyone that breaks laws.

Microsoft kind of does oppose software patents. When have you seen them going after other companies if they don't provoke the legal fight first? They have also freed their patents to open and free-to-use patents organizations. The only cases where Microsoft has used their patents portfolio to fight against patent trolls is, well, when the patent troll has started going after MS first.

Ultimately, the whole software patent system is faulty. But currently, companies have to go by it and that means Microsoft has to register their patents too. Blame the system.

Beside, it seems like people on slashdot agree to these leaks when it's about China, North Korea or Russia, but when it's about US it's now wrong. For many of non-US people, it has always looked like US is the one breaking every rule under the earth to do what they want to and then apparently we should look them as "good" guys. Media does have a lot to do with that, but having double standards on issues like this is just sad.

Wii HD. Seriously, the only problem with Wii is the really old graphics. Say what you want about gameplay and graphics comparison, but it doesn't feel nice to play games with such old looking graphics. Old classics or games especially made towards that purpose, sure, but it looks really bad with 3D games.

Besides, having good looking graphics doesn't mean you can't have great gameplay too.

So now developers are accused of making their games too fun to play? After all, there is a reason you like about the game if you continue playing it.

I'd say we should encourage publishers to bring even more addicting games. Me, and many other people on slashdot, seem to lost interest in games quickly.

If an addiction becomes a problem for you, it is your job to quit doing it and not take away the fun from others. Should we also ban alcohol, gambling, tobacco and so on just because some people have problems overdoing it while others are perfectly capable doing it moderately? If you have an addiction, there is something else missing or wrong in your life, and you should fix that.

It's all good and all, but at most WebM will now be an alternative for the big guy H.264 which is already widely supported by computers, mobile phones, consoles, tv's... and is the superior format. WebM provides too little too late.

Personally I think making so many different formats will create the same hell that was around the year 2000 with WMV, RealPlayer and so on. We've finally established a single and simple way to embed video in to websites and that is flash with H.264. It has been working great.

For an analogy.. like in Buddhism, maybe we should all tolerate each other. Buddhism has four genders - man, woman, ladyboy and hermafrodites. Just the same way we can have H.264, WebM, Theora and hell, WMV. Lets let everyone be like they are, use them what they want and love each other. Remember karmas law - say something bad about other formats and it will come back to you in the future. Lets support each other and improve technology together.

  24. Lack of support on Should Sony Team With Google On a PlayStation Phone? · · Score: 0, Troll

There is one major advantage that all Sony, Google and Android are missing - good support for game developers tools, availability of indie games and the support of 23 million Xbox Live subscripters.

However, the upcoming Windows Mobile 7 has all those advantages. You can easily develop for it using C# and Microsoft provides libraries and environments like XNA. Also, when you develop using C# and XNA, the game instantly works on all PC, Xbox 360 and the upcoming mobile phones. A huge advantage for developers.

On the other hand, Sony's PSP is just a gaming device. By this age it's way too much to carry around mobile phone, gaming device and everything else. Mobile devices are a lot more powerful now and you can fit everything in your phone.

Developers also hate coding for Sony's systems. I think both Gabe Newell and John Carmack have said developing for them is absolute nightmare and programming for them is completely different from other consoles. Microsoft here has huge advantage since the code you make works for big amount of other platforms. At most you only need to rewrite the graphics and maybe some game logic, but with indie games you may not even need to do that.

These are all the things that both Sony and Google are missing. iPhone developers also wont shy away from developing for Windows Mobile as it's practically the same and the market is/will be huge. I don't think the future of gaming will be PSP, it will be Windows Mobile.
