Desjardins is actually a company from Quebec which, last time I checked, was still part of Canada.
And believe me, even with the best discount, you don't want to be insured with them.
Sure there is. You swipe from the left side of the screen and all active background windows appear. You drag the little window you want to kill across the screen and down to the bottom edge. Once you've done it a few times it's a simple swiping gesture.
And this is discoverable how ?
Do you even use Windows 8.1 on a tablet to know what you're talking about?? I'm on my second Windows tablet, because I decided I wanted a bigger 10" display and physical keyboard (got an Asus Transformer, old machine was a Venue 8 Pro)
Oh, so you are saying Windows 8.1 is for tablets only, not suitable for a desktop.
I've bought a few apps and I'm used to the way that Android works, so I really don't want to abandon it, but the lack of updates seriously makes me want to avoid them in the future.
When you can't log into your damn bank because it's said that IE6 is too old, your system is end-of-life. That's the end of it. Because to fix it, bodge it, fake it, or upgrade it costs more than just following the rest of the world in their lowest-accepted technology standard.
You can just install another browser that is more secure than ANY version of IE anyway, like Firefox or Chrome
Even better, install a secure OS : https://www.debian.org/distrib...
I picked my two: reliable and simple. That's why I picked Debian.
I use Debian for the same reason
See init get complicated in the name of a faster boot gives me heartburn.
You need a system that boot fast when you reboot often. I don't care if my Linux system takes a couple seconds more to boot since I almost never reboot it.
Has anyone seriously used this for anything other than writing Windows shareware in the 1990s?
Lots of big programs have been written in Delphi, the most famous one being Skype (before MS bought it and rewrote it. Note how it became huge and slow).
or had some way of using your existing C++ code they might have had a chance.
Whilst Linux and OS X have no registry to clog up things, running out of disk space is a lot more painful on *nix than it is on Windows.
If a Linux machine is left with zero space, it will still boot but you will not have any log of it since there is no space to write it.
If a Windows machine is left with zero space, it will fail to boot.
So failing to boot is less painfull ?
Your logic escape me
I'll also note that Linux is by no means free of crappy packages. There are some great ones out there, to be sure -- but many distros bundle some substandard crap with them as part of the default install. I'll spend time on pretty much any Linux install I've set up pruning useless packages and replacing them with better alternatives.
On my KDE-based laptop, it just popup a box giving me the choice to open it in my file browser. How hard can that be ?
Installing a printer on linux is alot more cumbersome and is less step by step
WTF are you talking about ? Every time I plug a printer in my laptop it just automagically detects it and configure it.
Want to talk about confusing ? let's talk about Windows Hate. Every time I show it to a windows 7 user and I ask them to power the machine off, after about two minutes of searching, they all hit the same thing : the power button
why wouldn't a chromebook need antivirus? It is a computer system that has vulnerabilities, like any OS.
Not all OS are created equal. I've been running Linux on my laptop for years, without an anti-virus, and never got anything.
Windows is crap security wise, get over it
Bell and Videotron in Montreal have those limits (they are also TV providers)
Videotron is offering unlimited packages. I added $10/month on my package to have it unlimited.
Bell I don't know as I would prefer to NOT have internet access than dealing with them
Mandate drip irrigation and make sure people are maintaining their plumbing properly.
That's easy to fix : put water meters at every house and make people pay per-gallon. You'll see people fixing their plumbing the day right after they receive the first bill
Problem is, most people - and that includes this embedded systems engineer - just want the damn thing to *work* without having to mess with it for some update or other every damn day.
Install Debian stable and you will be pleased. Even a major version upgrade just works (ex.: from 6 to 7)
Delphi is basically object oriented pascal. Back in the early days of Windows it was as popular programming environment but its popularity began to wane as Visual Basic/C++ were much better suited for Windows 95 development.
Visual Basic better suited... you must be kidding !
Visual Basic is good for nothing, not even fast prototyping.
On Error : resume next
Nope. According to everybody I talk to, Windows8 UI sucks.
Skydrive / cloud storage? Yep.
With the space Win8 takes on the device, it better comes with a huge cloud storage.
Nice looking device? Yep.
Not better looking than any tablet on the market. Actually, I find the Galaxy Tab and iPad to be way more nice looking than Surface.
What exactly are these missing features that everyone wants that they can get from Android and iPad tablets??
A good android tablet cost at least 50% less than a Surface.
The better question would be : what are the features that Surface is providing that you can't have on an Android tablet for half the price ?
If you are in tech, you are stuck in windows. Period. All of our industry tools are windows only.
Strange, as I work in the tech industry and I run Linux on all my machines. I only have a Windows VM for a grand total of ONE program I must use that is still windows only: a cellular router configuration GUI.
Ubuntu is not Linux. And yes, Ubuntu sucks on lot's of things (don't get me started on Unity).
You should try the same Linux NASA is using in space : Debian
Ubuntu is based on it, except they take the unstable development branch and put custom patches on it to make it more unstable.
The CentOS install I have doesn't let you unlock the screen. You have to switch users to get back in.
What the f**k did you screw with to have a machine that won't let you unlock the screen ?
I have a laptop with ubuntu, one with Mint, a desktop with Debian stable and a server with CentOS : all of which are letting me unlock the screen.
Hell, my laptop automatically locks when I walk away from it and unlocks when I get back to it thanks to BlueProximity.
You must have worked really hard to come up with it or you are just full of shit.
I won't even buy an OEM install because it's got so much crap on it -- my mother in law and my wife's laptops took so much time to disable all of the shit it wasn't funny. What should be on paper a decent machine with nice specs is full of shit that slows it down and makes it unusable, because there's no memory left.
I was tired of removing crap and just ordered a nice machine from these folks without any crap on it
while moderating you as funny, hit overrated by mistake. this comment is undoing it.
why is the only solution to this problem equals to cancelling every mods done in this discussion ?
.....You do realize Windows Phone market share is growing faster than any other currently?
Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they hide is vital.
Take this simple example:
Company A as only 1 user of their phone. Then another person buy the phone. Now there is only two user, but they just doubled their users, 100% increase !
Company B as 100 users of their phone. Then another person buy the phone. Now there is 101 usersm but only 1% increase
If you only look at the stats, Company A is growing way faster than Company B.

Just buy a Nexus phone then

she still is in no position to manage it. Trying to pretend that she's a person really doesn't change this.
According to you, being a person means being able to manage money.
If this is true, I know some humans that should not be considered a person

One word : Debian
Thank god for not saying "could care less".
I could care less, but not without a lobotomy
When I plug in a usb drive, does it automount?

It took a ridiculously long time, and I had to reboot 3 times with more updates each time, but that was all there was to it.
Only 3 reboots ? WTF ??
I can upgrade a Debian stable machine from 6.0 to 7.0 with only ONE reboot.
I'm glad I don't use windows anymore.
