I have a GO-VIDEO DVD-VCR combo. The main reason I bought it was because it has a feature called AUTOPLAY(R). I put the DVD in and the movie immediately starts playing. No previews. No federal warning. No Menu.
Do not use the people in the strip malls. They do not know any more about preparing taxes than you do. Last year I did them with Turbo Tax and then took them to my accountant. My tax accountant charged me $150 and got me an additional $1400! Find someone reputable. Ask your friends who they use. If you live in the DFW area I will be happy to recommend someone.
We call this a barter tax. Legally you are supposed to pay taxes on anything you get for free. In other word; If you buddy helps you build a computer and the reasonable and customery charge for that service is $100, you should claim that $100 as taxable income. BTW: This isn't the worst April Fools story I have ever seen, but its close.
The LD50 for caffeine is estimated at 150 mg/kg body weight or approximately 10 grams for the averaged size human. There is about 125 mg in 1 cup of coffee, which is about 12.5g/100 cups. So yes, there is little over a 50% chance it could kill you.
That has nothing to do with copyright law. The artists have, in most cases, signed a contract that either gives up those rights completely or at they very least assigns the right to control the works to a record label. The record label in turn has assigned the defense of those rights to the RIAA.
Whether you agree that the artists should be required to sign these types of contracts is yet another issue.
You said it yourself, "I always thought dead was dead." Just because you don't call it "murder" doesn't mean someone isn't still dead. The same goes for theft. If you infringe on someone's copyright you have stolen something. That something is their right, granted to them under The Constitution, to control how their work is "copied".
I might take a different tack and sue everybody for violating my civil rights if I was the RIAA.
Before I get flamed, I don't agree with the way that the RIAA is handling this and it very well might be extortion. But they do have the right to control the distribution of there copyrighted work.
I like your point. You can also look at who is excluded from the Do Not Call list. Interestingly enough its most of the people with a lot of polititions in their pocket.
And even I don't have trouble finding what I am looking for on Google. Maybe the guy just needs to revise his search. Or could there be another more sinister reason to write this article???

Dude,
The Speed of light is not constant. The oft quoted speed of light is the speed of light in a vacuum. See Here.
Actually the legal theory that applies is "plain view." If I have a search warrant to search your bedroom and I find a meth lab in a locked room off of your kitchen, that is illegal search and seisure. If on the other hand I have that same warrant and as I am walking past your kitchen and see a meth lab, I have every right to bust you. IANAL but I used to do the LE thing.
I live in Texas, which was controlled by SouthWestern Bell now SBC. We all hate SBC. I had my DSL and my phone with them. Every time I word ask them to repair their crappy DSL, they would try to charge my $60 for what they would admit was their problem. After going through this three or four times, I had finally had enough. My sister had had a good experience with Birch Telecom when she set up here business line. I figured they couldn't be any worse than SBC. The first thing I did was call SBC and cancel my DSL. Then I called Birch. They gentleman at Birch apologized and said they were unable to hook me up because I still had DSL on my line. I told him I had already canceled it. He said he check it late and call me back on Friday. I know you are not going to believe this, but he actually called me back. My service was hooked up 2 weeks later. I haven't had any problems since. I did have 1 billing question. When I called a person, a real live human being answered the phone. I am amazed.
As a US citizen (stop booing), why is a ruthless dictator in Bagdad, any of my business. Two hundred and some odd years ago, we had a similar problem with a dictator here. We kicked his ass out of our country. Yes, we had help, but the key is that we wanted it bad enough that we took the risk. We did it. We did not have some other country decide it was time for us to change our government. I do not have a problem with the fighting for what I believe in, but what exactly is it that we are supposed to believe in, in this situation? Yes Saddam and his ilk (yes I used a word that I am not sure what it means) are sadistic SOBs, but what makes him any different that 100 other tyrants around the world. Are we trying to prevent future terrorism or Saddam's support of terrorism? I believe in America we call this prior restraint. If there are crimes that Saddam has committed against us, let's define them. Are we punishing Saddam for 9/11? It is relatively common knowledge that Saddam had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11. Ossama Bin Laden thinks Saddam is almost as evil as he thinks we are. Are we trying to get rid of the newly coined WMD? Then we probably need to go after other unstable governments that have them, like India, Pakistan, Korea, and Russia. Where to we get off telling people that can't have the same toys we have anyway? Who the hell do we think we are? Do we need more oil? Then, raise the price of gas. I am happy to pay more at the pump, if it prevents people from dying. Why is W declaring war on this guy? I thought only congress had the ability to declare war. Yes, Yes. War Powers Act...yadda..yadda..yadda..blah..blah..blah. The War Powers act was meant to be used in a situation like Peal Harbor, where we are attacked outright. It was not meant to be used so that the President could kill whoever he wanted for 90 days. What ever happened to snipers? Why are we sending in a quarter of a million soldiers to wreak havoc on this country? If the real goal is to get rid of Saddam, wouldn't six SEALS and a couple of sniper rifles to just as good a job for less money.
If the appeals were automatic, why even have a lower court ruling, why not, in that case just take the case to the highest court for the final decision.
The problem with you theory is that the appeal is not automatic. Sometimes you get off the first time and sometime you have to go two or even three times. That uncertainty and the fact the the appeal is based on a prosecutorial whim is what makes it double jeopardy. If the appeal were automatic them you would be aboslutely correct. It would be on long protracted trial, with intermediate decisions.
What ever your semantics the effect is the same. You are in jeopardy twice (hence the term "Double Jeopardy") of going to jail. I go through one trail. I win. I'm free. (Now pay close attention, this is where that double part comes in.) They appeal I have to go though the process again. I am in jeopardy a second time (there's that nasty double again) of being punished. Just because the don't say "two prosecutions" doesn't mean its not double jeopardy.
If you live in texas you are in reasonably good shape on the final paycheck thing.

Everybody deserves protection. Even spammers. Government should be as open as possible, even if it makes the governments job more difficult.

If he agreed to it with the UN, shouldn't the UN be the one to enforce it. We are not the UN we are the US.
