    If Verizon owns the network and Google is using it for free, wouldn't that mean that Verizon is not charging them for lunch? If so, who is to blame other than the person giving away lunch? I mean, why is this anyone else's problem?

    You can't arrest someone for shoplifting something if you're giving it away. I'm not saying that that's what's happening, but that seems to be the play that Verizon is attempting to make.

    Third, your whole attack scheme is just a big run around for no reason. If you can write a binary called 'la', why wouldn't you just write it as 'ls' in the first place, istead of crossing your fingers and hoping he mistypes?

    This one's an easy one. Far easier to write a command that will spit out "la: not found" than one that will work exactly like ls on the system that you're on.

    If I'm not mistaken, Samba could be used to join those machines to the Windows domain you'd need. Not sure how Windows Networking works under wine though, if that's what you're doing.

(though I don't know if I really believe that there are people who're ACTUALLY this fucking retarded -- I think religious convictions just sound marginally better than greed) they think that the world is not going to be around because that is what god wants and that they are powerless to A) cause global warming or B) stop it.

    I'm not sure about this, but I wonder if the ID stance doesn't include a lack of concern for extinction as well.h

    Tell you what... when I was a kid, we had snow days. There were at least two or three big days of snow each year.

    Now, I think the last time we had decent snow was '03. That was the best year for snow in a couple years in each direction. Already from several storms every year to really zero in a coule years is a noticable change.

    My point is that the story write-up makes it sound like SJ is lying, and he's not. He's just presenting the best set of benchmarks he can, which is pretty much what I expect from the CEO of the company...

    So, misrepresentation is how much better than lying?

    I'll agree to that. If I want to do something other than standard stuff that's in the respository, you're going to run into trouble. But when Kubuntu came along, I did install it on my laptop and it's working out just great.

    Floppies are obnoxious and prone to failure, unfortunately. Especially Linux boot floppies, as they tend to use the whole disk.

    The coffee thing is a myth. It was a valid case. The coffee was FAR too hot (no one expects to be hospitalized for spilling coffee on themselves), and internal memos showed they knew this.
