". It may be interesting to compare the bubble dynamics of Guinness with lambic, though prohibitively expensive if you live in America... decent lambic goes for $7-$12 a 12 oz. bottle, if you're lucky enough to find it stateside."
MMmmm Belgian Lambic. I could not get enough when I was in Belgium, and to my suprise, was able to find Lindeman's (on tap) at various places when I was in San Francisco. Look for it next time you visit.
As for PA, if I decide to entertain my taste buds, I pick up a bottle for $9 at a bar.
"Hmmm, are all of those others stouts and ales that I've seen doing it pressurised with N2 when on tap? ie. is it unique to just N2 powered drinks?
I have only seen Guinness and Boddington's on N2 taps here in the states. I believe I saw others when I was in London, but I forget which ones. Possibky one of the Fuller's, but that would only be a guess.
In my senior year at Pitt I interviewed with someone from UPMC. It was for a y2k COBOL/DB conversion project. But at that time (early 1997) that was what mostly everyone was looking for.
COBOL programming did not interest me at all. Now that I am 80% done with my masters I *might* consider looking into oppurtunites in Pittsburgh. But this time, I have a little more experience on my side.
This discussion will be null and void in about 32 hours because the world is going to lose power and blow up.
Or so the media wants us to think.
So the real statistic should be:
How many FreeBSD machines are connected to an EPS (eternal power supply) and can update uptimes.net via floppy disk, since the internet won't work either.
IPOs are typically used to obtain working capital for business development.
My thought: they are worried about new palm devices hurting 3com's bottom line. So they spin the palm division off to seperate it from 3com. And if handspring, et. al. start to drown the palm division, only the stock holders of the PDA stock are feeling the heat -- not all of 3com.

It is illegal to have sex in a turnpike ticket booth. This is in response to a situation when a female turnpike employee had sex with a truck driver in the booth.
The question is, if Linux becomes very popular, would it still be Linux?
Depends on your definition of "very popular."
Nonetheless, I don't think it "would still be Linux" in the same sense. IMO, for it to become "very popular" a solid release/version/what-have-you would have to be released which had support out the a$$ -- that normal idiots could get to work. A version like this is not freeforming and "open," as I see it. So, it would not be the ever-changing linux of today.
I was happy to see the AMD commercial for two reasons:
1. IMO, the TV commercial means that AMD is finally reaching the masses (the people that wouldn't buy anything excpet that "Intel Inside" sticker). Making Intel shake, and continue to lower prices.
2. I finally got AMD's pronunciation of that stupid marketing nickname. Better than pentium, that's for sure.
Isnt there something else out there that we all could be devoting our CPU time to?
Sure there is. Devote your idle cycles to SETI@Home (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence).
It has been talked about numerous times in the past on/.
Personally, I do not belive that searching outer space is more productive than making it known to the powers that be that the current encryption algorithms are inadequate and should be replaced by something stronger -- like rc5.
"The other CPU of interest at AMD seems to be the imminent K6-2+ 500MHz, running with a 100Mhz front side bus and manufactured on a.18micron process. This CPU, which will harbor 128K L2 cache on-die will hit the market in Q1 of 2000.
Very interesting -- sounds like a good cheap processor to snatch up and overclock. The inexpensive nature of this processor is exactly why M$ is interested, along with myself.
I have Redhat 5.2 installed on my Multia. I have talked about getting a broswer to work on that machine for some time now, without my effort and success.
If I were to d/l this latest release of WINE:
1. Would the Redhat 5.2 files of WINE work with my alpha installation?
2. Assuming 1. - Would I be able to use navigator/exploder under WINE on the alpha?
Would you mind posting a link to the download location for this Linux Alpha version of Netscape?
I did not see it at Netscape.

This site DeCSS Central, has some very good information and insight into the DeCSS hoopla.
Plus some good Linux DVD related links.

Doh.
clf:~> ssh1 -V
SSH Version 1.2.27 [i586-unknown-linux], protocol version 1.5.
Standard version. Does not use RSAREF.
is more useful.
sorry.
This is what I get:
clf:~> ssh -V
ssh: SSH Version 2.0.13
I'm ok, right?

"perfect for a small office or your house. "
Might be a good way to get MP3 music out to my stereo in the living room, not to mention any other beep or bell that my computer puts out.
becuase the normal village idiot can't figure out how to get samba to work with 9X/NT. Their $1200 loss.

Is VA Systems going to do the same thing as Redhat and only offer those IPO shares via E-Trade or something similiar.
Nonetheless, the problems with the Redhat IPO have already been addressed.

Does anyone really care about their slashdot moderation? I know I've got better things to worry about (like actual real work).
... that way I only get the good posts.
The only reason I will say I care is when there are 200+ posts I will browse at level "2"
I would not rate this post with the AC posts.

People need to take into consideration the time of the posts when awarding their "redundancy" moderation.
... people without a sense of humor.
This post came a whoppnig 2 minutes after the earlier post joking about the winblows "test mode."
And IMHO the 16-color VGA bit is funny, not redundant.

I pronounce it like this -- Linux!
