C'mon Epic....how the hell are we suppose to get games on the fastest growing platform supported if someone doesn't take the first step? If GT is being the bad guy here, then someone needs to let them know that they are going to LOSE in the FPS arena to Q3 just because they were too stupid to allow the binaries to be included on the same CD. Either that, or the fear of M$ must still hold some weight with developers. Either way, we all lose. Grow a spine.
Having worked for Yale University, I can tell you that there were pleanty of mortar and brick businesses with the Yale/Bulldog name and logo that were not being shut down by Yale. Hell, ever hear of Yale Locks? And of course, there is a Yale, CT too. Having visted purdueonline.com and seen it's content, it's my opinion that this is another case of paranoid idiots trying to gobble up all the domain names they can in order to not allow for any external comments/services outside of the sanctioned university ones. Remember the story a few months back about all the domains that George Bush Jr. had purchased? Same thing. It seems to me that a 2-bit school like Purdue (yes, thats exactly what it is) would benefit from a positive website that offers it's students a FREE service that doesn't require any additional work by the school sysadmins. And it's been mentioned pleanty of times above and I'll ask it too: what does a university want with a.com domain? Are they planning on making money with it or offering free internet services? This has the smell of a marketing scheme if ever I smelled one. Remember the ol Dibert cartoon: "Marketing: 2 drink minimum".
Let's see....canned food...bottled water....12 guage shotgun with about 50 slugs (no buckshot here). Yup! I'm prepeared:P Oh yeah, I'll be on an airplane that day, too. I can't wait til this entire stupidity is behind us. I hope our children will be able to look back at this in history and laugh at us. Cause I sure as hell will be.
I gotta say that while this is good news for Linux in general, I personally would prefer a client before the server. I know for a fact that my job will NOT be moving the R5 server off the NT platform but dammit, why the fsck can't Lotus do us IT guys a REAL favor and make a client! I hate having to use the R5 client thru winframe. It blowz! C'mon...if they can make a Mac one, why not one for Linux? Lotus is approaching this all wrong. Just my 2 cents...
I agree that a SecuRemote client would be my first choice over the FW/VPN but hey, at least they didn't say "No". Best I can hope for I suppose. Thanks for the info.
We currently use Firewall-1 and VPN at work and if I want to connect to our system via my @Home connection, I have to use Windoze. So the big question is, will I be able to connect to our system from Linux? It'll make my Winframe connection to our system complete!:)
Excuse me but, why would the government need credit card details unless they are planning on direct billing you straight from you card?? If thats not the case, then what? Plus, this law reads all fine and dandy for websites, but what about the newsgroups? I mean, if I personally want porn, I go straight to the newsgroups. Screw all these "membership" sites and what not. I think somebody needs to take away all the wacky weed that the Aussie government has been smoking lately.
...i just so happen to have a Propaganda tile as my background even as I type.:) I love the whole "JFK" theme and story. It's great! And somewhere I still have the best little tile he ever made which reads "Instead of giving Windows the 3 finger salute, let's give it the 1 finger goodbye." Hehheh. Guess I know where I'll be this afternoon.
Neil Gaiman reads/. ? Very cool. I remember the first time I picked up Sandman #1 and thought "Whoa!" I was hooked from then on. Guess I'll have to order my signed copy or maybe I'll make the drive to Minneapolis to get Dream Hunters and Sandman #1 signed. It's a short drive from Wisconsin:) Either way, it's great to see Mr. Gaiman writing Sandman again. I was bummed when he stopped writing the monthly.
...then the oh-so-ever thoughtful and kind users at my job won't mind me downing our servers while I kick back and drink another can of Jolt and scarf M&M's. I mean, it's not like we do ANY work around there...those Novell servers run ALL by themselves with NO problems whatsoever...especially the ARCserve server..now there's a QUALITY piece of software that never, EVER decides to abend itself in the middle of a full backup...no SIR! QUALITY!..it's what ARCserve and CA are ALL about! (insert sarcasm where appropriate);)
Looks like it's either/.ed or their servers are offline while they fix this little "problem"......Heh, I just made myself laugh pretty hard writing that last comment;) This is truly unreal.
Yes, I'm sure that if I really wanted to, I could download the MP3 version of the album the day it's released and so forth but, dammit! I'm a huge Bowie fan..I have all the cd's and a LOT of albums and I would have probably bought a few songs in mp3 format but no way in HELL am I buying that SDMI crap. Guess I'll just have to wait the 2 extra weeks for the cd.
These are the same jerks who 2 months ago were calling Linux inferior and talking crap about the Linux community. Now, because they realize the IMPACT on their marketshare that Linux has created, they are whisteling a different tune. Screw that. I think we can do just fine without SCO on board. Besides, we are getting support from the UNIX big boys now. We don't need a 2 bit flavor.
ok...let's go back a bit: to the Anonymous Asshole who made the remark about me "not being able to find spell checker", I said that the WEB INTERFACE (that would be that little "E" or "N" icon on your desktop, sparky) does NOT have a spell checker option....LOTUS themselves varified this and are adding it to their next update cause enough people bitched about it. Next, my end users couldn't give a ratsass about LotusScript..javascript or any other kind of script. They want their email to work and work NOW! Not 5 to 10 mins later. Not ALL our people have P2-500s for desktops and like I said earlier, R5 is a SLOWASS WHORE on a P100. Maybe the Linux version of R5 (if they ever make it) will scream on a P100 but, my company does not condone Linux and until it does, we have to deal with it on winblowz. Plus, if I want a database that kicksass, I'll stick to MySQL...which, I actually do anyways:) So, while this thread has proved quite "insightful" to Domino/R5, I think I'll keep running it off of MetaFrame and let the server use up it's resources until LOTUS releases a Linux client. As for our endusers, they are SOL thanks to another management impluse buying binge.
Actually, Lotus is not a "linux cronie" as you put it. They are reaching for ANY platform and inroad they can get. Anyone who has worked with ccMail and Notes 4.6 knows that they are TERRIBLE pieces of bloatware....and R5 is no different. My company is implementing the entire Domino Notes package in order to get rid of that crap Organizer/ccMail combination and I can say first hand that Notes R5 ran like a used up whore on my P2-350. It does provide a java interface for those of us using Linux but guess what...there is no Spell Checker. IMHO, it blows.
...was that they buried the fact that if you get this promotional offer, you are agreeing to allow yourself to be added to their mailing list. This is stated in the RULES section. Now, while I don't mind (most of the time) being added to a mailing list, I prefer to be ASKED up front like when I'm placing my order or something. I filled out their "user survey" and made some remarks about this. But, for $6.00, I wanted to try these things out. They looked like fun. Guess it's time to create another filter for my email;)
Many thanks to everyone that posted all the download sites for SuSE. I have obviously gone BLIND from the excitement that I didn't see all those sites. Thanks again.:)
uh..is it just me or does this sound like the LAMEST excuse for why they took down Packet Storm? I find it extremly HARD to believe that they would have had no knowlegde of the site "content". Unless their "security" is extremly lax, this stinks of the "uh..I didn't know murder was illegal" routine that Steve Martin used to use in his stand-up routines. I think Harvard jumped the gun here...period. It appears that they do not have the courage to swallow their pride and admit that their screwed up (this is standard Ivy League policy). It would have gone a LONG way if they would have simply said "Yup..we jumped the gun. Sorry for the inconvienance, but we don't want this site here." I think the Internet community does better with this kind of "honesty" rather than this bogus excuse. Oh well.
Looks like the/. effect strikes again. Either that, or someone has taken "care" of antionline. Waiting to read their "allegations" before I make a reply. But I agree that destroying ALL of the Packet Storm data is wrong on Harvard's part. Even if their "stellar" image were tarnished by any controversy, they would get over it. It *IS* Harvard afterall.
Woohoo!! First the study finding that men who drink coffee have a longer sex drive into their later years and now this!! With those levels of caffine, I'll be a sexual machine! YeAH, baby, YEAH!!:P

Oh baby...I can't wait for drivers for my Xitel Platinum Storm! Can we say Digital Out mp3s to my MiniDisk recorder? ;)

It's the one question I have about SuSE. I have yet to find a download site for their distribution. I'd like to try it. Thanks
Finially, an Intel clone of the iMac! My dreams of a "portable" Linux box are about to come true! I can't WAIT! :)
