I saw Linus speak at COMDEX in Chicago a few months ago and it seems like he definatly has a "plan" of sorts concerning the direction he wants to take Linux towards. Some of his answers were very similar/same at Comdex, too. I find it interesting that there is no mention about a cataloged file system when he mentioned EXT3. I think Linux needs a high end file system in order to compete with the likes of AIX and IRIX. At least they are ramping up SMP..something I *really* can't wait to see alone with better clustering. All in all, barring some heinous tragedy (Linus "wills" Linux to M$) these are great times in the world of OS's. Watching Linux develop into a "force" is too cool.
I think while this is a GREAT thing for Linux, I have to agree that it should not be the ONLY platform for implemantation. Freedom of choice is what Linux has been about and Tivoli should follow suit. Right now we run it on AIX and it kicks butt! But, it would sure be nice to have a Linux portion added. It's great to see an Enterprise level application moving in this direction.
Yet ANOTHER reason to go Apache. Man, will these guys EVER learn? BTW, an interesting aside to the article that I noticed: Wired actually got the hackers/crackers thing right this time. Will miracles never cease?;)
Who else but Ricardo Montalban could outfit a starshit with fine, corinthian leather and still manage to look cool after having half his face burned off! ST:2 still remains my favorite hands down. Thank you for all the found memories, Mr. Kelly
What the hell is this "RC5" that the doomsayers keep refering to? I for one am enjoying this even if I don't find "ET". Just the fact that so many people are in league across our world contributing to this project is reward enough. It's great to see and paints a better picture of our future. Now, if only I could be added to the Team Slashdot roster already..I think they are having problems with their user database. I'm still waiting....;)
(Score:-1, Flamebait) -what the hell is THIS about?! I'm a pro-linux user. If you can't see the humour here then don't moderate. I was doing my best Darth Vader in light of all the M$ crap flying around here. See that name up there.."Khan"...that means "really cool linux mofo". Remember it!:P
Sure it is...just look at all the links below for mirrors. Like I said, RIAA doesn't know what it's up against. I personnally purchase pleanty of CD's yearly, so do me the favor and get off your fucking high horse of morality. The only reason I download mp3s is to sample the artist so that I don't get stuck with a $15 coaster of deadbeat music like I've done in the past. And in THIS case, I am anxious to hear what amazing sounds John Williams has created for the much awaited SW prequels. I can't wait for the day that RIAA is extinct. I think I'll pull out my vinyl copy of the original Star Wars score and drink a toast to freedom.:P
...the biggest assholes in the U.S. (currently). I'm going to make sure to distribute it to as many MP3 sites as I possibbly can. These idiots just don't get it OR understand what they are up against. All the better to watch them crash and burn;)
Yeah...like we didnt all know this to be true. But it certainly is nice to see it in print(G). Anyways, now I can email this to my boss's boss who's an NT suck-ass regardless of the number of times it crashes on him and we have to repair it. And, after seeing Bill speak at COMDEX on Monday I can tell you that the "spin control" on Win2K is even worse than on NT4. It was surreal.
I hope they pay you a LOT of money to lie so poorly. Remember this name: Lee Atwater. He lied a lot and meet a very ugly end. Don't make the same mistakes he did.
Stage 4: Civil War. What this topic really needs is an acronym that sounds "kewl" I mean DDL(x) where x is the next step. As for Lyco's, I hope they win this one and shove it down the throats of the music industry.
Damn. That was some speech. Next time, use a login and get some credit for your thoughts. I agree, freedom has a high price. And if we do not maintain an eye and a voice on what is goin on, we stand to lose that freedom and turn Linux into another proprietary OS same as everything else. And that would be a very sad day indeed.
..did this just become a M$ rah-rah post or have the kidz from Redmond been allowed access to the web? Either way, time to/ignore those idiotic postings and stick with the main topic: VA and linux.com Let's hope they make an end-all site for the Linux community. It would be nice.

Wow...you actually had enough brain matter left to use hyphens! Thanks for the great laugh, "retard". :)

puh-lease! Like SCO can actualy call itself a decent Unix distro. No thanks, I'll stick with AIX.

Man....has ZDNet become the FUD arm of M$ or what? I wonder what the qualifications are nowadays to become a writer there? Maybe I should apply ;)
