You are just too funny, Mr. Coward! Is that the best you can do? Attack my "childhood"?? What a pathetic attempt on your part. As for your drivel, please, spare me the apocalyptic view that if Micro$oft is broken up into pieces that it will destroy the economy. The economy existed BEFORE micro$oft and it will exist AFTER M$ is dust, too. Oh, and in case you haven't noticed, I never said anything about me being a *NIX engineer. Attacking a field the you know nothing about just shows your ignorance. Here's a quater...go buy a life.;)
I believe the selling point that would stick out over buying an SUV would be the retractable logging blades that used to pop out from the front. When you're stuck in traffic and you're surrounded by forrest on either side of you, just cut down your own path. Let's see on of those wussie SUVs do that!
Tuesday at COMDEX, I saw an iMac running SuSE 6.4 and KDE. I was thoroughly impressed by it's speed. Those guys are doing good work. Now, if I could only find an iso image of SuSE 6.4 for the x86, I'd be set. They weren't allowed to bring in their stuff on account of Prez. Billy's little speech. The S.S. was all OVER that place and had it locked down before COMDEX even started that day.
Well, I can tell you that yesterday at COMDEX, I saw an Itanium chip running in a demo box. When I asked what kind of ram it was using, I was told that it was PC133. When I asked why it wasn't using RAMBUS, the guy stuttered and said that he wasn't allowed to comment on rambus. 'Nuff said.
Stephen Kings eBook was cracked (at least the PDF was) and made available across the net. The idea of the eBook is quite an interesting one. I personally own the Rocket eBook. The text quality is good...the backlight is bright...and very little eyestrain. And while NuvoMedia (the makers of Rocket) flat out told me that they didn't plan on making a Linux version of their Rocket Librarian, they did release the neccesary specs for "talking" to the Rocket. The OpenSource version is being worked on. Now, as far as buying eBooks, I flat out will not until prices drop to something resonable. I will give them credit for creating a HUGE online library where you can download copyright expired/free publications in the Rocket format. And with Project Gutenberg, you can download and convert books to Rocket format. While this piece of technology is cool and handy, I don't believe that it will truly replace a paperback. The eBook is a great tool for technicians that need manuals/referance without needing to carry a ton of manuals. Now, if only O'Reilly would release some of their works, I'd be happy. And to be honest, I don't like lending my books (ESPECIALLY my O'Reilly books) to anyone.
..while the previous 2 posts where AC's, I'll be more than happy to place my name on this one. I agree with the AC's about this subject..isnt' the idea to boycott DVD's with Region coding (which I'm MORE than sure SW:TPM would have) until those WHORES from the MPAA drop their stupid ass lawsuit? Either we stick with the boycott or we don't. Which is it? I for one am not about to give into the corporate bullying that the MPAA is trying to pull off. I've sworn off of buying any new DVD's and even if SW:TPM had been released on DVD, I wouldn't be buying it. Even though Lucas wrote, produced, financed, etc the ENTIRE project, he has become The Man, Inc. just like RIAA, MPAA and all the others are. Lucas needs to stop playing these BS games of his and make some REAL statements. I guess the $$ is just too much too resist. Kinda like Metallica. Sorry, my ethics aren't for sale. And neither should anyone else that supports OUR choice of OS. So CmdrTaco, which is it going to be? You have my email if you want to respond. Hell, you can even call me on the phone if you want.
I should have guessed...it's our favorite lurker, Billy G. from Micro$quish. How're you doing Bill? Y'know, I can understand why you think that we're all a bunch of Socialist Linux Zealots....I mean, if this were a real socialist society, you wouldn't have all that $$ coming outta your butt. But since when did you become a spokesperson for the Christian Coalition? You're still missing the point of the movie AND the fact that this is "science fiction." It's meant to be entertaining and thought provoking at the same time. But, that's something you'd like us NOT to do...think for ourselves. It takes the control out of your hands and squarely places it in our OWN hands. Listen, you need to just relax and take it as another frivolous piece of Hollywood entertainment kinda like "Last Temptation of Christ" was. Well, it's been swell chatting with you. Take it easy. Hugs and kisses to the wife & kid.:)
hmm..either you have never seen the orignal Planet Of The Apes (I can't speak for the sequels) or you just didn't get it. It is an anti-nuke movie...nothing in it indicated any "liberal, animal-loving socialist propaganda about the evils of capitalism in our economy". You're just pissed cause they didn't ask you to direct it.:)
From the sound of it, I'm sure they did a great job. Now, the real question is: When are we going to see a DEMO of the game? I'm not going to go and blow my $$ on a game that may potentially suck. Gamewise that is.
I prefer the book the way it is. I don't need to interact with it or have it be some screwed up MTV gameshow. I downloaded the King novella in Rocket eBook format (this thing kicks ass) and I have to say that I am glad I didn't pay for it. Not that I'm saying that it sucked but, I probably wouldn't have paid for it if required. I personally enjoy being able to download any of the TONS of free books from the Rocket Library straight to my eBook and reading it in bed, on the couch, etc just like any plain old book. I would love it if O'Reilly would release some of their books in this format. Just imagine having your favorite "Nutshell" book handy when you need it without the extra baggage. Yeah, those old world book formats sure are boring:P
True, but plain ASCII is easier to convert to whatever format you need. If you need it to be ACERTAINFORMAT.*, it is easier to go from the base ASCII. For example, I have converted several texts from PG to Rocket eBook format for downloading to my eBook. The eBook format is a subset of HTML 3.2 and it's easy to convert ASCII to.reb thanks to certain free utilities written by eBook owners. Hart's whole point was to make all the text available in a format that crosses all OS's.
I for one have never cared for the quality of the WMV format. It pales in comparision to QuickTime. Let's face it, Real and QuickTime are the 2 most used formats on the web. Now, if only Apple and what's-his-name would stop pointing fingers at each other saying "They are keeping us from porting QuickTime" we might actually see a QuickTime player that can actually PLAY stuff off the web. It's a shame these companies can't see beyond their bottom line. I'm not asking them to give up any patents or profits or whatever. It would just be great if they could stop all this wasteful squabbling and produce some quality software.
Is there something you'd like to tell us "Mr. Montoya"? How can the post you are referring to be proprietary? Confidential, I can see. Please feel free to express your comments here. We're always happy to listen.:)
I'm sure as HELL not going to trust any binaries from the government. If they want to release the source of said tools, then I'll look at it. Otherwise, I'm not going to just install something that in itself might be a governmentt "sactioned" trojan. Do they truly think we're that stupid?
Mandrake started out being based off of Redhat's distro. Basically, it was a cleaned up, supercharged version of RH. Have they now become their OWN distro? And if so, then why does v7 still include pleanty of RH specific software? Just curious.
...when are we going to see support for the Nvidia chipsets? I'm tired of playing with this Monster Fusion card. I'd like to see some TNT/TNT2 binaries sometime this decade. How about it Brandon?
While I'm still new to the LEGO Mindstorms field (just got it for Christmas) I have found that NQC is a really good for programming that lil "brick". So far, I've only been toying with the ones that come with the book. But, I'd certainly like to make a few fighting robots. I love to watch the pieces fly off;)
LOL! A supercolider and a mindstorms kit? What kind of monster are you planning on building? Or are you trying to make a replica of the Penguin Computing Tux that squashed Redmond?;)
The RIS is what I'm hoping to get for Christmas. I already have the O'Reilly book (yeah, I know I'm starting from the wrong end). Maybe one of the add-ons like the Extreme Creatures or the RoboSports, too:)
ROFL!! This is about the BEST y2k solution I have heard to date! Yknow, I hope NBC blows up on 01-01-00 just for even ALLOWING this piece of shit to be televised! Jesus, BUY A FUCKING CLUE you TV execs!! How about showing something useful like Planet Of The Apes...at least it sends a SMARTER message than this idiotic y2k panic that they are contributing to. Morons!
From your post I can see that you have never stood up for anything that mattered in your life. The AC post is a clear indication that you are afraid of any reprecussions. If they felt that GT was being unfair in any way or did not like what they were seeing, Epic could do whatever they felt like with UT. There are pleanty of ways around legal contracts. I know, I used to negotiate them. Now, while I appreciate Epic even MAKING the Linux executables, I would have to agree with several other posts above that this is another fine example of the Marketing Dept. having the final say in a product. As the saying goes "Marketing: 2 Drink Minimum". Now onto the "principles" thing. In the real world, you do have a choice. You can be a whore and take it up the ass like you obviously do, or you can uphold your principles and do what you feel is right. Maybe you enjoy enjoy being ass-fucked by the system, but I do not. If they wanted to, they could find a NUMBER of distributors in a heartbeat while dealing with any legal inconveniances. You are the six-year old here, sir. Or should I say "biatch"? I have survived pleanty in the real world and maintained my principles. Can you say the same?

ROFL!!! Finally! Old George is gonna release the movie the way it SHOULD have been! Is this considered the "Directors Cut"? ;)

What games are you guys planning on porting/releasing this year and are any of them from Westwood Studios i.e. the C&C titles?
