Please mod parent up. I am equally sick of Vista sales. I hope that there are more interesting things going on out there. Please stop this boring crap.
not just the language is what is attractive to the millions of developers. While the language is nice, the fantastic libraries that are included with the VM are what makes the big difference. Is it perfect? Far from it. No platform even comes close to the library support provided by the Java platform. With the new open source license, things will only get better. Thank you Sun.
Is this the Xbox 360 that can not sync your computer music to its harddrive for whatever bizzare reason? To listen to music on my 360, I have to turn on my computer (Laptop) in my family room. The user interface stinks and it does not play any of my iTunes stuff. No thank you.
So Dell, Wal Mart and HP are all conspiring with MS to kill Linux? Bull.
If there was a good demand, these vendors will jump on the bandwagon. These are some of the greediest companies known to man. They will jump at any opportunity to make a buck. The sad truth is that Linux on the desktop sucks (Go ahead flame me) and lacks a standard. Until gnome, kde stop bickering and I can reliabley cut and paste between my Linux apps, we will never have a viable alternative to Windows or the Johnny come lately Mac.
By going to the site, you can clear see that they are using cold fusion (cfm extension). Cold fusion is based on Java. They seem to be using IIS for some presentation (main page) but the heart of the system is clearly Java based if you read the links. GP was correct.
Maybe I was in the minority, but using Word on Windows was a better experience than using Wordperfect. The first WP windows port (Hidden Codes and such) was very poor.
You hit it on the head. I wush I had mod points. My next laptop will not be a Dell but an Apple MBP for the same exact reasons that you mentioned. One other strike against Dell is the pathetic support for their consumer unit.
The seamless integration between the iPod and iTunes are its biggest selling point. The hardware is cool but integration is what made members of my family buy the iPod. There are many people that use it as an mp3 player but the hundreds of millions of songs being sold on iTune attest to the formidable platform that Apple has put forth. I would like to hear more on what Zune will be connecting to for media.
Grow organically. Most takovers and and partnerships amongst large companies fail to realize their initial potential. MS should stop trying to shoe horn everything into the failed MSN model. Create a small team of talented people, give them some serious money and freedom and let them create. Do not impose Windows or MSN on them. Let them build the hardware, the software and the website. Do what apple does but with a much larger budget. I can use an IPOD without a Mac or having to go to apple.com (.mac).
Take two of the weirdest looking syntaxes and fuse them together. Life time employment.
For a second I thought you were talking about my Nokia E61.
C# and Friends are sure mopping the floor with Java. http://www.tiobe.com/tpci.htm
In the US, AT&T (Cingular) and T-Mobile are both GSM providers. Apple could have easily sold an unlocked phone to be used by those providers.
Long wait.

The .NET library contain two collection classes. One generic and the other non-generic.
System.Collections.Generic.List l = new System.Collections.Generic.List();
System.Collections.ArrayList l = new System.Collections.ArrayList();
Doesn't sound very elegant. At least in Java you have only one set.

missed the first couple of sentences.
Someone needs to come up with a serious contender to iTunes. Until that happens, no one will touch Apple in the new 'convergence' world.

Display write and a 3270 emulator.
get a photo of that cuban user switching from Windows. MSFT to $20.
While the phone is nice, the software is very slow and quirky. IMAP support is abysmal. I guess you can write slow software in any language.

In the hands of a techie or Joe Blow user?

Wouldn't that be considered incest?
