    I had cable for years even though there were other options because the content I wanted just wasn't there yet... now it's much better but if you need to sign up for a subscriptions on half a dozen sites then you may as well be paying for cable.

    I have netflix, prime, my dvd collection, and a bunch or free ad supported content like cbs and cwtv that I watch and no cable. I don't mind commercials on free content, I do however mind paying for cable and still having a boat load of commercials.

    I don't really care one way or the other but I would like to point out that if an immigrant isn't a criminal then they also must not be an illegal immigrant... just saying if the only criminal act you did was to come here by illegal means then your are still a criminal.

    How about win 3.X, 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP, vista, 7, 10.... you may have notice that win 8 was skipped; that was intentional because I've never been stuck supporting it.

  4. My brother pulled his ancient xp pro gaming rig out of the closet so he could set it up as a media server... he connected it to the network and it had a virus before he could back up the few photos he had on it.

    We killed the boot sector, partition tables, and completely re-formated the drive before we stuck a minimal linux on it...

    Cultural geographical differences... I image that the average US town is more like where I am a lot of places that sell wraps and very few that sell tobacco.

    A hookah on the other hand is probably harder to come by since I rarely see them, although we used to have a Turkish restaurant with hookahs where you could get a smoke after dinner.

    I would like to point out that there are a lot more places that sell wraps than places that sell tobacco you could put in them. The ratio in my town is about 11:1 granted that's not 100% although it is approaching statistically insignificant.

    My local radio shack was closed with the last bankruptcy and replace with a privately owned electronics store that mostly had only cell phones, tablets, and associated accessories. They are out of business as well.

    There is a privately owned computer electronics store that has computers, laptops, game consoles, games, other software, some TVs, DVD Bluray players, streaming devices, etc... and some of the nifty builder stuff that radio shack used to have though I think they make most of their money on the game consoles and games.

    Is it just me or does no one else remember lindows (linspire) desktops and laptops in Walmarts all over the US around 2004 or 2005.

    They don't make any sense because they only track artist signed to specific labels... You can have the #1 track on the cmj chart which is college radio and covers airplay for 200-ish college radio stations but still not be tracked for the billboard charts regardless of sales.

    TFA was about using a magnetic shield to protect against solar radiation and possibly raising the temperature enough over time to allow liquid water and make oxygen extraction easier... nothing magical.

    social media appear to be a more all inclusive activity like sleeping... although you cloud sleep with someone I wouldn't call that an interaction unless there wasn't any actual sleep going on.

    Spending more time doing anything leaves you with less time for doing other things... this is not a theory and TFA is vague.

    I've seen plenty of linux servers but I have never seen a linux desktop or laptop used in a business although. I have seen a linux thin clients that are used to connect to a windows xendesktop.

    It's not that I wouldn't know how to administrate a linux desktop it's that we have to communicate with clients, many of which use proprietary software that is just a pain to make work on anything but windows.

  14. I'm not a software engineer... however posing a problem and asking for possible solutions is exactly what an interviewer should be doing as apposed to asking for a specific implementation of one of many existing solutions which you may or may not be familiar with.

    Someone who works with me asked me not to tell anyone at work he is a contributor to a well known open source project even though the project has nothing to do with what we do as a company and his contributions are mostly for architectures we don't even use.

  16. I'm not a software engineer but I've had some rather poor interviewers. I've had interviews that didn't go past small talk and others that where technical tests long enough to make me think I was in college again. I've never done well on tests that ask obscure questions although tackling problems with no obvious solution is probably my favorite past time.

    if you asked me to show you how to sort something it would look like this since sort is already implemented in the standard libraries of most object oriented languages.

I really like my pi 3 and when you realize that the price is just the board without the power supply case, sd card, cables, case, etc... then you understand why can't build any project without spending more however I've been able to build multiple raspbian/retropie/osmc setups for friends under $100 and they love them. I will grant you that they rarely if ever use raspbian and though one of them copied their dvd collection to a usb hard drive and use osmc a lot mostly they just use retropie chalked full of retro game fun.

    There are plenty of tv shows available on youtube between my wife and tv shows and my son with game reviews, walk throughs, and video playlists he pops on to listen to but not watch I would say my household is close 6 hours for two people.

    A walmart near me just replaced 4 express check outs and 2 regular check outs with 8 more self check outs for a total of 16. I have no idea what factors are pushing the self check out in some areas but not others. We have a couple fast food places with order kiosks that I doubt will last but the self check out in walmart and the local grocery are always packed along with the unattended gas station {not legal in all states}.

    cashiers... there are self check outs all over with one 1 cashier monitoring 6-10 check out lanes, you don't need to go into the gas station any more you just swipe your card at the pump, and ATMs are all over the place as well. My town has gone from two video rental stores to a dozen redboxes.

  22. I just keep waiting, arm processors are eventually going to replace x86 probably in every consumer device except hardcore gamer equipment with in the next 3-5 years. There are supposed to be windows arm devices coming out later this year with the snapdragon 835 and x86 32bit emulation.

    After my job was outsources the company I work for now tracked me down based on the recommendation of a previous co-worker, I've been with them for over 15 years and from 125 to 110k+ employees. The really good people are ones that you will rarely have an opportunity to hire.

  25. There are some famous vineyards in Switzerland which is not on a coast, although you are correct most of the more famous vineyards are on the coast in Tuscany and France.

    I can't tell you if they are fermented grape juice I don't drink but I know they are kind of expensive you can easily drop a grand at a tasting.
