Do you code? If not then how do you hack anything? You just load ROMs. So you're a modder. Now you may love the lifestyle, but in my not so humble opinion if you don't write code you really can only "hack" mechanical things because you can't alter the software of anything controlled by code. You can get other people to write it for you and run it. But does that really meet the definition? If so then I'm a mechanic. If that's the bar then half the world can be listed as hackers for jail breaking their phone. No sir you are a scenester. Which is okay I guess If you just want to look like you're a bad ass. Like those guys with all the Celtic tattoos on 50k "motorcycles". It's okay I guess. But it ain't no 1%er.

Glenn Beck and Fox News are basically Libertarians and the following they have within that group is crossing over to the GOP. You can see this in the Tea Party movement. Some GOP members have caught onto this movement and hijacked it for their own purposes. So there's a rift between a few groups - True Libertarians, just fiscal conservatives, and "moral" conservatives. So we see them all pulling in different directions and we see labels such as "RINO", Republican In Name Only, being tossed about.

It's a hell of a shake up but ultimately I think the fiscal conservatives, but more middle of the road Republicans, will win out. Big Business runs America and social issues are a distraction for them.

I'm actually a registered GOP member and I'm a bit embarrassed by my party. I would like a return to the Goldwater doctrine for the GOP, where we are fiscally conservative yet still carry the big military stick.

We're not all freaks like Beck and followers. Just because I want a better fiscal policy for my country doesn't mean I'm some paranoid bible thumping freak hiding in a shack in the woods working on my manifesto.

  11. Very green thinking on IT Turf Wars: the Most Common Feuds In Tech · · Score: 1

It's very green to think that the most important thing to focus on at work is technology or process choices. It's more important to build meaningful bonds with other teams than any other skill set. That's why IT goes to bat for me when I need them to. Because I work with them, not against them. If they say things need to be a certain way, I may question why and protest civilly if it's not legit, but I follow their rules. It's their playground I need to run my code. They need my code to keep their playground. It's in our best interest to work together. So put aside the silly topics that split you and focus on why you are truly there, to make a good living doing what you love.

I know that sounds a little wistful. But after many years of this industry, I can honestly say there are some things more important than what tool set you use. I'm in demand because I can code well and I'm a good teammate. Those two things are both equally important.

If you like them you may also want to checkout many of the other microcontrollers in a Digikey or Mouser catalog. I collect them myself. Everything from PIC to Atmel-based, to Zigbee. They're all quite fun.

The main advantage of the Arduino is it's open source design. The other controllers are not as customizable _before_ production. With arduino you can add things if you need them on board.

If we really cared how people lived we would teach them strategy and managing risk at a very young age.
