    Another option is limited proxying. If you proxy a small but significant percentage of your traffic, you can't tell who was requesting the content and who was just being an unwitting proxy. It makes mass lawsuits unfeasable.

    There are 2 weaknesses in this reasoning.
    1. A organisation with lot's of cash can always sue. Winning is another part(proving you didi wrong), but lot's of cases are settled just because defending is to costly and suerly not fun.
    2. You can still loose. Proxying can make you an accomplice. Even worse it can make you an accomplice to even worse things you might not like at all (terrorist/child porn/extremist idea's).

    This shows why file sharing should not be too illegal since this will push the file sharing underground.

    This still does not answer any of the 3 questions in the article.


    A) Are the logs of Lokitorrent.com in the hands of the MPAA?
    B) Where is the money that was donated to the legal fund?
    C) Can P2P'rs who uploaded / downloaded torrents be tracked down via the logs.


    So there is still a next chapter. Specially the B question is interresting since it was al going so quickly.

Because sometimes the laws in europe try to follow the laws in the other parts of the world. Just look at the DCMA and recent discussions of patent law.

    If there was a list of programs that was tested... 99% of all software that works on windows xp sp1 is NOT on the list. that does not mean 99% of all software will work on sp2. I have seen many, many examples of software that needs thinkering.

    Baiscally thay say:

    "Using mame's rom is wrong."

    However they fail to explain why getting a trademark on mame will fix this. Are they going to use a trademark of a product they did not create to fight illegal goods? That would be wrong use of the trademark anyway. I bet ebay accepts this anyway.

    You forget that a mushroom cloud with all it's heat and thunder is a very appealing image for a terrorist. They don't care about contries, their only faith is to allah.

    The problems with an anology....

    If you want to see which car is safer than another, you would do things like controlled crash tests

    a better anology for a controlled crash is a honeypots in computer technology. Counting vulnerabilties/patches is counting the number of callbacks an automobile maker does.

    I hoped for a deeper analysis, like the security model used or how it behaves in networks. But it just back to counting vulnerabilities.

    On the other hand some windows 98 application fail to run on windows 98 because the right version of internet explorer is not installed. (same story on winnt4 and windows 2000). I cannot tell you abou wndows XP because i do not agree with the licencing.
