It's not only the link that gets encrypted. The data comes of the net/a dvd encrypted, goes to your video card encrypted, and is sent to your monitor encrypted. Your monitor then decrypts it. (in hardware)
Printscreen? Not likely. The data in your video card's ram is encrypted. This is send (digitally) to the monitor. The monitor then decrypts it in hardware....
AFAIK the major filters don't filter images. So why would the images have to be modified? The goal here is to get the site through the filter, not to make it unoffensive for everyone.
While there are certainly plenty o' valid points in the article, I doubt most of us will want the changes that are talked about. Yes, a few things could be changed to be more user friendly. However, there are lots of things with steep learning curves I for one would like to keep that way, because it keeps the functionality optimal.
Luckily, open source is a democracy/merritocracy. Those who code, decide where it goes. So as long as enough people agree with me, I think I'll be happy (Of course, having powerfull tools does not rule out having easy tools).
It's all choices. Even if you don't have x86, practicly everyone is capable of saving up money/robbing a bank/whatever to get one. However, for instanace the robbing a bank scenario is to risky for most of us, and goes against our moral judgement. Idem with using windows.
Yes, I certainly prefer a more closed society. I'll pick my friends by who I like thank you, not by who happens to live next door. These 'open' societies you're talking about are the ones that most of the time make it impossible for people to be different, or have an opinion/sexual orientation/whatever that the others don't like.
Nope, sadly IE is superior. But I still use netscape when I work under windows, because I am opposed to the way it is 'marketed' (read: forced down your throat). Yes, you could call this similar to the companies that 'block' linux, with one difference: Those companies are trying to make profit, so it is stupid for them to `block' out clients. I on the other hand, have no such agenda, I'm just trying really hard to change the world into a imho better place... Anyway, the file is useless to you if you don't have a *nix installed, and if you have a *nix installed you have wget.
Is there anything wrong/funny about that? It is a much used rationalisation for the term daemon, though afaik the original reason for choosing the name is that it lurks, with the perpetrator of an act not knowing it is there. (ie, I drop something in the print spool, the daemon does its thing with it).
Yup, it's like.Xdefaults. You could put the settings in.Xdefaults too, but this is the systemwide default. I've put up my (slightly modified) app-defaults/Netscape file here. It's pretty much self-explanatory.
It's not only removing the if (DEBUG) { } parts (Yes, I know about #ifdef, that's not the point), but also optimizing lots of functions. However, optimized they are very difficult to debug. Optimization is a lot of work, and it's senseless to waste time on it if a lot of things are going to be changed anyway.
>The problem with mailinglists is that you can't post as the anonymous coward.
Why not? Just set the From: header to Anonymous Coward, or if you must, use an anonymous remailer.
Heinlein said "What do you want from me? I'm just a Monkey."???
Gosh, you learn someting every day.
I think getting content providers to use it won't be the problem. But I sure as hell ain't buying one!
Isn't the goal of a good hash function to prevent anyone creating collisions? (Yes, I know, md5 has some weaknesses).
Canard: a false or unfounded report or story
Really? I always thought that canard was french for duck... Oh well...

This if from THE department, with a capital THE.
make uninstall usually works.
And issueing a 'locate app-name' usually spits out all other leftovers.

Or maybe you ment the Country of the Nethererlands, which has a state called Holland?
Actually, holland is a name for a region in the netherlands. It consists of two provinces, noord holland and zuid holland.
PS, while you can be forgiven for not knowing where Holland Michigan is, mistaking Holland for the Netherlands is unexcusable, even if it is common.
I'd hardly call it unexcusable. I live there and I use both.

Ok, break out the nukes. Let's bomb that little island into oblivion.
I would. That joke is so old, it has a beard twice the length of the distance earth-sun. Please don't make me look at it any more.
:-)

Hmmm, for some reason /. posted that message as AC there, so I'll repeat:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults/Netscape
In netscape, you can have hjkl motion keys, in case you didn't know:
have a look at

A work around would be to enable caching of course...
It's possible with netscape: have a look at muttzilla.
I agree with most, but ipv6 is absolutely not necessary for the first release... Still, it would be nice to have.
I thought w2k wasn't going to have service packs?
