  5. There was an employee in our organization who spent 80% of his and his teams effort working on projects that did not address the bottom line. The employee cut "drug deals" and over promised under delivered my entire time in the organization. In the the "Snake Oil Salesman" was run out of town on the rail.

    Social media has more negative impacts than positive. Following, liking, and posting begins to replace phone calls and visits from friends and family. The charged atmosphere of political posts creates wedges and animosity. Friends, and unfortunately family, start using social media to "aire grievances" and stab people in the back. The result of all of this is a lot of conflict and relationships that are in ruin.

    The State Department should lodge a formal complaint at the Indian embassy to call for action. The governmanet in India should take steps to rid the Internet of these criminals.

    Atari 400 computer with a membrane keyboard and cassette tape to load programs. Parents added a disk drive and printer. Eventually upgraded to an Atari 800, then 800 XL with two disk drives.

    There needs to be more security in IoT products. Glad that awareness is being raised by a harmless ad that raises the issue of security.

    I recently saw multiple polic cars driving through the neighborhood. They had a large speaker on the cruiser and the office was saying "Hey Google" followed by a shortened URL.

    I see your point on Sony but not the Burger King ad. The ad resulted in opening a Wikipedia web-page.

    Google has no issue with ads - as long as they are the ones making money off of them.

    In the United Kingdom taxes go to cover National Health Service. In the United States health care is provided by paying premiums. The study should either 1) remove the portion of tax in the U.K. that covers NHS, or 2) increase the amount paid in taxes plus premiums to allow an apples to apples comparison.

  18. The leaders in organizations have the responsibility of hiring and succession planning for the organization. Leaders tend to see themselves in up and coming protégés and they will select these individuals to groom as future leaders to take over the organization. A healthy organization will invest in training for leaders and have hiring boards to encourage diversity of experience, temperament, etc.

    The grammar police need to chill. Constant word smithing to correct insignificant grammar issues takes away from meaningful ideas and suggestions.

    I thought that web browsers checked the chain of then certificate back to the issuing root? Would a break in a chain result in a broken "lock" in the browser?

    Digital certificates are also used for authentication and identification of a participant in the communication.

  22. The point of the certificates is to provide a means to establish confidentiality, integrity, and identification of the server hosting information. Issuing fraudulent certificates undermines the security and leads to fraud.

  23. Public key infrastructure is dependent upon a system of trust. Those who issue signed certificates can either strengthen or weaken trust in the overall system. Those issuing certificates bear responsibility to maintain trust in the overall system.

    Many engineers who design bridges, roads, buildings, power systems, etc. are required to get a proefessional engineering certificate. There is no equivalent for computer scientist in the United States. Until there is liability for poor designs and implementation there will be changes to improve quality and security.
