WhenI saw that headline my first thought was that the "editor" deliberately said "lasted more than a year" in order to intentionally rile up the locals and generate more interest in the story. IE Making it more "click bait-y" without looking like you are making it "click bait-y".
For the same price of these digital rentals, you can buy a used physical copy within a week of release, and guess what? You can lend or resell it later!
It's called "Convenience". Lets compare the two solutions:
Buy Physical movie: 1. Decide on what you want to watch 2. Locate store/person who has said physical copy 3. Travel to that location or have it sent to you. 4. Rip said movie and copy to your device 5. Store physical copy in safe place 6. Advertise movie for sale 7. Deal with public who wants to:
a. Beat you down on price
b. Burden you with weird shipping requirements
c. Make an enquiry and then go silent. 8. Package the movie for shipping 9. Send the movie off or take time to meet the person in some neutral location.
Rent movie: 1. Decide what you want to watch 2. Click on icon and download movie.
Now the big question is: How much is your time worth to complete steps 3 to 9 of buying and selling the movie? If the cost of those steps is much greater than then rental cost of the same movie then you really need to rethink your lifestyle choices. Especially if you only ever plan on watching a movie once.
Note that renting the movie can be done instantly anywhere in the world that there is a decent internet connection, and you do not have to pre-plan your viewing decisions.

VidAngel filters their movies because they want to claim to be a family friendly business.
I was at lunch with some colleagues of mine last week and they were extolling the virtues of VidAngel. But I almost cracked up when one of mentioned that he had been holding off from watching Game Of Thrones because of the language, but now with this great service from VidAngel he can watch a family friendly version! I was imagining GoT sort of like the (apocryphal) South Korean version of the Sound of Music that cut out all the songs.

Slightly off topic, but there was a story on NPR this week about brokered conventions. They said that there had been 10 of these in the past, and in 7 of those occurrences the front runner was not chosen as the presidential candidate.
It is a bad idea - which is why the petition is a good idea. It forces the candidates to go against their own rhetoric about second amendment rights and publicly admit that the government does have the power to dictate when and where you are permitted to carry a gun.
You seem to have this naive idea that politicians are capable of suffering from cognitive dissonance. Unfortunately it has been proven many times in the past that that is not the case on either side of the aisle..

Someone who owns less than 2% of the company is drawing massive attention towards something that will keep the leadership from doing what the company needs long term.
And they are doing it by going around to people who control larger blocks and convincing them that something needs to be done.
Obviously the arguments they are using are resonating with the people who own the larger blocks.
I don't understand why they didn't add $150 to the price tag and include a heat source powered by an Audrino or other micro controller..
It looks like from their time line that they are doing exactly this in 12 months time. The photopolymers and the print mechanism are the novel parts with the greatest risk, so why waste time and money putting together a dedicated screen right now, when you can put it off for 12 months and either the company has crashed and burned.. so no need. Or now you have a market that wants more. I think its a great strategy and shows that they are thinking how to scale their business and still mitigate risk.
