    What's Discovery even like; I completely lost interest in the whole franchise after the "re-imagined' of Wrath of Khan.

    The whole "pay for the streaming service to just watch one program" thing kinda of stopped me*.

    *That plus I thought the show sucked anyway. Between watching the first episode of that and also of The Orville .. I could see more potential in the latter.

    And if Siemens is used, they'll use Profibus, which is RS-485 based or Profinet, which is ethernet based.

    STRP
    SSI

    And probably a few more that I have missed. And I have used Profibus in the past.

    Hardwired does provide improved security, but if done correctly wireless can be almost as secure.

    That depends on how you define secure. With one powerful transmitter you can execute DOS attack on a wireless network fairly easily.

    Shit! We better get right on ripping RS-485 out of oil refineries, chemical plants, and other hazardous industries around the world then!

    Facetousness asside, if we can happily run RS-485 at speed with many multi-drop components along several hundred meters running under HV power lines, I think our Internet of Shit devices will be just fine.

    While raw RS-485 is fine, many of the container port cranes I am involved in building actually run CANbus for particular I/O runs.

    NASA had to learn the hard way so far as safety goes, and they're not motivated by profit like a private corporation is, so I'm perfectly okay with them keeping everyone on a short leash until they prove they can be at least as safe as NASA operations.

    What if your left thumb unlocked your phone and your right thumb wiped the device invisibly? The criminal could never know, you deniability and the police will be too scared to tap your dead finger to the phone.

    Or what if left-right-left unlocked and left-right-right wiped?

    Given that Apple is moving to Face ID for phone unlocking I don't see any changes based on finger prints happening. Plus the possibility of accidentally wiping a phone would have Apple really nervous about lawsuits.

    Donald Trump is incapable of de-coupling his ego from his personality when it comes to his duty as President of the United States.

    I basically said this on another forum a long time ago. My evidence at the time (which is still basically true) was that he initially posts stuff on *his* twitter account and then re-tweets on the POTUS account. Thus, in my opinion, he thinks of himself first and as POTUS second.

    As a tidewater native, I'm really exited to see this quality of research coming out of Jefferson Lab. It's a great asset to the area.

    If only they could turn their expertise to solving pressure waves on I-64
