I don't really know anything about (semi-)professional photography, but I always assumed objectives from different manufacturers were compatible. Can't you use your old glass with the new, different camera?
Camera manufacturers lock you in with proprietary hardware interfaces, so in general you can't mix and match between different companies. They also try and keep backwards compatibility within their own brand and Nikon supposedly has one of the best backward compatibility with its lenses of the major 35mm camera manufacturers.
I am going to have replace my camera kit in the next year. MS has shown that it is never happy with just part of the pie, or letting other people have a pie without the approval of MS. Once the claws get in, they never let go.
So even though I have been a Nikon fan for many years, I am afraid my next camera will a Canon.
Given that the value of a good camera kit is more in the glass than anything, that's a hell of an investment you will have to be replacing (*). And what will you do when Canon decides that it is going to jump onto the Android bandwagon in order to feature comparable with the Nikon cameras? Will you do what someone suggested above and move to a Holga?
* A friend once told me a long time ago - never sell a lens that you like.
Its not emission-less. If you read his presentation from 2008 you'll see that the C02 is the byproduct of the reaction that is is used to transfer heat to the steam boiler. The C02 still gets generated as before, just now it can be more readily sequestered - assuming that you want to spend the money on that part of the equation.
...and with the macbook pros starting at $1500, they're still more expensive.
The low end MacBook Pro ($1499) has better specs that the low end Chromebook ($1299) - 128GB vs 32GB. The high end Chromebook ($1450) comes with 64GB.. and is only $50 cheaper that the low end MacBook
What is the compelling user experience that would be enabled by 3D?
And what do you really mean by 3D? Do you mean projections onto a 2D surface of a 3D model? Or do you mean something like the spinning displays that render voxels that you can actually walk around? Because a genuine, cheap, ubiquitous 3D display would open up all sorts of possibilities.
A gasoline-burning car is probably less polluting than a coal-burning electrical plant.
There are huge advantages in economies of scale when centralizing pollution controls. For example each gasoline powered currently car has to carry around a certain mass of equipment in order to comply with current pollution standards. Removing that mass from a moving vehicle and putting it in a fixed location gives you an instant efficiency gain as you no longer have to waste energy carting it around with you.
In addition, centralizing the power distribution of cars to current power stations allows you to flip over to a different primary source sometime in the future, without upsetting the consumption side. So while it may use fossil fuels now, that doesn't mean it still has to 10 years down the track. Think of it as refactoring the hardware to aid in future system changes.
I bought an Office for Mac 3-pack for about $125. That's not exactly the same as $150 each. I'm not a Microsoft fan but I do try to stay credible when possible.
Its only fair to have Goofy numbers when its a Mickey Mouse article.
IANAT but from my systems engineering point of view when you say:
For starters, the OP makes a good point: How hard is it to keep track of a syllabus?
I think.. well OK.. keeping track of 1 piece of paper is no problem, but I bet that there is more than one syllabus to keep track of, in fact probably lots of them. And in an non IT environment those bits of paper are stored all over the place, and the teachers need to keep track of where they keep their syllabi.. but wait a minute.. if we define a standard location to store the syllabi of one teacher, then that solution (by the magic of computers) can be extended ver easily to all teachers.. and all students.. and everyone can see everything.
All of a sudden the whole question of "where did I put/where do I store my syllabus?" becomes a solved problem for everyone involved.. and they can all get on with the task of teaching being taught without having to worry about that issue.. ever again.
The relay device wasn't put online until December 21. Between then and the Super Bowl, the device functioned properly during three major events -- the New Orleans Bowl, a Saints-Panthers NFL game, and the Sugar Bowl -- Entergy said.
If the device tripped out because the load it saw exceeded its settings, then I'd say that the device was functioning perfectly fine at the Superbowl.
Now were those setting suitable for Beyonce's half time show? That would be the question to ask.

Don't forget to ask for a Pony as well!

The best way to not be killed by a drone strike when you are a member of al-Qaeda is to NOT be a member of al-Qaeda.
Sooooo ....
The first rule of Al-Quaeda is don't talk about Al-Quaeda
That sounds familiar.
The Prepper community in the US taking tips from Al-Quaeda or maybe even exchanging information.
Why are these two unrelated topics in a single post?
Conflation .. the new tabloid journalism of the 21st century .. and the 20th, and probably the 19th, 18th, 17th etc.

Coal Direct Chemical Looping Retrofit for Pulverized Coal-fired Power Plants with In-Situ CO2 Capture (PDF - but why the hell in this day and age do I need t tell you that? Can't you just look at the link?)
You mean just the BSA?
Why are the Boy Scouts interested in this anyway?
Because sharing things is so gay .. and we can't have our little preciouses exposed to gay things .. it might .. you know .. convert them.

Similar form factor and specs to a Mac Book Pro .. and guess what .. similar price. Take that you Apple Apologists .. um .. err .. [Facepalm]
This petition is for cheapskates who want to buy subsidized phones, but not fulfill their contract.
There are already mechanisms to penalize people who do not fulfill contracts. So not unlocking a cell phone for that reason is unnecessary.
And yet the amount of money still pales in comparison to what pro athletes make.
The question should be ..
What is the compelling user experience that would be enabled by 3D?

but this blacking out drunk, acting obnoxious, and waking up with a hangover I just don't get.
You do know that not everyone who drinks behaves like that, just like not everyone who eats becomes obese.
Perhaps you need to get out of your mom's basement once in a while?
Didn't we just have a "Magic Numbers" article yesterday about how much OO is worth?
Think of the planet .. recycle the comments from the previous article:
OpenOffice: Worth $21 Million Per Day, If It Were Microsoft Office

Perhaps the answer is to use a cork to stop them going until they're in the right place.
I vaguely remember that this has already been tried. I can't quite remember the details but I'm sure that the research involved monkeys and elephants.
Not so totally unrelated to the article, the meteor strike wasn't too far from one of the biggest nuclear facilities in the Russian Federation.
Mayak

I am sure you know that rfc is a april fools joke. Maybe the moderators don't.
Yeah I know.. but it seems the joke's on me as the moderators obviously didn't read past the first page.
In other words there should be a "copyright" field in the metadata, so there is no doubt about it.
Ah .. so they finally want to implement the (almost) ten year old RFC 3514 IPv4 header!

.. fine, because now I use SumatraPDF, small fast no nagware no nagdates .. I feel great!
I use a Mac and I have been smugly without Adobe PDF software every since I got it 5 years ago.
