why not use a real browser then? nobody is going to have time to develop the technology to work for every browser on god's earth. get with the program and download IE. its free ya know.
From the quotes from Borlands' CEO, it sounds like he's more than interested in being bought out by MS. What better of a deal he could he get? he gets to jump a sinking ship, get a hefty bonus for making the sale, and live on easy street.
1. Build a company 2. Sell it to Microsoft 3. ??? 4. PROFIT!
to convince the editors at slashdot/kuro5hin/etc to stop posting this as news, with the hope that a lack of press will eventually kill this off. it seems that every time this issue is brought back to life via the media, RMS grows more bull-headed in his "quest". we ALL know that this is nothing more than silliness to the rest of the world. its like an annoying little child who only wants his picture of a three legged cat posted on the family refrigerator. we have to realize that the little child (RMS) isn't going to go away, and just let his grumblings go to/dev/null

What Jon fails to recognize in his ramblines is that Utah has passed a law that explicitly targets the media in missing persons cases involving children. Wisconsin does not have the turn around that Utah has implemented in getting pictures of missing children out as fast as possible to enhance the possibility of finding these children. When this tactic proves to be a successful approach to finding these missing children, you are going to see more and more states taking this strategy. It wasn't CNN's choice not to air news about the Pattersons, its the people co-ordinating the search effort not including the media so intricately in their recovery strategy as closely as the Smarts.
How can the submitter make any claim to its solidity as a product when they've never used it? to be honest, it sounds like a cool product, but how well it works can't be interpreted from FUD.
if you're so worried about your bandwidth, then why did you click through and post? you could've deduced from the front page that this would have taken 100K or so to download all 250+ comments. Sorry, I'm probably adding.0002 cents to your bandwidth problem. maybe you should stop surfing slashdot, save your money and buy a plane ticket out of Bora Bora and hook up a fat T-1 to your door.
Ralph Nader already has his moment at the top of the world. His clout has long been exhausted and now he only sits on the top of the sun, melting away like Frosty the Snowman.
goodness gracious... you go try and write an IETF document complete with UML... blech! its horrible. Use the best tools that are most widely adopted. PDF, PowerPoint, Word.DOC. Just because you're a cheap-ass doesn't mean everybody else has to stoop to the lowest common denominator. I'm not saying throw your money to M$, but rather, find a suitable alternative that can carry over to that format (maybe Corel-Office, Star-Office). their support is increasing day by day, and with more adoption/users they might find the economic incentive to perfect the compatibility.
If this story was only posted four months earlier CmdrTaco could have been even more 'romantic' and asked Kathleen to marry him via LED. It's almost as nostalgic as those blinking office lights in Germany.
the relative ease to which you can now transfer content between people. Sure, you could make VHS copies of movies in your basement, but you were still limited to physical distribution. Now that distribution is effectively uncapped, the MPAA and RIAA realize their nest eggs are being poached. The biggest problem with all of this is the lack of concern of the RIAA/MPAA towards their customers. Sure, you will always have a few people hacking and stealing content, but if the movie/music industry realized that the standard of economy is based on the supply/demand chain, they would realize a better way to combat this 'theft'.
I, myself, am an avid DVD-collector, and have quite a repository built. I have no qualms with paying good money to buy a good movie. But what I do expect is for the MPAA to be competitive. Since there are no other options THAN the MPAA, we are all held up to paying 20-35$ for a DVD, which in all reality may only be worth 15-20$. What the MPAA must realize is that their competition is now the free route, and the only way to combat this is to a) lower prices b) provide extras to create a competitive advantage
I'd surely shell out 14 bucks to watch AoTC on a big screen over having to watch a pirated version that shakes like a hyperactive child sucking on a lollipop. Sure, there will be the cheapskates that will watch it for free, but those were never really customers of the MPAA anyway. The MPAA needs to get back to the business of making movies, and distributing the "extras" that make it worthwhile buying.
It's amazing how many people can't be bothered to read 3 paragraph article before spouting off a complete load of shit about it.
Did you not READ the number of posts on here? It seems that most people are AGREEING with Stallman. It's even more amazing how people can't be bothered to read the posts before spouting off a flame war.
I think a better strategy is that deverlopers claim their "royalties" on a per-seat basis from UnitedLinux. Maybe when they realize it'll cost them $x per seat and they were only going to charge $x, they'll realize its stupid.
You could have a StrongArm 333 Mhz chip! For just $19,995 you and a loved one can fly to the north pole and run your PDA at blazingly fast speeds! Play solitaire like you've never experienced before. (or, if you have TWO iPaqs, PocketQuake)

as funny as this sounds, I wouldn't put it past microsoft. although it would be a bastardized version of pascal that works with the .NET framework.

I wish I had mod points to mod this up. This is the funniest and most original Katz poke I've seen in a long time.
Conversely, how would you try to fit in a tampax ad? blech, I don't even want to think about it...
I thought Tuesdays were "screw the MPAA" day and Thursdays were "Oooh, Newline just released the LOTR Behind the Scenes DVD" party.
