    Looks like PNY have made a PCI version of this card. Before you l33t gam3r start laughing that it's PCI, a number of us have server-type or older motherboards that don't have AGP slots. The lowest price on Pricewatch I found for it was $139, so it's quite a bit more than the AGP version.

    I think most smaller ISPs don't really care if you're using NAT. In fact, I bet lots of ISPs expect you to. Your best bet is to read the terms before signing up and stay away from the AOL/Earthlink conglomerate types.

    I heard a bit about the generation ATI card. Besides using a 90nm process, the beast will pack over 110 million transistors. One engineer described it as a small number of blocks (9 or so if I remember right), but they're the biggest friggin blocks you've ever seen.

    Design patents aren't that big of a deal. If I designed a toaster, I'd get a design patent on *my* toaster so nobody else can call it their own. And no, I can't collect royalties or sue everyone that makes toast. It's different from a trademark, but IANAL so I'm not sure of the differences.

    Ever see those infomercials where they start off with "our new, innovative, *patented* design..." Well, odds are they've got a design patent.

    I've had a DSL line with nwlink for the past 4 years. I've *never* had any significant problems with them. I even mentioned I was using a linux box to NAT some internal machines to one of their service reps, he couldn't care less. My net connection has been great, I ssh to home from work for 8 hours a day to keep tabs on email.

    Two years ago they had a food drive where customers bringing in a couple cans of food got a discounted rate for a month. Kinda neat, you don't see too many companies doing that type of thing.
