I'm pretty sure "Dave" would have still been upset even if the explanations were handled properly. No amount of explanations could actually erase his grievances. He would probably still have got angry and rude in his response.
I'm not here to defend Mr. Christoforo. He was dismissive and unprofessional in all of his emails, but "Dave" was the first to resort to "SHOUTING", swearing and personal insults.
If Mr. Christoforo had better people skills and greater professionalism he would have shrugged this off, but even so it makes one thing abundantly clear to me.
There is no 'good guy' in this story; there are only 'bad guy' and 'worse guy'.
There's no indication in the summary that he's actually taken the application live on company hardware. As far as I can tell, it's a secret project that nobody really knows about other than him. The management at work might wish for him to come up with something like this, but they probably have no idea that he already did.
My instinct says far more than just a hundred for a good quality book. I'm well aware of how they can be repaired, not to mention that while they might get a bit tatty with wear they will still be readable.
My laptop is an inexpensive Acer. It has HDMI out. My last laptop was a Fujitsu-Siemens and it had DVI out. Admittedly the netbooks I've seen in that same timeframe had VGA only, but a lot of laptops have digital video out.
Only two? I suppose the virus infection I found on some of my Atari ST disks once upon a time was just a hoax perpetrated on me by the manfacturer of virus-scanning software?
Is it perhaps possible that "public" university means one of those insitutions which do NOT charge a fortune in tuition and instead offer a relatively low-cost alternative based on 'public' funding? I'm not an American so my knowledge is limited. Of course I'm also not sure if the GP is an American either, or if an American university is the one under discussion.
These allegations are ridiculous. I've inquired at my local iPatent Store and the nice Genius there assured me that the stores were still completely independant and that the rebranding would not affect their work in any substantial way.
4GB is 'no ram' to you? Until a few months ago I was running with 2GB on my desktop. Now I have 4GB and the performance increase is notable, but I feel no need for further improvements at this time.
I run Windows BTW.
If I'm reading the comment right it has absolutely nothing to do with perceived moral rectitude. It has to do with being in the uncomfortable position at the muzzle end of a gun.
That post was a statement, not a question. The subject line was inherited. You'll need to look further up the thread to find the post to which yours is admittedly a completely valid reply.
RMVB files are pretty much everywhere in China. Not so much anywhere else in the world but they do have the slight advantage of being tiny when compared with an XviD of similar quality, length and resolution.
One of the older Pokemon games had exactly this. The newer ones have a text journal of the places you visited and the notable things you did, that helps too.
Outside of Pokemon, I remember that Tales of Symphonia for the Nintendo GameCube had a section in the menu which featured text summaries of everything you had done in the game so far. More than enough to jog the memory. New pages were added constantly as you cleared story events and quests.
I always did wonder why there wasn't more of that.
He stated that it was his opinion that it was "high time we became a contributor". He did not state that "we became a contributor", merely his opinon that "we should".
No doubt this opinion informed his choice to contribute his work. Since he later claims that the work is entirely his own, no other conclusions are supported.
Working "night and day" does not mean 'all of the...' does it? I don't think it excludes the possibility that there were times when he was free to work for himmself. If I work one hour in daylight and one in darkness I have worked "night and day"
I'm not under the impression from anything I've read that this was/is a company project. In fact the author's replies to comments on the article suggest it was not.
I was refuting a specific claim. This is a separate claim which I do not dispute. Since the facts relevant to this point are not available to us, I cannot form a proper opinion.
The version licensed under the GPL will remain licensed under the GPL. If the owner of the code wants to license it separately under a commercial license and then continue to develop only the commercial version, that's permitted AFAIK.
No he doesn't - this is the second comment stating the same obvious untruth. It's impossible to read the article and come up with that interpretation, really.
Ulterior motives?
It actually doesn't say that. It says "it was high time we became a contributor!", was that the phrase you're referring to? That's a lot less clear than you're suggesting.
It also doesn't say he worked night and day on the project, it said he worked night and day for the company.
I don't want to assume bad faith, but... you've come up with a fairly loose interpretation of the text as written.
I can understand you not knowing the specifics from the article, but I cannot understand why you would directly contradict the article with such assurance.
He did NOT write using company time OR within the company offices. Nor is it apparent that he used any company machine or software assets.
If you read the link, you'll see that none of the code was written inside the company. It was written outside of work hours. I know some companies make extraordinary claims in this regard, but it does at least provide a better starting point than the position you suggest.

Did they read anything else other than Harry Potter?
Don't attend a required class? Fail your course of study. Problem solved.

That shoud say "I run Window 7 BTW".

The Christian faith doesn't "rule" America, last I heard.

That something is common does not exclude the possibility that it may also be absurd.
