As a fellow Canadian, I'm interested in this move. Our LUG had a presentation on Linux Telephony, VOIP and such a month or two ago. If you're interested, grab the .
The problem as I see it, I think Telus has figured out a way to charge for Long Distance with VoIP that THEY implement. I'd be weary of it myself. But who knows, Telus could surprise me, but I doubt it.
Dang it all anyway! Used to be able to read the articles by changing www in the url to archive or archives (I forget which, but tried them both). They don't let you do that anymore;-(
I know slashdotters have a userid and password for this site, but I can't seem to find the old post that mentioned it anywhere. Someone care to post it again? I thought it was slashdot and hacker or something like that.
Speaking of not knowing what you're talking about, you just said a mouthful. You forget, that in the Matrix, they explained that the Humans "scortched the sky" to stop the machines from using Solar power. In an effort to continue to enslave human kind, the machines came up with the idea of using humans as a battery. They can't use anything else, because they want to keep humans at bay and also, there are no cows in this world, they DIED OFF!
Now that said, your point about using human brain power to compensate in some way for what the AI can't do makes sense. It might be that the machines are using human brain power to DRIVE/CREATE the matrix in it's entirety!
with the DRM built into.aac, I'm curious how these downloaded files work with the iPod? from some comments on the tidbits-talk mailing list on the DRM in AAC, it seems that you have to enter your Apple ID every time you want to play a purchased song. So how can you listen to it on the iPod when you have to authenticate against Apple's servers every time? Does the new iPod have some sort of master DRM key? Does it download your key information when you download songs to it? Enquiring minds want to know
This kinda goes along with recent User Friendly cartoons. It's a shame really, usenet was great, but I haven't really used it in years. I say, get rid of it.
I've read quite a lot of the comments about this on slashdot. There's just no pleasing some of you. Apple makes a great step in the right direction and all you can do is whine and complain about it being "too expensive still", "uses.acc format", "can't do this", "can't do that." Good night you people, get a Life! If you don't like it, don't participate. If you are a company that can do better than Apple on this, DO IT! but for crying out loud, stop your insessant whining! Here, have some cheese with that!
can't build own kernel now?

Linus on DRM

What I'm confused is, if a particular kernel binary is signed, and that sig is thus required for some DRM piece of software to work, does this mean we won't be able to rebuild our own kernels since the resulting kernel will not be signed and thus DRM programs would not work?
I can't see the need for much DRM software on Linux anyway (at least not at present) but I do believe this to be a valid question. Can anyone answer?
I'm in Victoria, BC and I'm planning on going provided the boarder doesn't give me any trouble. The only problem I have with this event is there is so much going on, and it's only 1 day! I'd gladly take a week off to go to everything!;-)
I didn't think DareDevil was as bad as the poster suggests. I thought the movie was pretty excellent and stayed pretty close to the comic. Of course, YMMV.
By far one of my favorites. I waited for a long time for the sequal, "Buckaroo Bonzai vs. the Crime League" (or something like that) but it never materialized;-(
Another favorite of mine was a movie that Bruce Lee orginally wrote called Circle of Iron. However, since he died, his part was played by David Carradine. Also an excellent movie.

Check it out. I don't use it personally, one of the mail lists I'm on uses it.
email is not meant to be in HTML form. It's text and should always be text and never allow HTML Mail at all. Man I love mutt!! Many email programs (Entourage on the Mac, Ximian Evolution and I THINK MS Outhouse) have options to not d/l images from the net so this is easily defeated.
For those of you that don't know, Spaceward Ho! (that's not being a Ho!) was a space exploration/strategy game for the Mac. It was a lot of fun. sort of Civ'ish.

um, did you even READ the review? The reviewer is quite happy with the fact that it works better than VPC 5 and works well for his needs.
I don't know what planet you came from, but you might learn to read.
While this is a very cool idea and works if you run your *own* mail server, it doesn't do any good for those of us that grab our mail from ISP's and use POP (or some other protocol). It means we have to convince our ISP to use this product/concept, which in my case (cable company) is impossible since they are a bunch of twits anyway.

IE on Mac OS X is fine, no crash. So is pretty much any and every browser based on Geko.

I hope Xandros Linux updates to the new version soon. I put it on my Mother's computer but had problems with the version they have and office 2000.
I have the 2nd Edition of this faithful book and it's about stinking time the 3rd edition came out. hrm, another trip to the bookstore I go...
Does it support Candian currency? What about Canadian Loan/mortgage amortization? Canadian banking systems? etc.? Just curious.
Yes, it was great. I can't for that one on DVD. Man I really want that SHIP!
It was funny, but almost went to extremes for the humor so a lot of it was missed by many people.
Equilibrium was never released here in Canada. hrm, I wonder about the censorship of that one?

ok, granted. You'd still get spam, but at least you'd be prevented from seeing it.

In order for Symantec to have a "moral obligation" you must first assume that Symantec has Morals to begin with. They do not. It's that simple.
dupe, dupe, dupe, dupe of url ;-)
