I could write a paper that shows that the bacon shortage hype earlier this year affected box office revenues that would make exactly as much sense as this paper does. It reads like the only research tool the writer used was a thesaurus.
Why is it that young developers imagine that older programmers can't program in a modern environment?
Although I'm fighting anecdote with anecdote, I've never seen this happen. The only people I and my young coworkers assume can't program in a modern environment are people who have shown that they're unable to program at all.
The problem is it just doesn't add up. Something free isn't the same value as something paid. I've given away approximately 20,000 books on Amazon, but I've sold about 1,000. I didn't lose 19,000 sales.
Just because you've decided to use this method for marketing/distributing your product doesn't mean everyone else wants to. The great thing about the way the system works now is that one person can decide to release their product using your method, another can watermark/DRM/charge whatever the hell they want, and another can GPL their work. Then (assuming people didn't bootleg stuff they didn't have rights to) the market can decide which method of distribution is more favorable.
Note to those with poor reading comprehension: My post does not condone multi-million dollar fines for seeding torrents.
So if that's the case, the new Lucasfilm will continue to churn out movies you don't enjoy, just like the current Lucasfilm. Nothing will change, except Lucas' money room will be filled with actual money instead of Jorg Sacul figures.
I've always been of the mentality that no matter how many times Lucas messed with the old films, it didn't change how much I enjoyed the unmodified versions.
How can anyone not be pleased by this news? Any nerd I've ever interacted with had already written off any new Star Wars movies coming out of Lucasfilm. Even if the new movies are somehow worse than the prequel trilogy, it's not like we were expecting anything good. The only thing that could change my view of the franchise would be if Disney could breath some new life into it and make something worth watching.
If I even suggest that it shouldn't be legal in a society to reach through that vagina with a knife and a hose to suck out his brain, again, I'm labelled a religious fanatic.
Please don't strawman me or the pro-choice crowd. You may be called a fanatic if you insist that it should not be legal to have an abortion nine months before your son is born, not nine minutes.
Seven hells, it took me two minutes on Google to find evidence of the contrary.
“I know there are some who ask why we don’t just ban such a video. The answer is enshrined in our laws: our Constitution protects the right to practice free speech. Here in the United States, countless publications provoke offense. Like me, the majority of Americans are Christian, and yet we do not ban blasphemy against our most sacred beliefs. Moreover, as President of our country, and Commander-in-Chief of our military, I accept that people are going to call me awful things every day, and I will always defend their right to do so. Americans have fought and died around the globe to protect the right of all people to express their views – even views that we disagree with
“I know that not all countries in this body share this understanding of the protection of free speech. Yet in 2012, at a time when anyone with a cell phone can spread offensive views around the world with the click of a button, the notion that we can control the flow of information is obsolete. The question, then, is how we respond. And on this we must agree: there is no speech that justifies mindless violence.
“There are no words that excuse the killing of innocents. There is no video that justifies an attack on an Embassy. There is no slander that provides an excuse for people to burn a restaurant in Lebanon, or destroy a school in Tunis, or cause death and destruction in Pakistan.”
I didn't mean to imply people are ignorant when it comes to knowing if airplanes have flown into buildings. Much like people who believe in your rock are ignorant of what actually keeps tigers away, I'd be willing to bet a large set of people who do not fly are ignorant of what people who are dissatisfied with the TSA are upset about.
Here's the problem: in locations where exposure to different religions would be most needed (re: Kentucky and pretty much any small town in the midwest), any class like that would be a week and a half of, "Muslims think it's OK to kill everyone who isn't Muslim, Native Americans worship animals, and Catholics worship Mary as if she were God herself. Now let's spend the next 38 weeks discussing why God says it's OK for us to hate people who are different than us." The idea of a religious studies class sounds good on paper, but we have to fight hard enough to get some of these schools to teach kids Science, they're not going to happily volunteer to teach kids that people who don't subscribe to their religion are anything bug heretics.
The "crazy lady" and "no apparent reason" parts of my last post was pretty important.
just ignore her
I'm not going to shop in a store that allows a crazy lady to film me for no apparent reason.
I, for one, am pleased by this. Now I can purchase non-DRM games, and piracy apologists lose one of their rationalizations for their actions.
I could write a paper that shows that the bacon shortage hype earlier this year affected box office revenues that would make exactly as much sense as this paper does. It reads like the only research tool the writer used was a thesaurus.
But the conclusion is that piracy is awesome; we have to agree with it.
So you're telling me that Nate Silver is the only person who principally used math in his predictions?
Are we going to see /. posts on the thousands of people whose predictions were false, or are we going full on confirmation bias here?
Does your UART traffic go uphill both ways?

Addendum:
It wouldn't be much different than what we have now, anyway.
As far as extending the franchise, do you really want to watch "The Littlest Sith" or "Sleeping Jedi", or some other straight-to-DVD animated dreck?
No, but I didn't want to watch the new "Clone Wars" series, either. So I didn't.

Uninstall Borderlands 2.

Well, that's one data point; it must be true!
Ram Through (verb): The act of a legislature passing a bill you don not agree with.

But just to be safe, I want to buy your rock.
People have opinions on subjects they're ignorant of? Surely you jest.
Or you could simply not listen to music produced by labels who are part of the RIAA.

You're also only banned from playing in VAC-secured servers. But let's not let all of this get in the way of FUD.
