Read Al Franken's book, "Lies and the Lying Liars who tell them" for a full essay on what Gore really said, why it's perfectly true, how and who twisted Gore's words into a lie, and how they pushed the lie to paint Gore as an exaggerator and liar for political gain.

You're as bad as the people you're arguing with! Gore said it that way with the intent of misleading people. That's no better than the spin from the other side. It's all a bunch of BS politics that no one should be paying any attention to.

It's difficult for me to listen to people complain about others assuming BitTorrent has something to do with copyrighted materials - their problem should be with the immature fools who continually cause the association to be made.

You never really made a point or gave any reasoning for why you feel the person should not be imprisoned. Do you feel that it is no big deal? It is a violation of the law, and apparently it is punishable by imprisonment in Sweden. Were you on the side of Michael Fay when he went to Singapore and vandalized the country? I'm personally glad that they caned his ass. People can't just keep running around breaking laws they don't like and then expecting to not be punished because they don't like the law. What if I think it should be okay to kill or rape anyone I please? Would you think it was reasonable that I kept raping people and then railing agains the authorities who attempted to punish me?

If you really think that you should be able to download copyrighted material freely, then you should start to develop a sound argument for doing so and then begin persuading the country/world that you are correct. Continuing down the path of breakign the law and complaining about the consequences doesn't convince anyone that you have a better idea.

Do you only listen to things you want to hear? You can burn your iTMS music to CD, and then you can do whatever the hell you want with it, including play it on something other than an iPod.

Besides that, it's not your "right" to violate the terms of service, violate the DMCA, and do what you want with the file. If you don't like the file, don't buy it. Maybe if enough people don't buy it, they will change the way it works because it's not working out for them. If you really want change, there are better ways to go about it than to break the law. Breaking the law will cause most people to think that your point is not valid, and you will not be heard.

There may be other grounds here for getting rid of this law. I'm sure there is something somewhere that puts restrictions on what the government can tell businesses they must do and what they can't. Something along the lines of having a "compelling interest".

Yes, with P2P, you have access to content that you didn't pay for. You have access to HBO/Showtime/Spice/etc. Not all things are broadcast in all areas. Sporting events get blacked out in areas. Local advertisers lose out when you download a show because you probably didn't download it from someone living in your area, using your cable provider (there are local ads through the station that broadcast the show as well as through the cable provider).

You may not care about advertisers, but if the effectiveness of TV ads diminishes, then the quantity and/or quality of TV content will also diminish.

Grandparents, teachers and friends at pre-school, and Arthur are all things that are within your control. If your child's grandparents are vulgar, talk to them about being vulgar around your child. If your kid is picking up bad things from preschool - work with the teachers, or find another preschool. TV shows are up to you to turn on and off.

These years before regular school (where you have less of a choice about where they go) are very important. Your child is still fully attached to you and your spouse and wants to please you. You are laying the groundwork for how school and the world will affect your child. It starts very, very early, and I think that's what most people don't realize.
