Well, to begin with it lacks support for ActionScript so it's quite useless for applications and games and such.
That's what HTML5 is missing and why Flash will still stay around - they have concentrated too much on the video side only. Flash is a lot more than that. While you can use canvas and javascript to make things with HTML5, it really isn't the same. You have to give out the source code, don't get the extra performance from it being bytecode and you can't package it nicely like Flash.
That's why Flash is still going to stay here. Adobe of course doesn't really care as the development tools are important for them, but they will keep developing Flash until better technology comes along. HTML5 is becoming too problematic with its lack of support for those things and the fighting of what codec to use.
Personally I'm waiting to see what Nokia gets out. While the older Windows Mobile's haven't really been up to current generation, Windows Phone 7 is completely different thing. It's actually a great platform, and developers have the best possible tools available for making apps and games (Visual Studio, C/C++, C#, Silverlight..). It's also fast, sleek looking and up to current standards.
Now combine that with the great devices that Nokia makes and it could be a true hit. Actually, it's the only way how Nokia and Microsoft both can fight against iPhone and Android. Nokia has always had amazing hardware, but their software side has been lacking, especially in recent years.
My next phone will be either Nokia with Windows Phone 7 or iPhone. I have great hopes for Nokia.
If someone made a Minecraft for the device, I could buy it. The current codebase is way too heavy for the type of game it is - it doesn't even check if you should see an object, it just draws everything anyway. Make a lightweight version of Minecraft and it's perfect!
And they can just throttle all traffic then. Look, these are consumer level service that they're selling. It's not guaranteed, and you're not buying dedicated bandwidth. If you really want that, get a business level contract with dedicated bandwidth. It will just cost you a lot, but that's how it works.
Bandwidth isn't free, and the only way ISP's can sell good speeds to everyone is by "overselling" it. It's a technical limitation, there's not much they can do about that. I rather take a burstable 100mbit than guaranteed 1mbit anyway. If you want the latter, get it with a business contract.
I guess you don't use irc or IM then either. Besides, Skype is free while calling with phone isn't.
That also isn't the spirit of Facebook, anyone can use it how they want to. Facebook just provides the tools. Personally I don't have any people on my friends that spam mindless shit (or I have hidden them from my wall) and most people also use the facebook chat feature for one to one conversation. They've even stopped logging in to MSN Messenger because everyone they know is on Facebook anyway (I have internet friends so doesn't hold true for me tho)
However, it's actually a HUGE incentive for sites to start using it. They will get loads of free traffic as people post link to the story to their Facebook wall.
Eh, maximing window sure isn't an uncommon thing to do. I run my browser and pretty much every other window maximized, it just works better. Only windows I keep small are something like instant messenger and setting panels. Granted I've learnt to double-click the title bar instead, but many people use the maximize window button.
The title and summary are horribly wrong anyway, no wonder it was submitted by anonymous coward. Even the article states that ChronoPay didn't run it, but they provided payment processing and setting up companies for receiving payments is normal process with every payment processor.
If you upload a photo from your phone or some other direct way, it's likely you never remember or think about downloading and saving it on your computer.
Que in the comments how everyone should start hosting their blog and pictures on their own server that they manage themself, or that they should email updates and pictures instead of Facebook. Look, casual people aren't capable of handling their own server and why should they be. Also, it would mean that it all gets non-organized and you have to follow several different sites, nor can you plan events or use any other social features that Facebook offers. Not everyone are interested on all those updates or new photos and so on either and it would feel stupid to mass email them. Facebook handles it in a non-intrusive way.
All of the slashdotters who always have to suggest that should actually use Facebook and see what it offers. Once you get familiar with it, it's actually quite fantastic service for many different purposes. It also helped me to move to other side of the planet and get to know the people and places there (I wouldn't had found them from Google or even know about them, since there's no connections I can follow) and still see how people back home are doing. Just use it correctly and see how great Facebook is.
And it looks like Apples own playground is starting to build up. Like FaceTime works only between iDevices and macs.
I haven't owned an Apple product before, but after following Engadget's live food I have to say iPad 2 looks fantastic. Really, the Android tablets are so far from it that it would be almost stupid to choose something else. I guess I'm losing it against Apple, but I think I'm going to buy it as soon as it comes out in Europe.
I'm currently hospitalized for a longer period of time ( earlier post regarding it ) and I have a catherer, which also takes the urine immediately from the body. What should I do as I can't get a full bladder? On a side note, it's been great for playing MMO's as there's no need to get up to toilet...
Microsoft has been changing a lot in the recent years and they're doing lots of interesting stuff. They're also been really successful with Windows 7, Xbox 360 and many other products. I just wish open source guys would move on from the 90's already.
I hope games industry does as well. While I like and enjoy Civilization V, I did go back to Civilization IV and play it with Rise of Mankind mod. It just offers so much more possibilities and features. Civilization V is too dumbed down.
The bad thing is that instead of making the new games better, it looks like gaming industry is making them harder to mod and otherwise make their lifetime last longer. After all, you can't sell expansions, DLC's and new games if the gamers are playing your perfect game.
Sony didn't caught him because he modded his console but because he was releasing all kind of tools and secrets about the hacking, just like GeoHot. He sure wasn't just a regular guy.
I don't agree with the way Sony is doing it, but at least they are doing something. Some of the multiplayer games are completely unplayable as cheating is rampant. Something needs to be done as they're ruining the games for honest players.
Freedom means you should also be able to make money and act selfishly with your distro or open source project. I really don't get why it's always such a problem for open source advocates. If you want truly free software you let everyone do whatever they want with it.
During last dotcom boom companies had no usable plan to get income. However, Facebook is advertisers dream with its extremely targeted advertising system, Zynga has a huge amount of casual players and both advertising and direct payment system and groupon receives good money from the stores. They all have business plan. They might have to work on them a little bit as they're still so new companies, but they definitely have one that work.
That's why it's not a second dotcom bubble - it's just that the masses have started using internet a lot more than before and web itself has changed.

What better development environment there is than Visual Studio? Nothing comes even close to it.

I've always felt upload and download speeds should be the same, like they were in the days of modem access.
It IS technical reason that they are not, that's how DSL and cable works.

Heh, made my buy Creatures series from Good Old Games. This weekend they actually even have them on 40% off sale.

They can easily order it online.

However, they can still refuse to offer you PSN services. Otherwise you are already allowed to use your console as you please.

'Parents need to know that the promotion of games and the delivery mechanism for them are deceptively cheap,'
Why? Delivery mechanism and its costs hardly matter, it's the content. In fact seller should be allowed to give their services any price they want.
