We paid for it so this is correct.

  2. Cingular Edge Works Pretty Good on Cell Phone Service as High Speed Internet Link? · · Score: 1

I've been using Cingular's Edge card in a laptop for about 3 weeks now and have been pretty satisfied. I get about 180kbs when I have all bars lit up. It does have a bit of latency but that can be improved if you setup a profile that turns off their compression and proxy services.

    My 2 cents...

  6. My 3 year old Sony 2.4 ghz Phone Disables 802.11b on 2.4GHz-Friendly Phones? · · Score: 1

If someone picks up a handset in my house I lose 802.11b and now 802.11g signal. I think some of these phones use spread spectrum and don't obey all the freq hopping rules.

  7. I've switched. What a let down to their customers. on Red Hat Linux 9 Reaches End-of-Life · · Score: 1

I've switched to Mandrake. I paid Redhat nearly $300 of "support" for my two Redhat installations. One of my installations was in place for 6 years (with a one time uptime record of 659 days). I used the Redhat installation because of the update support they provided. They have really let their customers down. This is the kind of thing that happens when companies start trying to please their stock holders before their customers. I think this is a very bad corporate move that will cost them leadership in the Linux market.

  8. What a tool... on LUG Pres Resigns Over Military Linux Use · · Score: 1

This guy is blaming the tool....or not. I think he is tired of his job and wanted to get some attention on the way out. The Chinese use Linux all over their government and the oppress and kill citizens every day. Why doesn't he protest that? Like I said...what a tool.

  10. Poor "dumb" women can't understand cars on Your Future Car's Hood Will Be Welded Shut · · Score: 1

This is amazingly sexist. Clearly men and women are different on many levels but to suggest that women can't understand the workings of a car is offensive. Volvo's new "insult the market" marketing campaign reminds me of Dudley Moore in the movie "Crazy People". "Volvos: Boxey but good..."

  15. It is a good presentation on Lessig @ OSCON · · Score: 1

I really think this is a good presentation. It says what no one seems to be thinking about. When Open Source really becomes a threat to proprietary software, big companies will use every method to stop it. A lot of great Open Source Software will go to waste and we will continue, like it or not, to buy Microsoft -- Its easier than thinking.

  16. Me too... on Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome A Hoax? · · Score: 1

I have had CT type symptoms in my right wrist after weeks of extended development time. The symptoms always go away with rest and change. I try to vary the angle my wrists are to the keyboard and mouse and stretch alot. Don't know if this supports the argument or not.

  17. My computer closet on Building Quieter Computers · · Score: 1

I built a closet with glass doors in my new house and I have a small air conditioner for it. I put my servers in there and after hearing how quiet it was decided to put my PC in there as well.
I have 5 cables from my PC to where my Monitor and input devices are: VGA, USB #1, USB #2, Firewire/1394, Single RCA coax. USB's terminate in seperate USB hubs. VGA is obvious, USB #1 is for keyboard/mouse/strategic commander, USB #2 is for Photo printer, scanner, digital camera, Firewire goes to an external DVD and daisy chained to a external CDRW (10x), and finally the RCA cable is from my SBLIVE digital out to my receiver (all digital from machine to AC3 Decoder). The total lack of fan/disk noise is great. The loudest thing is the keyboard. :-)

Although I totally disagree with the Rob opinion on GWB I have to defend his right to speak on his site.
Did his comments piss me off? Sure, a little. Do I think they are incorrect conclusions? Sure do. Do I think Rob is bright and can think for himself? Yep.
One word describes his right to post his opinion here: Freedom. With freedom comes responsibility though. If his political opinions were to show up on /. all the time there would probably be far fewer people coming here.
Something we conservatives believe in is standing up for our beliefs even when there are costs. It is for this reason I applaud taco for stating his opinion...even though I disagree.

Keep up the good work /. and I'll keep coming back...again and again.
