When our craft so much as approached Mars, we got devastating wars.
Now we dared to look the God of War in the face — better start preparing for another World War, brought upon us by NASA — the hitherto deemed benevolent arm of the American war-mongering government.

It sucks to have to kill people, but you must be prepared to do it to prevent other killings and/or misery — deemed greater by some measure or another.
People have always been fascinated with things beautiful, weapons included — consider the swords and the firearms collections, for example. The fascination with a fighter plane is perfectly legitimate too.

Paper ballots? How quaint!.. The Floridian "poor", you see, were disproportionatly confused by them — much easier to have them use computers, which even a retired librarian, overseing the voting station on election day, will be able fix and to spot any and all possible tampering with...
Bland little drones that accept their place in life, don't make waves and don't try to get ahead in life are the backbone of our society.
Save for the "little" attribute, which is appears to have been used purely to insult these people (some of whom can be quite large), such drones are the backbone of any society — not just ours.
It goes without saying, that none of the participants in this discussion are such drones. Of course not.
What fault is it of the customer, if the vendor from who he purchsaed some product / service is found guilty of patent abuse?
"Buying stolen property" comes to mind... You did not know, of course, which is why you are not sued. Perhaps, your service provider will buy (help buy) you a legal replacement...
Whether it is bad or good news for the consumer, TiVo is hardly at fault — if, that is, the judge's decision against EchoStar is fair, which does not seem to be under dispute here.
I see — but this is not really a forum — the responses do not get posted automatically and so, of course, no real criticism stands a chance of being let through...
It is a shame, that every piece of electronic device comes with its own power adapter — slightly different from the others like it.
Imagine washing-machine manufacturer saying: "We have determined, that our equipment works best using 101V at 37Hz. Here is a converting device — never mind its size (about the same as the washer), and noise."
It is a pitiful failure of standartization, that we don't have an agreed-upon voltage (and minimum amperage high enough for laptops and TVs) and connector shape to avoid having to use dozens of AC-DC "bricks" around the house.
Power-over-USB seems promising (and Blackberry wisely uses it to recharge its devices)... One can only hope...
the right wing of the political spectrum has become masterful at this, pulling mainstream America way to the right with hyperbole and fear mongering.
Actually, whenever one says "fear mongering", the first thing, that comes to my mind is the "Vote or Die. Its THAT Serious" campaign of 2004, which replaced the "Choose or Lose" slogan of the earlier "get out the vote" efforts.
They lasted for three weeks... Here and here are a stories about IDF hacking into Hezbollah's broadcasts and web-sites, that were rejected by the editors.
The sender can multicast the file in a loop. The recipients will get the pieces starting from whenever they started "listening" on the ongoing multicast, and then get the earlier parts, when the sender finishes and starts over again.
This is far more efficient, than for the sender to push the same data to each client in parallel.
Why isn't DoD funding going to bio diesel research?
How much oil, do you think, the military is using? Compared to the rest of the country — very little. They don't need bio diesel. If a tank becomes 0.1% slower because of the fuel, then fook the fuel's "environmental benefits". If it came to using the tank already, environment is of the least concern.
Seems to me that less dependence on foreign oil is a major strategic advantage for the military (and by extension, the U.S.).
It is the other way around. Military does not and should not care — there is enough oil for them. The U.S. should (and does) care...
Their computers are measuring the time, their pitch was listened to... Depress them by having that parameter go down on average.
Also, although no one can hear you scream back at the recording, when aproached by the live campaigners for the same jerk, be sure to talk about nothing else, except how disappointed you are, that their representative chooses to violate your privacy with these automated phone calls.
I don't have a problem with that... but in the meantime we need net neutrality.
I don't see how. Things are fine as they are... AOL and Compuserve had their own (non-neutral) networks years ago — and both have perished over that. Free market works better than regulation.
If it is violating intellectual property, it ought to stop simply because the property's owner says so.
And if it is not, why do I care even if it bankrupts RIAA?
We have been "genetically modifying" animals through selective breeding for millenia.
It is not neccessary to introduce bits of cells (the narrow understanding of "GM") from other things to modify genes.
If agriculture was invented today, it would've been banned...
I'm glad, you did not find anything else to object to... ;-)

Are you not concerned, it may lie/break? "He said vs. she said" has the (somewhat dubious) advantage, that neither side is 100% trusted...
Your box may be off by 15%, but no one will believe you...
Microsoft Office would've never taken hold...

An "unsupported configuration"...
Thanks, very informative!

I doubt he'd be so stupid as to expose his propaganda department to the voices and opinions of reason world-wide.
But TFA has no link to the blog — maybe, there is a forum, after all?
Pretty much anything can be made into an explosive strong enough to bring down an airplane — a rather easy target, once you are inside it.
I suspect, we'll be flying naked without any "carry-on" luggage whatsoever — cloth-curtains separating the male and female sections of the planes...
It will be bizarre, but we'll get used to it as we did to having to present ID, having to part with scissors and box cutters, etc.

"Right wing"? Rrrright....

The old saying goes:
Linus is 37... And he sure has brain.
What makes you so sure, Linus would object to this use of the penguin? In fact, are you certain, they don't have his approval already?
What do we know about Linus' political leanings anyway?

I can't find a link right now, but I remember reading about Libertarian candidates nation-wide rejecting government funding for their campaigns...
