Yeah, because images work awesome when moving between hardware, especially from 3 year old hardware, and I wont get into OS differences. Profile redirection and network storage is the key, along with a setup script that handles office and all the other standard crap your org needs. At least that's how we do it, a new laptop is as easy as join the domain and reboot, tomorrow we hand it to the user after the GPO and scripts do their thing.

Speaking of the chain of evidence, wouldnt it be fairly easy to make a drive encryption program, that can only decrypt when the drive is in read/write mode? This would make any evidence collected from it unsubmissable?

This is possible because of the regulations banks have to deal with, you're not allowed (at least in my country, not USA) as a bank, to deprive someone of their money without just cause.
Do some searching, theres people who have trusted paypal with the payment methods of their legal, business licensed small businesses, and then have been literally bankrupted after paypal froze 10's of thousands of dollars for months while these peoples homes went into foreclosure. this type of thing doesn't happen with banks (they get you to go bankrupt in other ways, another topic, and you generally have to be stupid with credit)

Its definitely supported by me. When I was a pirate, no amount of DRM would stop me, if it did, which was once, an obscure game that was never cracked. I didn't go out and but it because I couldn't pirate it, they didn't create a sale with their DRM. Is my experience anecdotal? Sure, but I KNOW its mirrored in all my friends, some of whom still are pirates, and if they were suddenly denied the ability to pirate, I know for a FACT they would not go out and buy media.
I know this because they pirate for the same reason I used to. Money. They dont have it, stop them from pirating all you want, it wont generate any sales.
So yes, companies are wasting money on DRM development. Maybe not in 100% of cases, but in literally every case of piracy Ive personally experienced (which started on pirate BBS before the net took hold) would never have equaled a lost sale.
