All of them? Seriously, in this day and age it is embarrassing we have not leveraged the power of the Internet to empower people to not only vote, and proclaim viewpoints but to be part of the legislative process itself. I would wager most people on this site know more about copyright than the average congress critter.
The parent is not flame bait. Who gave mod points to the damn illiterate prudes, "Skank" is one of the accusations the blogger who was sued made that got his anonymity pulled. The point being calling someone a skank or a prude or a motherfucking son of a cunt should not be enough to have someone's anonymity pulled online.
Everyone I know has at least a few TB of data on burnt CDs and DVDs. It would be nice to be able to consolidate your multimedia stuff into one storage device.
I'm running 8 terrabytes of data on 10 1TB hard drives on a ATA over ethernetsetup in raid6. So yeah I'm pry not your average consumer but being able to access 1000's of hours of movies, tv and home video without having to pay netflix or watch the ads on hulu is pretty nice.
I have noticed that they are not giving as many mod points to the old timers anymore. It seems the new kids on Slashdot tend to be politically correct to the point of absurdity. If that is what Slashdot is becoming, just another place for kids to browbeat their elders for perceived slights that go over their heads I will stop coming.
For the love of fucking god there are a hundred other overproduced pieces of crap in the movie world to compare it to, why use the one that has a horrific double meaning?
They aren't killing politicians because they have criminal intent in doing so, they do it to make a political point. Namely that they have corrupted the political system in an area and if you send in people who do not play by our ways we will kill them. That is not criminal in the least. That would be like calling the 'Taliban' criminals when they kill politicians who encourage the eradication of the opium industry. Both use the selling of drugs to exert power and court influence amongst certain people in their countries.
10-15% of the legal population sure. Count the people who cook your meals, pick your food, mow your lawns, build your roads and McMansions than you would have well over 23%. Keep the illegal immigrants with jobs and start deporting Americans on Social Security who consume the most medical care i.e. millions of dollars of years to Mexico. Fuck old people, I'm sick of taking care of them. Some of them paid less than 80k dollars in to social security and are getting 10x that a year. Old people should have to pay for health insurance like the rest of us.
I live in PDX and even I think Seattle is depressing. It has all the same dreary weather 5-7 months a year like PDX with almost none of the livability. It has lost 10's of thousands of tech jobs in the past years forcing people to be unemployed or underemployed. It has some of the longest commutes in the Northwest and they still have not even begun talking about building light rail for it. They have a huge bicycling culture that is forced to use unsafe shoulders most of the time because bike lanes only cover 10-20% of the city, so an increased rate of accidents and a lot of yelling. Yeah, Seattle sucks.
The broadcast companies only allow one station in a geographic area to carry their broadcasting. Why can't I watch a station on the other side of the country, who am I hurting? Is it so local advertising stays local? I have two TIVOs and a Myth boxen and have not paid attention to a commercial in years anyways. I'm sure I'm not the only one here in such a situation as wanting to watch another city's stations than I am in currently.
The only reason Comcast gets my money is because they were granted a monopoly for Cable in my area. IMHO, we really need to start talking about taking away cable and in some places fiber monopolies.
On another note it would be way cool to be able to have whichever company's box has the broadcast channels on it that you associate with your home town, in my case New York and San Francisco. Do particular broadcast company stations have monopolies as well for geographic areas? I'm pretty damn sick of monopolies, we need to go antitrust hopefully with this administration before its too late.
People should not die in custody and especially should not while awaiting trial. ---- note the period
The US has more deaths in custody than almost any other first-world country but Britain is damn close because of the number of heroin-related deaths there. Deaths in custody after the introduction of the taser in both countries rose as deaths related to overdose, homicide by police officer, cardiac-arrest and many others increased substantially. The taser is over-used and mis-used and police are killing people because of it. Don't be an apologist for murderers, it makes you look like a monster.
Thank god, people in Arizona usually don't venture further than Southern California or Vegas. If they ever reached Oregon in mass we might have to pull an Oregon Trail on them and head to Canada. The new racist south extends from the I-10 in Phoenix through the whole Southern US now.
Arpaio should be raped by dogs and then fed to them.
People waiting for trial are not 'criminals'. He has had over half a dozen deaths in custody this year along for people who were not convicted of a crime. County jails should be equivalent in comfort, food and atmosphere to a Motel 6 till you are convicted, imho.
Problem being every hardware company does their own 'set of features' to differentiate themselves from their competitors which means software guys pull their hair out trying to support the fucking mess. DirectX may not be the best solution possible, but it is a helluva lot easier to support.
To the OP, if you outsource any part of your company, including cleaning services you are putting your company in the hands of outsiders. After in-house theft from employees the source of theft is almost always going to be the contractors, cleaning staff, or even delivery guys. We had a pizza guy steal a blackberry with 3 blinking security cameras pointed at him. He was a convicted felon but we did not know that because we did not hire him and yet he still with access to our site for a few minutes, we almost lost a Blackberry. If your IP is that important to not trust outsiders than don't. IT will always have the keys to the kingdom and if they are not on your side they can clean you out in minutes. Think encryption or passwords will help you? They will just install keyboard loggers or do man in the middle attacks (when applicable) using your own network.
BTW, what kind of startup can't afford IT or do it themselves? It does not take a rocket scientist anymore to handle a few servers, some switches/routers/firewalls and a dozen or so workstations. Anything beyond that and yeah it makes sense to go with an in-house IT person but seriously what kind of company has no one that can do this and is posting on Slashdot? If you can't manage to setup and run an OpenBSD box for a firewall, an Apache boxen for slinging HTTP, a cheapo 300-400 dollar gigabit router and less than a dozen workstations than this is really not the site for you and you pry don't have what it takes to run a startup. Startups are hard work and require people to be jacks of all trades till they can hire on specialists. Why not try Business Week or some place that can help you with your problems because I just don't see them.
Not where it is currently situated in my living room in relation to my sitting area. I can notice it only when standing directly on top of it, from a few feet above the set at an oblique angle but only slightly and not like old 1990's laptop monitors just a few gradients at the very edge, but even 4 feet away from it on a folding chair when I am doing my laundry I can't notice it or trust me its 2 grand I would of taken it back.
I have a dedicated HDMI out Mythbuntu computer I built for about 250 bucks that does the heavy lifting for me and a samsung/netflix blu-ray box that takes care of the rest. I tried some of the features on the TV itself but it was pretty limited like just news updates and weather. I've never owned a Samsung TV or Monitor before this but this TV convinced me to spend the extra few bucks on it and I'm pretty happy with it. Its menu system is far more intuitive than the Sony's and does not hide as many advanced features. To use some LCDs features you need to hack into them and I'm reluctant to do that to a $1000+ piece of proprietary hardware. You should really consider a cheap computer because it will do everything these 'internet-enabled' TVs do and more.
Yeah power caps are the #1 failure on any LCD. If this is a big investment for you try to put a housefan or something on it when you are just watching TV and you can turn it off for movies.

I can't kill Nazis in any of those games. Fail.

Yeah, and we all know how well Comcast QOS works.
Try Storage Area Networks.

I've never had an important text and neither have you. Note the period in the preceding sentence.

Um, what exactly are the Mexican drug gangs if not terrorists? There were 10k murders last year in Mexico.

I would love to know if this has ever been used as an attack before this announcement and by who to whom.
Isn't most Scotch made in the North of the country?
Us robotic nerds party with the Bunsen burner crowd too! How us else would we make our flamethrowers for our wee robotic warriors?
