I recently had to return 3 Sony LCDs of 2 different varieties because of various manufacturing defects and decided to try Samsung. I had recently got a bonus at work so decided to splurge on an backlight with LEDs to avoid the problems that plagued the Sony models I had. It might be a bit more expensive now to get an LED backed display like the one I ended up getting the UN40B6000 model and I've had 0 problems with it so far. I should mention I'm picky as hell about colors and uneven lighting and I think it was worth the extra few bucks. Another bonus is that it runs far cooler than the other LCDs I have seen and given equal components (read capacitors) should last a lot longer.
I also bought one of those Proscan 40" LCDs they had at Costco for 450 bucks and I use that to watch movies in the computer lounge area. Great deal but I would not waste a Blu-Ray player on it. It does have a transformer buzz thing going on all the time but for 450 bucks you can't complain. The only thing I hate about is that it draws 240 watts continuously because of the poor power system design but I just bought one of those wireless xmas-lights plugs and I turn off the whole power strip, warts and all when I'm not using it.
It is because of the 'Cadillac' health care plans at GM, it is like 30-40% of that number. If the US is going to compete with the rest of the world if absolutely needs fucking universal health care.
None of those channels you mentioned even begin to 'compete' with PBS news or documentaries. You must be libertarian and get your news elsewhere, well sorry. For those of us who like a semi-balanced bent on the news PBS and NPR are great choices and I wish they would get more public financing.
I give my local NPR station 500 dollars a year because I listen to it everyday for 3-4 hours in the car. It would be nice if more people actually gave money for PBS/NPR because currently it is the only non-commercial nation wide source of news besides the Internet.
For convincing the glorious R. Murdoch to charge for his top notch news reporting. That way the good and godly wealthy right-wingers will be able to get even higher quality information from Fox ( because all that money will be used to hire some real reporters, right?) and those misguided poor right wingers can get all of their newsly needs met by the likes of the Drudge Report and Christian Singles forums ( becoming ever more prone to riot as rumors of race riots eventually start them ).
No, I said that you can't solely hang out with your single friends. Eventually, if you ever get married or have a long term relationship you will sit down with your significant other and go 'couples shopping' for activity partners, especially if you have or plan to have children. Couples dating before you have children is a way to find people you can trust around kids, doing this beforehand adds another layer of support when you are going through the formative years with raising a family. Trying to do it alone like many many families have been trying in suburbia is half-assed if not completely dysfunctional. You can't exactly plan dealing with children's activities with childless people, try it and you will lose all your single and childless friends. The last thing they want is to deal with you and your kids all the time, hence the need for other couples with kids to hang out with.
The best advice I have to give is to find other married people or people in long term relationships that are heading towards marriage. Single people are alright but they have completely different priorities and if you hang out with them all the time you are pretty much saying to your significant other that you want to be single too. Find other geek couples and do things with them that do not involve sex. Swinging does not work, polyamarous relationships do not work and cheating only works if you are way more clever/intelligent than your significant other. A marriage of equals is a lot more work than a normal relationship, good luck.
I like E. Europe, and in some ways a lot more than W. Europe. It seems the family unit is still strong in countries like Poland and the Czech Republic; whereas in Germany the past 2-3 generations have become increasingly alienated from the preceding ones. If you are going to actually expatriate it is important to choose a place where you can marry into the local population and raise a decent family.
If you can't declare bankruptcy and escape the life-destroying debt it is time to go on the run. I would suggest Eastern Europe, it is not easy to make money doing TOEFL anymore but you can always sling hash and weed to the English-Speaking tourists. For some reason British/French/German tourists trust American tour guides/drug dealers more so than the average E. European.
As far as I know almost all organic labels make no mention of killing "critters" with guns. Almost all farmers out here shoot deer, rabbits and the like so vegans indirectly contribute to untold numbers of animal deaths.
Logic was fun but 10 years ago, I'm looking forward to taking a fuzzy logic/neural networking class this fall. I'm a Mech/EE engineer and ASM imho helped me tremendously when working with VHDL and C for controllers. Java does way too much imho and it is too easy to lose sight of the algorithm, and a lot of these languages they are recommending are just sophisticated scripting languages. To say that any language is alright to start a college career with I think is dangerously naive, if not stupid.
RMS is going to helicopter out of his grave. 'The Ride of the Valkyries' is going to start playing and innocent civilians will be killed. Theo will say he loves the smell of 'Fresh Napalm in the Morning'. Mark my words.
What is wrong with starting with ASM? I did and I turned that knowledge into 2 engineering degrees and I am working on grad school. Compilers are over rated.
The goal is to find an artist willing to work on the project for school/fame/glory or part of any future profits. This is a lot easier than some people think, especially in this economy with the droves of folks going back to college/unemployed. First Fridays or the equivalent in your town is a good place to start. I have exchanged or been given all the art I have in my hour or needed for my projects, but I have also been in the art scene for 15 years.
Why not talk to Artists? I see this shit over and over again from aesthetes and geeks both where one whines, " I could never afford to do x____ really cool project because I can't afford to pay ( geeks/artists ) money. "
You know what this is the fucking time to go make some new friends. Hell, go out tonight its Friday and artists don't turn down drinks no matter how geeky you are. I suggest art openings in the inner city and start asking around, here in PDX you can't pull out your laptop without hitting like 3 of them.
BSD is not an open license as it is too many dead ends. Yes there are tons of commercial applications out there but they are not open as 'under the hood open', its like buying a shiny new car and never being able to work on it. When it stops working you throw it away. Which is why I do not support BSD-style licensing, it is wasteful.
East Texas is one of the most staunchly conservative areas of the west. There is no way to get a balanced jury pool to even have a chance on any social or tech issue there that is not the status quo ( which in Texas is conservative ) or big business. This is the reason I believe juries should be selected nationwide and be done via teleconferencing software. That is a jury of my 'peers'.
There are some fucking idiots in India too but really the quality is about the same as the states per individual and a crap shoot on a company that has no track record. I've had good experience in India too and I'm Buddhist so I greatly respect the Indian culture and peoples, but when I've had a bad experience in India it was like getting skullfucked with a hot poker, mostly because the Indians were far more racist than anyone on my team back in the states and talked to us like we were fucking children, lied to us, made up fake reasons the product was not out the door on time and when we finally got the code it took us 10 seconds to realize they had stolen it all from some open source projects and run it through a munger/renamed some variables. The good experiences we have had outweigh the bad but the bad experience caused us to re-evaluate doing in-house projects and look to using COTS or open source solutions instead.

Thank you Jesus.

Kill the mole people!
So how much to use 'Associated Press' ?

Why is a school researching something that is currently illegal?

What the hell is a scooby snack? I've seen them as hard snickerdoodles, commercial cookies and dog treats. Someone call the Mystery Gang.

Is he a zombie? Should I throw the kids in the Subaru and drive for the mountains?
I donate 50 dollars a year to my local PB station. That is what it is worth to me and I watch it an hour or two a day.

Start out with Google sketchpad it is embarrassingly easy to use.

Hey, remember there are Artists out there who are looking for geeks.
