I agree the only thing I use my router for is NAT. There is nothing like a good firewall, QOS and caching proxy and you are not going to get that on a consumer grade router. Smoothwall is a decent way to start out but you can get addicted and soon be trying a more custom solution. For a lot of people it is their introduction to system management.

Coercion does not have to be physical, in fact most coercion that people experience in relationships and the like is based on manipulating someone's priorities or goals to more closely match your own. I really can if it is of their own free will, some of my friends growing up worked the sex industry I don't think less of them because of it. The thing is 90% of them did it to pay off meth and mdma addiction. The sex industry is not just filled with addicts it is fueled by addiction to stimulants. The boom in the 1970's due to cocaine has a correlation with the late 1990's internet porn boom with meth. Some of my friends had such habits that they would have to sleep with 2 johns a night or they would go through withdrawals that is not freedom, that is just a different kind of slavery. I cannot imagine supporting my grandchildren or children to undertake sleeping with people to pay off their addictions which would be the most likely case.
How is a 14 year old a hooker? Would it be alright if she was 10 years old? What about 3? We have laws governing the age of consent for sex why do some states treat underage sex workers as adults, like they are the ones that committed the crime?
I am sorry but neither one of these crimes are thought crimes. They both deserve prison terms and life long sex offender status.
As someone who worked in IT doing laptop repairs for years I can assure you it is rather more widespread than you think. In two of my companies they simply erased the offending material and let the guys go. In one they actually turned the material over to the police and had angry investors threatening us because it somehow gave the company a bad name. This is the number one problem with child porn and child abuse no one wants to get involved, you can become a pariah just for turning someone in. Especially in communities like sales teams to churches where people typically participate in activities that promote a sense of belonging from bible studies to beer halls. Corporations and churches alike cover things up to protect image and sorry to say but it is often the same type of things.
My friend's dad worked in a civil engineering firm and he was caught picking up girls under 5 by their private parts. They gave him a severance package and gave him letters of recommendation to civil engineering firms outside the state. 20 years later...last year he was arrested after picking up a 14 year old girl in high heels, makeup and with a bag full of sex toys when some snowbirds staying in the same motel called him in when he raised their suspicions. The girl's mother was her pimp she had a datebook that listed him as picking her up since she was 12. He got 3 whole years because the state he was prosecuted in still considers a 14 year old sex slave a prostitute. The guy I was talking about earlier that had child porn on his computer got a 5 year sentence. What is wrong with this picture?
I have Islamic friends in the states and those that have something else to do besides religion rip on god as much as any Christian I know. I think it comes down to separating angry young men from the allure of personal and political power that comes from investing so much of one's energy into being aware and following religious dogma. Some of which vigorously enforce racist stereotyping which can lead to sectarianism or endless small wars that suffocate the economy and sexual stereotyping that can lead a society in which half of potential workforce is kept barely or completely illiterate. The united states did not hit its stride till after WWII when we realized that any race show heroism on the battlefield and women can match men in any profession that does not require brute strength.

Since the change I have been coming to Slashdot maybe 10% of the time I used to. Does anyone know how to get the old slashdot back?
$220 video card at Newegg and even an 85 dollar processor and you can play at 1080 at reasonable framrates. Can't do that with my 360 or ps3 there is always a part of a game or an entire game that is completely unplayable at that resolution.
I am the family tech guy and I see a Vista causing issues with older hardware added after the fact to already stable Vista systems. In one instance they had installed a 16 bit soundcard with no support after Windows 98 and limited support in Linux to a Vista system with 24 bit HD sound because their stereo cables were not color-coded. Vistax64 Ultimate runs decent on my system after I turned off some bells and whistles and made it function and look more like a workstation and less like a kiddie computer.
Yeah, maybe if you don't need a workstation to do work. Tell me when I can get a workable CAD laptop with 8 gigs or more of RAM, a real processor, a 24+ inch screen and I will still laugh at it because it lacks any sort of ability to do raid 5 physically. If I can't have redundancy AND performance it is useless to me. Yes, I also have 4 drives in a 1+0 but they are are not what I depend upon when the shit hits the fan.
Who cares about CGI when most CAD engineering groups use Windows work stations still. CGI is kids stuff compared to some of the assemblies that they work with in the aerospace industry.

Why, name a CAD solution that does not run on windows that the industry uses. Now name the ones that are not supported on Linux and it is over half.
