There are many ways to predict the future, I personally think the monitors will be everywhere, from our flat's walls to our clothes' sleeves. It'll still be flat (2D) and people should now realize that what counts is the input. For years, we only had one focus at a time and this should change, thus allowing drastical changes (imagine if several networkedusers have a focus on an app at the same time... impossible ? who remembers the Acorn "Spheres of chaos" where 4 users could play on the same machine at the same time ?). So, I'd go for a more practical approach to a 2D interface (I was thinking of some itnerface that would ban both scrollbars and overlapping windows by magnifying the active zone of each focussed elements while reducing the others thus making these still visible, ergo invokable)...
I think it had a snowball effect : people inconsciously feared it and their fear grew while they heard even more about it. So it's not only the media, it's also people.

"300" is probably one of my favourite comics... Maybe along with Grant Morrisson and Dave McKeen's "Arkham Asylum"... It'll be a shame if they make it a mess.

Funny how many movies made by Miller or inspired from his works are about to come in 2005/6:
There recently was a big card problem here, in Europe. It did not come from a peculiar OS but just because a partition got filled by index tablespace extents. So, it could just be that they ran out of place and it froze the whole application.
It should at least have been 6 months of collectivity-related work. If the guy was technically decent, it's a shame he'd be sent to a federal fuckodrome...:(
It can be the best product ever, because it is geeky... I am not sure it will beat the iPod which has become a de facto standard. I however am looking forward to see it IRL.
I just realised : this doesn't use electricity, it's some mechanical representation of these electronic devices. I however think this still could be used in non electrical devices (quote any "infernal machine" here, like the one that get triggered after Indiana Jones picks a statuette)...
So they can let phones on planes - big deal. Exactly how is this different: 'some wanker talking loudly to the person next to them' 'some wanker talking loudly to a person on the phone'
In the former case, you can just turn to both of them and just tell them to shut up. In the latter case, the phoner might however pretend he ignores you and just continue.
It's just surprising to see how many people just vow a cult to the movie "Fight Club" while socially unable to tell such people to fuck off whenever they are bothring their rest by babbling stupidities on a cell phone ?
Come on, free your mind and tell it instead of whining afterwards.
Let's turn it differently : US has the largest economy as well as the largest contribution to the negative ecological impact. Ergo : Maybe US should revise their economy in order to fit the possibilities of planet they are sharing. I want them to act as a model, not as guilty people, see my point ?
There are indeed environmental issues but it's really taken into account, you cannot imagine how much the Swiss love their red flag to fit the sky's blue and the fields' green.
Do not speculate : USA is currently the biggest polluter, whether others will become worse soon is another story, what we want is the US to show an example and make radical progresses towards making the Earth a better planet to give our children.
In Switzerland, where I live, they developed recycling, public transportation and also motivated people to make more sport, use their bikes whenever possible... walk instead of taking their big greasy trucks to the mall, the result is a better environment aware society.
Exactly, my concept could be built over OSX in order to trigger a new PDA generation...
Steve ? Are you listening ?

An iPod would be a battery-powered USB device (and Firewire) so what has this that the iPod hasn't ?

This would be a JVM running on top of hardware instead of using an intermediate OS layer... Kinda like Sun NCs with Java procs.
Imagine if your java apps run in native mode while the rest is under OSX...
It does appear that Rosegarden supports latency compensation, which I think Logic 7 Pro *still* doesn't do properly.
OK, just tell me how many more tracks (no effect) it supports on similar hardware.
...but the story submitter said so.
From the page...
Rosegarden is a professional audio and MIDI sequencer, score editor, and general-purpose music composition and editing environment.
What I just want to get are specs... How many tracks at once does it promise ?
Logic Pro does more than enough and Cubase was much slower.
You invented the ISO9xxx certification so that whatever this guys do could be traced if he's an insider... so use it or dump it if you don't trust it.

They don't want this extension, that's why I bet sex.jobs and sex.mobi are already taken.

can one create robots with these or is it only to create simple electronic circuits ?
I guess these could be combined with mindstorm, couldn't these ?

MPs are outraged, and the EU may investigate why no mandatory public bid was started.
nothing has been paid yet and an enquiry will be done, so let's avoid being indignated and be constructive against such practices...
The question is whether you talking to YOUR PC yet, not whether you are shouting at THEIR server now ;-)

Ask your Uncle, M. "Rocket Scientist"... :)

There is a advantage of being left-handed - it is the element of surprise when you meet your foe
:)
Most FPS games now have the option to make your character left or right handed when it's using an ae or something, so it's no more a surprise
