  1. Re:Where's my violin? on Gambling Sites Battle DDoS Attacks · · Score: 1

We recently argued that it was the pr0n industry that helped some new web technology to emerge.

Now, it (I associate pr0n and gambling as these both long remained the only cash making online services providers) begins developing technologies in order to make the whole ddos plague a past nuisance, so, why do you complain ? They're working for you, aren't they ?

BTW, I watched Godfather 3 yesterday, so understand I have some sympathy with folks looking to redeeming themselves.

Well, according to a previous story, Microsoft did even better with Balmer, so I guess, it's a question of personality : Linux is obviously very talented but I am sure loads of kernel hackers have what it requires to technically replace him. The question is who, besides maybe Cox, has the personality and the fame such a role takes ?
If Linus wants Linux to be that transparent, I am sure he has also anticipated such issue and he might have planned his own succession.

A decent Linux setup is, for instance, my Debian server which has been installed the following way :
    1. minimal install (command line)
    2. supplemental services paranoidly configured one after one.
    3. nightly apt-get update/upgrade from security.debian.org

Of course, if you just install a complete SuSe+X11.org on a server, you'd expose yourself to any of the flaws that each of its service might have.

Just be decent and do not install stuff :
