Better switch to RiscOS, then.
It is IMHO the most astonishing environment ever.
Just ask sombody who uses it about !Compo, or Messenger Pro, for example...
Actually, if you don't know him, it's because you've not read until the bottom of the page where it actually reads :
"Berners-Lee is director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)"

The system architecture is quite different in BSD and Linux, but,t hanks to Posix compliance, programs recompilation is usually enough.
The development model : Linux is developped an anarchic-looking way and you may have the most advanced features on your system, you won't have a guaranteed stability. In the case of BSD, the development is centralized and each time they agree to release an update, you can be sure it is rock-solid in terms of stability.
If they don't want to port it, why wouldn't they leave its source to some generous Geek?
Hypercard has one elegant aspect, it is its simplicity.
If many people have been using it for years, it is not because of something else.
The problem is that we might have to wait for a very long time to see companies Open-Sourcing software instead of just abandoning it. --
I got a problem with these game pads controllers, whether integrated or not in a console:
The arrow-keys are usually on the left while the action keys are on the right.
My problem is that I am used to playing with a computer keyboard on which the arrow-keys are on the right and the action key (space bar, etc) are left to these.
I am actually very bad with such inverted key configurations.
Is there a way to invert this or will I have to dismount the GBA case to invert the screen?
Of course, the best for me would be to have the opportunity to buy a "left-handed" GBA.

Chili Soft belongs to Sun.
Sun produces SunOs/Solaris which is BSD compliant.
So, besides recompiling ASP, what is actually
making this port a difficult thing, or at least, worth performing the mentionned study? --
Actually, I work on a similar concept which would allow one to either copy or paste the standard way or to push/pop(or peek) from the "stackboard".
It just seems that clipboards have become obsolete.;-) --
The limit with this feature is that you can't just gather files from several directories views so each time you want to add a new file to your selection you have to paste all the previous somewhere and just copy paste the new with them.
I remember a NeXTstep feature which was the handful : The first time you selected more than one file in a view, you then had an icon showing a hand which appeared. You could preserve this icon by putting it on the filer window shelf. Once there, you could use as a temporary directory and drag subsequently chosen files so that at the end you could copy/move/delete, etc. all the selected files at once.
I'd like to see this feature in modern filers. --
Hi,
Nautilus is a all-in-one explorer (files, web, etc.).
It requires Gnome 1.2.
The closest linux alternative is Konqueror which requires at least kde 2.0.
Go to Eazel's web site for some screenshots.
Your arguments are quite incomplete too : you just say that this industry is not responsible... blah blah but how do you demonstrate it ?
I was there and I cant tell you they were *among the first* to develop such stuff in Java in 1996.
BTW, not that I have that huge knowledge of pr0n, but it seems to me that few other people dared to charge via applet based secure credit card pament system.
But well, you are much more extreme than me by having your position as at least, I were there and I could appreciate what was going on there (I also developped huge systems for others companies but no one included these features). --
I agree with the fact this looks like bashing but most of the people here actually attack Scientology itself.
Why ?
Well, Scientology has an easy life and too few problems, even though most of us only know about it what the media brought to them.
And let's see : lots of money, private towns,.. and... hey! what's this ? In France, during a long suit involving the contacts between the Scientology and some politician, all the files "poof" disappeared... and they were not even using Windows !
There are too many people who protect this "religion" and too many others, like me, who claim the right to have their files public.
Or it means they are not a Religion but something much more obscure.
BTW, they lack martyrs, their adepts have nothing but their "chiefs" (or whatever to call them) whose example to follow.
Now, this won't prevent me to thank God for whatever, nor to watch Face Off or MI:2 who are played by excellent though Scientologists actors.
So : no : This is not about Religion, this is about obscurantism (but I agree this also looks mass-[flam|troll]ing;-).
And, finally, even if I greatly appreciate Larry Wall and if I am myself a Christian, I think that his name has not much to do in such a thread. --
Some years ago, I lost my job and moved to Paris because of an exciting job offer I had.
It consisted of developing the following in java:
an online distributed secure payment system
a video-broadcasting system using very-low bandwidth but high res-picture
a secure auction system.
After I left this organization, I discovered I had been coding porn sites infrastructures.
(I actually had no idea about this while I was there. Thanks for respecting me, guys! anyway, I might have refused the offer, if I had known what it consisted of)
What I mean is that, as in the case of the French Minitel, only the pr0n-makers could afford to spend that much money in R&D as tat these times they were the oly ones to make money out of their websites.
So, which new technologies did the pr0n industry bring to the civilized world?
they beta-tested and stabilized e-commerce
they were among the first to put live media online.
they proved one can make money out of their stuff.
and they were also far more delicate with their co-workers like me than others company for which I later contributed to develop a billing-system.
So, just let them do, they have actually pioneered the digital era. --
The problem with cable is that it requires massive production of physical medium, so the idea would be either:
to re-use an existing "cable-based" connexion (which is basically what Alcatel aimed the DSL technology at - FYI, I was working with them on that project).
to use another kind of hertzian connexion in which case the impact on the cities infrastructure is far less important. I have also been working with an ISP whith whom we managed to set up a radio-based network in Arabia (with up to 40Mb/sec over 50 kilometers).
The final possibility would be to use the electrical network to communicate : There are actually some possibility to transfer data along with electricity with very good (xMb/sec) transfer rate.
it seems that it was not widely developped in France because of the government reluctancy to have a company (Electricite de France) concurrencing one another (France Telecom)... --
So you mean that if somebody manages to develop a P2P based banner/ads service, he might make a lot of money ?
What would the constraint be ?
Just encapsulate in the protocol some way to force the guy who downloads to get some banner and Bob's your Uncle.
After all, this doesn't look that complex to realize. --
Wouldn't the fact of running away during their trial cause them huge problems?
Why in fact do they choose this "Somewhere" solution where a P2P model like GNUtella would settle them *Anywhere*? We know that things change damn fast these years and even Iraq or China might not be a lawless Eden for a long time (and by the way, with Iraq being bombed once in a while, it might induce lots of power shortages around the server).
During the last few years, a group has been working upon an asynchronous processor : AMULET.
This CPU uses the ARM core.
It is so power-efficient that it could only rely on the induction power resulting from its pins transmitting information.
Current status specify delivery of the AMULET3i. --
I should add a comment in order to ut all my mails under the GPL in my.sig
If I send an insults/threats mail to one of these guys, he won't be able to sue me as I'll explicitely forbid him to forward the only evidence he has.
This is stupid, I'd agree with a suit if the original sender would put an explicit "do not forward" in his mail but the contrary just means that we, by default, refuse our correspondance to be forwarder. IE: we don't assume what we write.

I re-coded the whole administration scripts set in Forth.
Why was this nasty ?
- because it didn't work ?
- because it took ages ?
So Why ?nope : t'was perfect
nope : only a week.
Because I knew they would renew me for *years*

- a big bit about real people about to lose their jobs

I don't know which sites (I was R&D, not webmaster), only the year : 1996.
You seem to be quite reluctant about these guys, don't you?

You don't get it: it was not called like this at that time. It didn't even have a name.
The closest looking-like technologies were far inferior.
