I've heard good things from teksavy also but I'm with ElectronicBox myself. I believe they own everything but the dry line from the CO to my house (which I pay 10$/month to bell, dammit)
VoIP is not offered in my area but I'm itching to build a homemade PBX. And there is a bunch of features for voicemails and transfer that you would be able to use with the provided SIP or H323 calls.
I'm with you there. I mean you already loose a lot efficiency wise to transform 110VAC to 12VDC for the batteries, why bother going back to 110VAC if every system in that box uses DC current ?
Granted, you'll want some 110VAC output for periferals but still, there is something to work on.
And it wasn't really that expensive. There are lots of controller chips for resistive touch screen available out there. They cost almost nothing (OK, I thing I got mine as a sample...) and with a minimalistic circuit will talk directly to RS-232.
I work for Nuance communications, www.nuance.com and our latest version of the software is available for Linux and the developper license supports 2 simultaneous connections free of charge (extranet.nuance.com).
Of course, that will only give you the speech rec part of the system, you have to deal with the command execution yourself. That and you'll need a few hundred megs of RAM just to load the thing...
One day I'll kick my ass hard enough to make a VXML system that controlls my house.
You can't cross the atlantic in 5 days on a calm sea. You need wind and lots of it.
I talked to a swedish guy (can't remember the name) who was in a crew that attempted the atlantic record a few years back. They waited weeks for the right weather conditions : a typhoon !

After seeing Daikatana, I don't think Romero is the model to follow but he is with Stevie "KillCreek" Case and there are worst thing than that in life...
Don't buly the kids to use computers. Let them have fun first. Let them learn to write first.
True, thay need to learn how to these things early, but there is a difference between a few courses and teachers using computers in every damn class without a good reason just because they can.
Lets not forget the basics of educations. Its usefull. Even if we have a hard time convincing our kids of that.
I'm from Montréal and we are lucky enough to have the "festival des films du monde" and "Fantasia". with these two, you can find out about lots of répertoire and weird movies.
Of course, You have to be here to enjoy Daniel Langlois(Softimage's dad)'s latest toy : ExCentris
X10 has been out there for a while and in the beginning it was used by geeks. Low level electronic geek mostly (partly guessing here, talking from limited personnal experience) but still, people usually not satisfied by the baseline. That is why there always was a lot of information on the standard out there.
For once, this company know who they're selling to and they are acting accordingly
I know many of you are actually happy that they got shut down, but for the ones that must see those bad jokes, Brecht Sandlers' Joke database still got them. Do a search on Dilbert.

I wish I had mod points for this...
My parts are in the sticky hands of FedEX. Can't wait to set this up !

The straw must be able to reach that height. There is nothing that mentions the height of the drinker. Or of the bucket...

Because the system is not dependant on ground input.
So I suppose there was nobody in those 4 planes...

Then the screen itself is ~100$
Can't be much more than a day of work.

And what prevents the thief from using a modified biometric reader that spits out my fingerprint ?
What you are talking avout is not biometrics, it's complex smartcards.

I was an intern for smart technologies 3-4 years ago.
:)
The technology is real simple, just a tad tricky to build
The real treat is not the whiteboard, it's the rear projection stuff. Imagine a 72 inch touchschreen. Minesweeper to a whole new level

Now THAT was twisted and funny !
He, look at my user ID, I killed Superman a few thousand times !

I never used it but if it really works in 1 click, the cookie must be the way to say user = CC number

And I'm all out of mod points :)
You could start the "telethon for opensourceman's karma"...
I think you describe the essential problem of the described method. you continuously have to adapt your level.
I disagree with your point issue though :
>Moderation points issued can be simply be made
>proportional to # posts.
trollers post a lot and I don't want them to moderate down my post down because I try to be civil
One alternative would be to send them to someone who doesn't want them. someone *bad*
How about sending the coasters to the worst (electronic) spammer of the year. Spamming the spammer!
Of course, that might be AOL anyway...
Hey, that's good : a "bury AOL in coasters" day
When could this be... when was aol founded ? Any meaningful date suggestion ?
I wonder if they have some kind of failsafe against returns. Or do they ship it to another poor soul
