Honest question, what do people have against Origin exactly? I know it's made by EA, and the game selection isn't nearly as great as steam, but I've used it a little bit and it seems like a decent competitor. There was nothing that really seemed off-putting about it. They even did a humble bundle recently and let you active those games on steam!
That still doesn't make it okay to knowingly profit significantly from the illegitimate uses. I'm not sure what's tough to understand about this. You live in a society - behave like it.
Well in that case we should shut down all gun manufacturers and no one gets guns at all. They're *definitely* knowingly profiting from crime. Except that we value our freedoms and understand that there's a balance between freedom and preventing crime. This is part of a society.
I can't believe anyone can be so intellectually dishonest. People are interested in sponsoring a site because eyeballs have been gathered by making in-demand content available. Therefore the quality of the content is part of the commercial exercise.
It has nothing to do with quality of content. As far as I understand the advertisers pay per view and/or click. Less demand for content is less eyeballs and the advertisers don't pay as much. If megaupload doesn't consume their advertising budget they'll supplement elsewhere.
I don't know. It could also be a good gateway into coded programming for a new Win8 developer. It seems like you could create a basic layout for an idea you have and get some content more or less slapped down, then open up the code it spits out and start editing from there. Sometimes the largest barrier for amateur developers is getting started with a new platform.
I make android apps as an amateur hobbyist and it peaked my interest. Of course, I still don't really want to install windows 8 (stupid requirement) or get a win8 phone right now.
You send say 5 people over to your destination each with a different 1TB memory chip containing truly random data. (radioactive decay, xored with rain xored with a lava lamp) Then when you transmit data you xor it through all 5 layers of random data.
Sorry to derail the conversation a bit, but if just one of your sources was truly random wouldn't that be enough? As far as I know you can't be more random than random.
I just checked this out. It's actually 80 dollars for HBO and 30 Mbps broadband compared to the 40 bucks I'm paying now (albeit for 12 Mbps). I don't really need more than 12 Mbps and $40 for HBO is too much. Thanks for the tip though.
This was only true at first. You have to hand it to them for a valiant effort at competing with android and ios, but they kind of did it in the same way as windows phone and failed in the same way as well. BB10 is a pretty decent OS, just like WP8, but no one cares. Why? Because they don't bring anything special to the table and without that, there's no competing with established ecosystems. They (and Microsoft) made an overpriced and mostly closed off device. Google did well against apple because they did *not* fall into this trap. Android phones can be had for cheap and are highly hackable. The only reason Apple got away with it to begin with was because they were the *first* to come out with a *good* touchscreen smartphone and the centralized app ecosystem that customers could easily access.
Great distinction. This is why I still read slashdot.
Also, you're right that technically the "PC" as in "IBM PC" is dieing, but what they've come to mean by "PC" is just "personal computer"; as in: "the computing device that you do all your electronic work with." The end of the "IBM PC compatible" era is still interesting, however. It just doesn't grab headlines.
You didn't even bother to research the OUYA before commenting apparently. Your fanboy is showing.
Let me fill you in: The OUYA is also $99 and utilizes real game controllers. Maybe the iPad could connect with bluetooth to a controller or something, but most if not all of the games are designed for touchscreen controls. I believe this is why OUYA is reportedly not using the Google Play Store. If they did, it would create confusion when it comes to finding games that are optimal for "consoles".
So people are going to prop their phone up in front of them or something while they hold a controller? Android is a great development platform, but you need a separate device that connects to a TV (or tablet) to really use controller based games. The biggest advantage of using android (nexus Q etc), would be that your games stay associated with your account on whatever android device you're using.
That's a good point, and what's even cheaper than owning an alternate gas-powered vehicle is to have a gas-powered generator on a trailer hitched to the back of your EV. You stop at gas stations to refill your trailer which charges your EV as you drive. EV manufacturers could make big bucks on this overpriced accessory which would still be way under the cost of buying a second vehicle.

"Not good enough for what?" is the question though. We're talking about desktop CPUs here.

Good thing I went into digital IC design then. Our CAD vendors don't even support Windows at all. Long live Linux for getting real shit done.
Uh, case in point?

Freedom and democracy are not the same thing. Obama was elected fairly (more or less).

I was basing the story off the speculation
Well there's your problem.
Worked for PCs.

Google may soon be a media conglomerate as well.
Sharknova
Dawkins pretty much said the same thing a very long time ago.

If people don't have money, they cannot buy anything. Why can't the big corporations see this?
They do, but it's a tragedy of the commons because not every company has to support the workforce for them to profit.
AA++++ response, would upvote if modpoints
If there was a Nobel prize for good intentions, sure, give him that.
That is the current Nobel Peace Prize. Note the 2009 winner.

Sorry, gotta make a correction (why else would I troll slashdot?).
Power increases with the *square* of clock speed. See for yourself
Your general point that relying on increased clock speed is a bad strategy remains correct of course.

You only notice the ones that have been modded up.
You mush have strange hardware.
And this is why linux never made it to the desktop mainstream. That and lack of eye candy.
