Now you tell me where someone who lives off the grid there who relies on wood year to keep warm that a subsidy at tax time all the way after April will help when it is -40 outside! In Fairbanks Alaska it can get down to -40 for weeks on end. A modest house even with a furnace which is around 1200 square feet can cost $2000 a month to heat!
Unacceptable and time for the guys with guns to tell the EPA to fuck off.
Shit in an arctic climate you have electric bills that cost $2000 a fucking month for a tiny 1200 square foot place when it hits -40 for weeks on end at night.
Take away their wood stoves and you have a rebellion. That is not acceptable period! Sure in NYC who cares right? But, in cold climates people even with grid electric and gas rely on wood stoves to cut down on costs as heating a modest home some 110 degrees above what it is outside 24x7 cost a shit ton of money.
Shit there are people who pay $250,000 for a freaking bathub and do not blink buying a $50,000 Ford F-350 complete with $10,000 shocks, strucks and tires to show off how much money they have compared to you and I on the road.
People have money and even if the HPs and Dells are in decline, the high end motherboard industry is taking off as many play more PC games. So yes $400 is cheap for a $1800 computer to MMO with their friends.
Not everyone is a poor young professional with student loan debt. However, that demographic is increasing though.
I must point out that Chrome doesn't beat Firefox in memory usage. I just swapped from a Linux Mint Debian installation, in which I used Firefox primarily, to a Sabayon Linux installation, in which I use Chrome primarily. Similar configurations, similar extensions, similar page load - very similar memory usage. I suppose that anyone could do that same test for themselves, and different people would get different results. Someone who loads a butt-ton load of Java apps in their browser may find that brand Z works better, while someone who gloms onto every Flash app will find that brand Y works best, while the other dude who runs a stripped down version with no extensions enabled finds that brand X is bestest and fastest.
For MY purposes, it actually seems that Firefox may have a very slight edge on Chrome for memory usage, but I'd have to do some double checking before I committed myself to that statement.
You know Firefox 24 is a big improvement over 4 but you know what? No one cares after what they did. Compare IE as an example?
IE is a great browser now! No really. IE 11 supports HTML 5, CSS 3, hardware acceleration and low latency javascript that rivals both Chrome and Firefox. I tested it as snappy.
But does anyone on slashdot care? NOPE!
They remember IE 6 and some of us geeks who have suffered through developing old IE pages and removed malware last decade from silverhaired users who do not know what a browser is who think that blue E standard for E-internet have made up our minds. IE SUX! I will not try it again yada yada.
Same is true with Norton AV, and even Windows 7 (XP diehards tried Vista and are scared of change now). Firefox is no different.
The mindshare is lost regardless of the fact that Firefox 24 is a much much better browser than the horrible 4.0. Once you lose that trust with some bad products it is hard to get back.
What does it matter, since no game that will be released in the next 10 years is going to need more graphics power then the shitty xbox one can crap out?
... uh Crysis and anything on 4k. This card is still not fast enough at that resolution.
Graphics still are not photorealistic yet and we have a long way to go before that happens. At 1080p these would suffice but Battle Field 4 barely plays at a lousy 40 fps at 4k even with this Titan?!
Well according to those who are broke the iPhone is free of charge!
It wont cost anything to use at all compared to these silly users who pay up front... well off to go to pay $120 a month for my 1 user phone bill. Wow I can't imagine why it is so high and why I can't leave for 2 years?!
At least I do not have driver issues that plauge Nvidia cards like the 320.x drivers which are known to brick their cards and mess around with Aero on Windows 7.
Before I got modded down or flamed galore for this... I am taking about 2010 - 2013 ATI drivers vs Nvidia ones. I kept having quality issues when I was a nvidia fan boy and switched to an ATI 5750 and now a 7850 with HDMI and things have been great since! 2002 with ATI rage pro's... well that is a different story altogether compared for today.
If I were to buy a new GPU (if I still kept my ati 5750) I would go with ATi again as even the 270x has 2 trillion ops per damn second of power which is incredible and a better value for $/performance.
Every GPU supports these things in hardware. What Nvidia did was refuse to support these in directX and required proprietary code in CUDA to do things that ATI does with directX. In other words Nvidia is the IE of video cards.
Tomshardware is known to be biased as they take in ad money and partnerships with Nvidia and Intel. They put in x87 non IEEE FPU tests where Intels own chips win and declare anything AMD/ATI a loser as a result rather than real world performance. They do not test the later versions of Skyrim which have proper FPU support as an example in their benchmarks.
Why should a firm be forced to upgrade? IE 9 runs fine. IT has projects and deadlines to do and upgrading for the sake of upgrading is not one of them?
Please IE 9!= IE 6. You dont need to spend 50% of your time on just that one version unlike IE 6.
Google is clueless as the schools they market to still run IE 6 with Windows 2000. Corps run IE 8 and that is considered modern! These users will just go to Office 365 instead. Not everyone is a 22 year old blogger and Google cant see that
As said before you cant really work with folks who think the world is less than 5000 years old and gut feelings for searches of truth rather than facts.
Just like the oil industry supports GOP the science industry needs to do the same with domocrats. Come on folks both parties are the same? Really?
They value our time and costs it takes after millions to get IE 8 just year. WTF
Google wont have customers anymore at this rate. The 22 year old programmers there have never worked in a production environment. Google doesnt count as they money to burn and its not labeled a cost center
IE 11 has latency and timing tools. No other browser supports them. IE is accelerating too quick as IE 8 works just fine. If it aint broke dont fix it.
At home I dont use it but developers and corps hate anual releases. Updates break things and no one uses css 3 or html 5 as IE 8 is still the worlds most popular browser. As long as it does what users want thwy wont see a need to change.
The same C like syntax in almost all modern languages that are desktop oriented where you need to keep track of things like registers on the cpu, bottlenecks, and then in advanced object oriented classes how abstract java based frameworks work.
What makes success? Time and desire to finish your program.
Hibernate and java 2 EE or Drupal can take months to learn how they work before you can do anything useful which I find irritating.
Journalism and art majors have things quite easy compared to chemistry, medicine, engineering, or computer science ones. Business can be easy too if you do not focus on finance or statistics but even that is half way between the time and hardness of art vs medicine.
Hardware accelerated video effects, environmental bitmaping, polygon calculations, hardware color transformations, smooth scrolling, hardware font rendering with geomotry for resizing, etc??
FYI I am not a game developer or cad artist, but does this even have to be asked in a place like slashdot?!
Your cell phone uses A TON of GPU accelerated features and browsing your gmail in Android would go blip blip blip blip on the fastes of ARM 6 core processors and no widgets or even screen resizing would work without your GPU!
Go use IE 8 at work and notice slashdot goes blip blip blip on your XP box. Use IE 11 or your phone and it is smooth up and down with your phone. Why is that? GPU accelerated framework. Chome and Firefox for some retarded reason turn it off by default?! Go in about:flags or about:config and turn hardware/GFX settings on and all of the sudden it looks smooth like your phone unless you have crappy Nvidia drivers.
2d stuff is heavily accelerated these days if you ask any Intel atom netbook users how powerpoint is working out?
In economics there is a term called opportunity cost. For example you could be working a second job instead of reading this reply or going to school for a better career.
There are three people out of work for every available job. Many of the available jobs are bogus listings designed to justify hiring an H1-B who doesn't actually meet their bogus requirements either. Most of the available jobs are minimum wage, or near it, and even having two of them wouldn't let you feed a family.
My ex guild leader is much richer and lost money as he did not want to start a business again and make gobs of money as that means no midnight runs. When things got rough his sister told him to quit playing and go get a real job or get your butt out of here. He did just that and is now making about 6 figures again.
Most of us have never made six figures. Why don't you talk about people to whom we can relate?
or earn more over a lifetime with $500 a credit hour for an advanced degree.
Many of the people who can't find a first job in the USA right now have an advanced degree. You're talking out your ass.
Who? Only people I know out of work with an advanced degree are too good to take any job and after a long period of unemployment are now unemployable. That is their fault as it is not 2009 anymore.... those who dropped out of highschool and have a record of quiting jobs every 6 months got hit hard and are struggling. Anyone can make 6 figures if you are willing to take risks and gain a skill and work many many hours. You just are not willing to work hard to do it or have a family and do not want to risk anything with your stable comfy job. That is fine too as it is risk and a marriage issue if you work 80 hours a week for 2 years to start your business.
I can't think of anyone iwthout an advanced degree still out of work since 2009! Sure they make hell of alot less than they did but $40,000 a year is doable for many jobs with this including being a teacher which pays that. I guess some are not willing to do that
Stoves create smoke therefore I can build my home with one. Fairly simple
Look at the source? Alaska

I pay $50 a month for my cell phone. Multiply what you pay x 24? You paid $1200
Doesn't sound like I am the sucker if you ask me and explains why poor people remain poor.
Wasn't SeaMonkey discontinued in 2009 or something?!
Does it even get security updates? Support HTML 5? I am not a troll here but curious as I thought it was abandonware for quite some time.

That is marketing fluff.

For a more accurate benchmark click here?
Can Gigabyte and Asus still make motherboards without Windows? Linux is too small.
Tablets would take over then. The pc ecosystem you run Linux on was created for dos clones. Without a windows OSX will turn into ios
If Windows dies off then what happens to the pc?
Think your tablet that requires signed binaries and is drmed to the roof will boot linux?
Nope its android time with playstore only with spyware.

Apps that were made just 2 years ago! IE 8 owned 90% of the IE market when it takes 2 years to write. You cant expect these packages to be certified.
Time to switch to Office 365 then.
They value our time and costs it takes after millions to get IE 8 just year. WTF

Using SSL beyond 64 bits was down right illegal!
What else can you do besides use IE 6?
They are hard core XP users too as modern IE is too standards compliant to work right

Read the first article on tomshardware. Yes they tested framepacing and latency
