The FACT is that women ruled tech jobs, until men decided they were too profitable for the little ladies and took over.

When did this occur? When did women stop dominating architecture or civil engineering? When did they stop being the majority of mathematicians and chemist?

I'm not making the argument that they didn't rule these fields because of biological differences, and it very well could be because of misogyny or sexism; but making shit up doesn't make you right.

What does that or radar labs in WW2 have to do with what I wrote or Google, other than reinforcing my point. Women weren't in those jobs not because they weren't capable, but because they weren't allowed.

Plenty. It also directly contradicts what you wrote in that first sentence.

    Let's see.
    1. Lady Lovelace ADA invented her own analytical machine after reading about Babbage and has a language named after her.
    2. COBOL the first programming language was invented by a woman named Grace Hopper.
    3. Katherine Johnson was a famous mathematician who pioneered early space flight at NASA with celestial navigation on the early primitive mainframes,
4.Kay McNulty Mauchly Antonelli was on the Univac project during World War II for the first electronic computers.

Lady Lovelace, Katherine Johnson, and Grace Hopper were not in wartime. There is also no evidence they were forced into the field either.

    Double standards.

No quotation "...women are unfit for jobs in technology ..". It is not the work but the conclusion that is offensive. THe fact so many were upset at this bothers me greatly.

My exgf ran out of IT and got a job in nursing. Not because she is biologically inferior to us males and loves nurturing, but because her team were assholes and her boss said she was never going to be promoted because she was a girl. Fuck that and I do not blame her for giving the finger and leaving. She had the best stats on her team and a male got promoted instead.

My exwife has a degree in mathematics and loves calculus. She is more than capable of having a job in engineering or technology. I have former coworkers who were in I.T. and female who told the shit they went through. One now owns her own company as she got tired of politics and this was her only way out.

I read also in artstechnica that bell labs back in the 1980s hired very smart people. True. Computer scientists got invited to work on Unix, C, AI, or with telecom switching technologies. The women with the PHDs? They were hired as the secretaries and assistants to the real boys etc. If Dennis Ritchie was born a girl she would be serving coffee and answering calls for Ken Thompson. Not co-writting C. Insulting? You bet.

I have no problem at all with the writings. Just the conclusion. Woman and men are more alike in lots of ways. Transgendered women after taking estrogen for several months can grow the exact same brain structures as biological women as well according to MRI. So emotional, needs, communication, and also eye hand cordination are the really only differences. As evident with hormone therapy.

There are actually few men and women that can assert their leadership without sounding stupid, or being assholes or bitches. You're making generalizations by saying women are all considered that way, it's just that the majority of people in higher positions tend to be that way.

About a month ago I read an article about a computer in an office breaking where 2 coworkers shared a PC until it was fixed.

The boss signed in with a female owned PC which had her sig in Outlook. People questioned his authority and were rude and were dicks where he had to prove he knew what the hell he was talking about. He was complexed and then figured it out.

As an experiment when his PC was restored and fixed she signed into his PC and used his sig. All of the sudden her job was 1000% easier and people right away didn't question her and assumed she knew what she was talking about.

When he was more demanding on why the customer immediately wanted to talk to her manager. While under the other profile the customers agree to talk on the phone etc.

He was shocked how sexist and different it was. Also my exgf started her career repairing fiber optic cable and did some networking. She was denied a promotion because she was a girl according to her manager. She quit and got into nursing. She was an intelligent an analytical woman but if she were born a man things would be different. So yes after speaking with women I am on their side on this.

Whether they think different or not does not mean one is inferior at all. Just because they are more nurturing and emotional doesn't mean they lack the intelligence or skills to perform the position and dictating this to women who work over at Google would boil my blood if I were born a woman.

More transistors due jack with the x86 which is why INtel and AMD are trying cores. Intel gave up on this as they are afraid once people upgrade to a faster CPU they won't upgrade again. They had an internal 80 core x86 for graphics but cancelled it to preserve sales since they no longer have competition.

AMD may put this back as finally a $3000 desktop can compete with a cell phone (my Nexus 6P has more cores than the i7 I am typing this on which is ridiculous )

It's important not to conflate average numbers on Steam versus what your game's particular demographic tends to use. When you say "Steam gamers", for instance, that's pretty much meaningless, as it's just an average across a *very* wide swath of gamers and gaming hardware.

The latest AAA games will not simply not run well on a dual core laptop with 4GB of RAM and an integrated Intel GPU. The target audience for those types of games tends to be someone who has a moderately powerful desktop machine or a *very* beefy laptop. Those machines are likely to have 4 cores and eight hardware threads at *minimum*. So, threading optimization is obviously very much worthwhile for these types of games.

Now that I've gone indie (I left my professional job about four years ago), my own game's target hardware is much more modest. So, in that case, I don't have to put in the same degree of optimization effort in my own engine as large studios do, since I'm a one man studio and can't put in the resources they do. There are plenty of older or lightweight indie games that those WalMart laptops will run just fine.

In short, it really all depends on your game's minimum requirements and intended target audience.

Cool thanks for answering my question. Curious if you own an AMD ryzen for your work or plan too if you do not mind me asking :-)

I want AMD to succeed and wish they had better gaming performance for IPC per core. But hey for running Vms at my job they are great lol.

I seem to have had this discussion about just about everything in computing since the mid 1990s, the difference being most people found a situation where more than a single thread worked. You've given some examples yourself about multi-threading.
I know that games are pretty well all about state but that doesn't mean some tasks can't be done with in parallel. You mentioned physics - consider how that's simulated in the numerical computing world and how some game engines are dealing with it in a similar way. Many problems in a simulation do seem to be highly parallel if more than a tiny area is modelled.

Did you just read his post? He is a game developer. What I wonder and perhaps grand parent could answer is if the problem is also not difficulty but rather most gamers still used 2 core cpus just 18 months ago on Steam survey? If some still have core2dio and cheap AMD dualcore Walmart special laptops to i5's then is it economical to parallel painstakingly code anyway?
