Wow, you're really easy to insult! I would say it's insulting to just assume that everybody is lazy rather than try to think of why the task might be just too hard. When software is still released buggy, when as an industry we still haven't worked out how to 'over-engineer' for safety without still throwing up catastrophic security holes or system crashes in important systems, when games are written by over-worked programmers in crunch mode for months on end... the whole industry is still horribly immature. But sure, it's laziness.
The world needs hundreds of thousands of programmers, and they're not all going to be at your level. The process of making software needs to be resilient enough to handle them, you can't simply wish everyone was as proficient because they're never going to be.
It was a little be-littling. But back to you? Why should a game developer waist his time with the CEO of Rockstar games want the unfinished piece of crap shipped before Christmas whether it is finish or not waste time optimizing for what 1% of gamers have?
According to Steam majority still had 2 core cpus until 18 months ago thanks to the core2duos and cheap crappy laptops parents but their kids. Today it is now just approaching 4 core with no hyper-threads. Sure Linus Tech Tips and Gamers Nexus on youtube all show i7s maxed out with 1080TIs in SLI in RGB goodness glory! But majority of gamers just got an i5 in the last year and a half!
So keep it to 2+ threads is what 85% gamers use so why bother?
The K series of both the i5 and i7 will have 2 more cores so i5 8670K will have 6 cores and the i7 8770k will have 8 to match Ryzen. Another rumor is the i5 series will now have hyperthreading so the i5 will still have 4 cores with the exception of the K with 6 but will be hyperthreaded.
These are just rumors. But it would make sense if INtel had to quickly double the cores that the die and pins would change. Of course this would double the cost of CPU production with 2 sizes?
Coffeelake got shaken up by AMD Ryzen. Intel freaking out is loading more cores on their CPUs as the newer i7s will go from 4 cores 4 threads to 8 cores 16 threads. The newer i5s are rumored to go from 4 cores to 4 to 8 cores with no hyperthreading.
My guess is Intel quickly glued 2 CPUs together like they did with the i9 and now the socket has doubled in size:-)
A nice shiny expensive new mac will get the job done just as well as your previous computer. Sure no ulterior motives there.
As moores law comes to an end technology companies need new ways to invent sales. One is renting software. The other is making standards require more expensive versions of their products
So now it looks like they want to emulate Edge? Guess what? Edge is declining marketshare as people migrate to 10. No one wants it or care about cortona or MS pen and OneNote integration. At least folks wanted Chrome
Given the impressive hardware specs, I suspect this is largely driver issues.
But there is no way I would pay those asking prices until the performance nudged up.
Maybe these will be decent cards in 2-3 months, but I wouldn't pay for a "maybe".
That's the issue with AMD cards. Maybe it's Async compute slowing things down? Or like another poster said maybe it is just a bad chip similiar to Bulldozer? An RX 470 has the same specs as a 1070 in terms of math! Look it up? However, gaming performance is drastically different. WIth async optimized titles like Due Ex mankind divided it can get kind of close an GTX 1070. Other than that no just like bulldozer if you maxed out 100% of all cores would get close to an i5/i7 in performance but that is rare outside of benchmarks
Vega 56 is in the same spot regarding the 1070 if not a bit ahead, with the same narrow frameband. It's true that the MSRPs for the base 1070s are lower by 20 bucks, but the memory bandwidth makes it good for currency mining and thus actual prices are 100 dollars higher.
Thats not good enough. IT has to be the best or gamers will shun the brand. Why do you think the 1050TI sells like hotcakes over the 200% faster RX 470 for just $40 more?
It is because it is an Nvidia. THat is why. Besides the last month before prices skyrocketed I saw a guy pick up the shitty 1050ti and I mentioned that rx 470 was double the performance. He got mad and said games are meant to be played on Nvidia. It can't possible match this etc.
No thank you. Hell, even the 1060 is about as fast in 4 Honor!!
Face it AMD is done. They killed what was mediocre of ATI at the turn of the decade and never recovered. Drivers are shitty and it reaks of a cheap quality knock off. Not saying this as a troll, but realistically if you ask any ATI/AMD users where Nvidia drivers are uncrashable and just work at launch.
Nope. That doesn't give them enough money to raise their shareprice.
What net neutrality is if they want to double dip and charge both the consumers and the content providers twice and keep the difference and give the CEO
Or the NSA has made a deal. We promise not to throttle your traffic under the condition you spy on your customers for us? You scratch our back and we scratch yours etc
Chicken and the egg. According to Collins book "Good to Great" a shakeup is necessary to turn around a shitty organization. A good organization run right with competent management and a vision with processes doesn't need to rock the boat.
What makes them great is not that they do not fire. It is that they have a cult like atmosphere and have a well greased machine running.
A poorly run organization who turns into a great one in that MBA book I mentioned first changed direction from the top down and gave a "This bus is now going to a new destination. Either you can get on the bus or get off? Your pick". The people who hate change and whine all the time and bring morale down will fight tooth and nail and be fired. Morale is then improved and new talent comes in mixed with those on this new direction.
Before you know it you have a great organization and less firing as those who are there want to be there and are competent and going with the plan. I think Kelly will bring discipline and leadership with his NO BS foot down from the infighting and unprofessionalism imitated by the President himself. This new chain of command he wants to run like the military so people won't go around superiors and talk directly to the president which is what the White House is now.
Well an old despair.com poster once stated "Morale: often the best solution is to fire all the unhappy people". Sadly and with a sense of irony it correct.
It is not a character flow if you need to do a turn around. It's appropriate. All the time shows not a character flow but rather under paying and inappropriately managed.
A famous MBA book called Good To Great companies that have did an amazing turn around and compare them it a competitor which was the former market leader.
Basically it boiled down to a CEO saying THIS IS BULLSHIT! We need a change with his senior executives. They implement a turn around and give a "Bus is moving in a new direction. Either get on the bus or get off?". The gray hairs who while and others who do pissing contests are fired. Morale is improved and direction changes. Then company takes bigger competitor down and wins!
Trump is inappropriate and unprofessional. This caused his staff to do the same and in fight. Gen Kelly is a no nonsense guy who wants discipline and teamwork. Yes firings should continue and staff should report to him. Not Trump since he won't change. When change needs happening it's best to use those who are not so disgruntled they can't get unboard.
Oh and those fired from such positions almost always are happier. It serves no one good to keep bitter angry people who cause problems and not solutions
Well you recommend sticking with IE 6 when this clients call center agents need to go on the live internet to fedex.com and UPS.com to check package tracking?:-)
I think they dropped IE 6 support some 4 years ago.
It is not about hiding hardware in a level of abstraction. It is you need a modern secure environment and an ancient unsupported one working together and have requirements for HIPAA to keep data secure. You can't do that with XP even if we did hack it to run on modern hardware it has no patches so it would fail audit. Like I said IMB 360 mainframe software 40 to 50 years old is still run on banks, insurance companies, and airlines. This can't be run on a modern mainframe without emulation and virtualization PERIOD.
I want a FreeBSD based stable OS with the GUI and ease of use of Ubuntu of 2006 with compviz and the app and development ecosystem of Windows.
NetBSD would be better;) But, I do admit the Ubuntu circa 2006-2011 or so were pretty easy, but why not go with Mint as of 2014 or 2015? I never used compviz, so can't comment.
Regarding the app and development ecosystem of windows? Are you kidding me? The apps are generally terrible, the development ecosystem seriously blows donkey turds. And yes, I have done windows system development recently enough to have a real opinion about how badly the entire windows system sucks, internally. I don't believe win10 made any improvements.
If they DOJ split MS we would have a cool office suite, SharePoint, visual studio and cloud services on all platforms. Oddly the new MS is moving in this direction as it cares about clouds azure and software rentals. But the Windows kernel is not bad today and like what vs code and visual studio are today.
MS Office sucks ass. Always has. It didn't "win" because it was best. It won because MS leveraged their OS monopoly to kill all competition.
Sharepoint, let me count the ways it sucks. You can start with having to write code for every little function and....never mind, I'll never finish this post.
The windows kernel is a pile of moldy swiss cheese as far as security goes. It's a fundamental failure at the base architectural level. I don't expect this to ever get fixed until the kernel is replaced.
While Visual Studio is sucky, so is Xcode. Android Studio isn't absolutely terrible, I'm still getting used to it. Eclipse works pretty well for what I use it for, IntelliJ seems adequate as well, I just don't prefer it (No choice with Android Studio, obviously) There's a host of other IDEs I've used in the past, all are pretty much subsets of VS/Xcode functionality, with some being significantly less capable.
Exactly they all suck in their own little ways:-)
As old farts as we are you can whine about Microsoft Office but I do not see much is better these days. It won for a reason. Sure WordPerfect was better and some law firms stuck around with it and a few enterprises used Lotus Notes over Exchange because it was better at the time. However, overall with Excel and PowerPoint and Outlook with the PHB must have free/busy and conference room availability it won. Libreoffice is plain ugly and the included spreadsheet program is no Excel. It reminds me of office 97. Actually, I think Microsoft has a history of making mediocre operating systems or buying them I should say. But make decent developer tools and office productivity programs. That is their strength.
You may hate me but I am getting used to Office 365 with SharePoint, Dwelve, Dynamics, teams, and bookings besides the standard office suite it includes. They are web based so check them out? I disagree with Eclipse. But if I had a gun to my head and had to choose Apple or Windows. I would pick Windows in a heart beat.
The good news is Microsoft is going pro opensource and multiplatform now as people are moving to mobile and clouds and do not care about Windows like they once did. It is a different company now as Gates and Balmer have both left and competition changed them
Basically IPV6 and end to end encryption. Sorry ISPs you do not get a say anymore.
Needs more than just that.
A new internet needs to be decentralized and anonymous to the point that nobody except participants can tell who had a conversation with whom. If the government decides A is bad and they know you talked to A or did a DNS lookup for A's website, then it doesn't matter if the channel was encrypted - they can beat whatever info they want out of you.
At the same time, a new internet needs to be able to absolutely prove (if and only if you want) that you are you and whoever you are talking to is who they say they are.
Maybe there are protocols out there right now that can do these things without too much hassle?
Sure all encrypted with the NSA owning the private keys for them all. Hell, I but the FBI or NSA will takeover ICANNs responsibility too and register all the DNS. After all think about the children and what do you have to hide etc?
No thanks as today the ISPs and government will collude with each other at our own expense
Well Barbara I left the I.T. field for awhile when the last recession was hard.
I had to move in with my parents and work useless craigslist gigs and make shit at temp agencies to prove to HR I was employable first for 2 years. Then I started to recover. You got to start somewhere and the world is a very cruel place. Especially in the workplace.
The only way for you to give the finger to HR is to have them fight for you based on your skills. If you have no experience HR will treat you like crap and not even talk to you if you are not worthy of your time.
I assume too due to prejudice as a trans gendered individual too your experience is the only way HR and managers give you the light of day too sadly. Without this you are screwed
I HATE HR like most of us. First off I think this study is full a crap.
HR wants: 1. Experience only at work (not at school or as a hobby) as Taleo or talent acquisition software will delete it off their shitty ATS application software where your application is deleted if you do not have this 2. In interviews again experience only in work in an office or you == McDonalds worker in terms of knowledge for the job. It is impossible to learn at home or a university where we are exposed to PC troubleshooting in Computer Science degrees (sarcasm meter on last sentence) 3. No gaps in related work field as this means you must have been fired and a trouble maker 4. No references is dead water as it means you are a bad employee then as you are hiding something.
An internship or some useless job in an office that pays little is the only way you can get past HR and the Taleo system that filters out applicants. How else are you going to get that reference, close the gap, and gain experience you can use for bullet points in SEO that recruiters use?
Also, Flash being moribund is kind of a blessing here -- a game from 2010 or 2005 is pretty unlikely to use an exploit announced in 2017.
No but the runtime will. Also cheap developers in 3rd world outsourced countries maybe more familiar with flash and will keep using it rather than learn HTML 5 for clients in the 1st world. Only when marketshare declines will they learn and use something different.
Hell if corporations had their way we all would still be using XP, VBScript, and IE 6 as everyone had it at one time and everyone know how to do it... well debatable with IE 6 rendering bugs:-)
Shoot my last job we supported several client environments. 2 out of 7 we had USED IE 6 as late as early 2017 we used IE 6... with one running in quirks IE 5.5/Netscape 4.7 mode for their mission critical apps!
You would think they would upgrade? I asked one of their project managers and mentioned I used a script debugger and saw copyright 1999 all over the place. She laughed and said yep that sounds about right. It is too important to leave. We have millions upon millions of.HTA and VBScript which holds it together.
Thanksfully they were smart to DMZ the hell in a private locked down VLAN and run it off of a Citrix WIndows 2000 VM and it can't leave that intranet.
Same is true with COBOL and legacy java and XP apps. Python 2 will be moved to an old legacy VM in citrix or VMWare locked down tight to just do it;s job running obsolete code. Shoot IBM 360 mainframe COBOL is still run in an emulator inside another emulator in a VM on modern IBM mainframes for banks and airlines as you all read this. JPMorgan lost the source code sometime in the 1970's and it is too import to ever upgrade.
That is insulting.
Wow, you're really easy to insult! I would say it's insulting to just assume that everybody is lazy rather than try to think of why the task might be just too hard. Intel rocks for gaming. They make faster CPUs per core by a good margin still as not everything can be run in parallel
My guess is Intel quickly glued 2 CPUs together like they did with the i9 and now the socket has doubled in size :-)
Ironically, patents are what killed gif and tif. The industry back then avoided patents rather than wanting to join them.
Tif is expired now so if you have Windows 10 you can enable support in add or remove features?
This move is coloboration to pick shitty tech to increase sales. Needing new Macs and shiny new phones help Apple and Samsung greatly!
I keep clicking cancel on window boxes when I use Ubuntu due to being familiar with Windows.
This is a big turn off for alot of users hwo keep closing Windows dialog boxes
Because it's what everyone else uses.
Unless you can trick smart phones with h.265 acceleration built inside it to look smooth and not smoother battery life then you be my guest?
A nice shiny expensive new mac will get the job done just as well as your previous computer. Sure no ulterior motives there.
As moores law comes to an end technology companies need new ways to invent sales. One is renting software. The other is making standards require more expensive versions of their products
Ok. Name one politician to vote for who cares? Trump and Hillary are both pro h1b1 visa.
Why shouldn't an employer hire someone cheaper? Isn't that the point of business? Raise profits and cut expenses is what creates jobs and an economy.
Who is the real greedy one?
So now it looks like they want to emulate Edge? Guess what? Edge is declining marketshare as people migrate to 10. No one wants it or care about cortona or MS pen and OneNote integration. At least folks wanted Chrome
