Uhm, not in the UK it isn't - there are no laws forbidding you from photographing or videoing the police while on duty....
Members of the public and the media do not need a permit to film or photograph in public places and police have no power to stop them filming or photographing incidents or police personnel.
Why is this exactly in Your Rights Online? Are/.ers so afraid of entering their ZIP code anywhere?
Some people believe that broadband is a right. At the very least, it is a sign that we're not an undeveloped nation. Access to communication can help citizens become more informed and involved (whether it actually does is another question). Unfortunately, many people across the US have limited or no options. I'm one of those people with only one option.
Try reading that again.
"There are thought to be 50 billion exoplanets, 500 million of which are probably orbiting within their stars' habitable zones."
I can imagine a couple reasons why BitTorrent might be throttled. First, I'd bet BitTorrent users are sending and receiving a lot more traffic than the average user.... If BitTorrent users want faster speeds, I'd recommend finding ways to make the BitTorrent landscape less populated by illegal warez.... But, until that happens, I really don't care if ISP throttle or cut BitTorrent traffic entirely....
Or perhaps ISPs should actually provide the bandwidth that they advertise (not to mention "unlimited" data transfer)?
Thanks for explaining, I missed the joke at first.
On a related topic, there already exist controllers that use brain impulses. How is this situation special? I'm assuming it's already possible to make cars completely using digital logic inputs to replace mechanical functions, if you had a car like that, you could just hack a game controller into the car.
I'm not disputing that there was a significant amount of deaths, but I do take offense when people say "facts" so confidently, but can't be bothered to spend 10 seconds looking it up. The reliable sources say around 100,000 deaths. The only figures that are greater than a half million were found by surveying people on "whether they knew someone who died", while the ~100,000 death figures are based on actual records which also take into account unreported deaths.
You could say the same thing about any crime. As soon as someone is accused, the media and their masses start churning up a storm. And anyway if someone is convicted, I don't see why we bother ever letting them out of prison, since they're treated worse than second class citizens anyway.
Your situation says nothing. The study doesn't show "You have anxiety iff (for the uninitiated, read: 'if and only if') you have a large number of Facebook friends". But I guess it's been discussed a million times on slashdot about anecdotes and interpreting studies and nothings going to change.
"I was just following orders" is supposedly no excuse for committing a crime, but the people who wrote the orders are definitely not exempt either. Julian Assange, Wikileaks, et al. may be liable, that is if they actually gave the orders.
I wonder how many overpaid staff members it takes to come up with acronyms for all these bills. If we got rid of them, we could probably cut the deficit in half.
I don't know if it was pedantic. From my understanding, GP was pointing out that as long as the guy doesn't try to make money off of his sequence, he can't be sued. If it was copyrighted, they could sue him for thousands of times its actual value e.g. p2p.
I think you mean "inadvertently".
It's always too soon to be making puns.

Which makes it even worse that people are routinely arrested for it. What was your point again?
Yeah, you caught that one; but actually, W = watt. You're supposed to make it lowercase when you spell it out.

C++ came out on top
Actually, JavaScript, C++, and Ruby came out on top. The difference between them is virtually indistinguishable (error bars anyone?).
Just for research purposes, pleases state your address and schedule.
What happened to golden days of slashdot where you could feign reading TFA by instead reading TFS?

Why bother arguing real points when you can tear down strawmen? Are you forgetting where we are?
Freedom means you're allowed to do something "more than a bit strange". If he didn't commit any crimes, than what's the problem?
The same as the fourth root of tomato.

If you reread his post, he talks about the party controlling the senate and the house. That means he's referring to the Democrats and Republicans.

Seems like old news.
What's to stop people from claiming the robot landing was faked?

Those seem subjective to me. In that case the decision would be left up to the judges. I can imagine how well that would turn out.
Who thinks that? Maybe they think the parts that grants rights only applies to citizens, but it specifically states limitations of the government. "No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed." You can't get much clearer.
Interesting proposition, especially considering that we bond fluoride with our teeth using toothpaste and other methods.
