with a cloud service the manager gets, at least in the best case:
- An SLA
- feature or service is quickly in production
- cost can easily be lower than in house IT, at least for small companies
- no grumpy IT employee to deal with
- can redirect grumpy users to the cloud support center
- when the service fails, the manager can say "not my fault" and "I already called hotline in the cloud"
- etc...
I've got 100MB of email quota with my "IT managed" email. I really wish we would switch to the cloud and I can get a few gigabytes of email quota.
Chrome changes version number every month
So Firefox now changes version number several times a year
then Thunderbird skips a version number
What's the next step, Gnome skips from version 4 to version 10 in one month?
Come on, don't start blaming the next French socialist party failure on DSK's arrest.
DSK already thinks his dick is almighty, please don't emphasize its importance.
Back around 1980 you had to be lucky to have ONE computer in your school.
You had to be lucky to know there was one.
You had to be lucky they let you use it.
You had to be lucky it had a programming language installed, and documentation was available.
Today a computer costs less than 50 hours of work in a McDonald.
You can install Eclipse on it for free and access any programming language you like.
You have access to lots of on-line resources, including on line manuals and Wikipedia.
You have forums to ask questions when you don't have a clue.
Bottom line, is (at least in rich countries), kids get no excuse if they fail at computer programming, wether their teacher is good or not!
you may get bad grades at school, but if you can't program before you're out of school, then programming is not for you.
imagine for a second that music becomes public domain when you die. What do you think the consequences would be?
imagine you also do this for any intellectual property.
I can bet there would be murder in the air!!!
the iphone 4 simcard is a problem already. Suppose you broke your phone screen and find it ridiculous to pay 700 $ or euros to get a new one.
Then you want to switch back to your old iphone 3GS before the iphone 5 comes out and your current contract ends.
Or you want to put the sim card in your company's blackberry for a while.
But it won't work because of the sim card. I know some operators will sell you a replacement sim card, but still you get the idea.
Also, when I buy a new phone, and want to have the possibility to hand the older iphone to a family member. And that's not possible ecause they don't have the right sim, even if they're with the right operator.
Frankly, I don't care at all about the few cubic milimeters that can be spared with smaller sims
Netscape presented the idea of an IP address for every bulb in a round table presentation I attended in 1995.
As for me, I understand the idea of a MAC address for every light socket, but an IP address for a light bulb...
Probably that's the benefit of IP V6
Anyway, let's see first the benefits of networking light bulbs, and also the costs.
Right now I'm happy with my dumb light bulbs. Even the incandescent ones, so networked bulbs will have to offer me something more...
The iphone 3g has 128MB of ram only. It's just like a 512MB windows XP that you should not upgrade to windows 7!
I got an iphone 3G with iOs 2 on it, and upgraded it up to the latest 3.x.
Since it has 25% of the ram of an iphone 4, it was obvious back last summer that it was a bad idea to upgrade it to 4.x, so it stays on 3.x until it dies.
On the other hand, I bought a Samsung Naos phone about 6 month ago to try Android. It runs Android 2.1. And I still can't officially run 2.2, 2.3 or 3.0 on it!...
Have you ever heard some say he's ugly?
On the other hand, I remember overhearing someone talking in the cafeteria at my office, saying she did the IQ test that was aired on TV the day before, and how inaccurate it is. She said she got a result of 70, so it must be wrong.
Well, no one argued, but once she was gone, we all had a good laugh !...
the interesting thing when you ask someone who found the solution to an IQ question that you did not find is this:
When he explains how he got the answer, you say "damned, it was easy"
For example, if the question is:
how much is: 23234+34696+63453
213579, 121383, 121397, 121375, or 122435
the "high IQ guy" will compute 4+6+3=3, then pick 121383 as the right answer because it's the only one ending with a 3
And then, if you did not find the answer, now you feel really stupid
You can still use it, I understand it won't get security patches, so after a few months it will become a very easy target for viruses. And then your only solutions become:
- dump the pc
- upgrade to a supported version
This applies to any OS, including Linux. The difference is that upgrading Linux is in most cases a no-brainer, plus it's free for most cases.
One thing is for sure, Microsoft will have a great financial year with the announcement of XP end of life!
On the other hand, I'm not too happy to have to pay to buy Vista or Windows 7 for my daughter's laptop. It was working perfectly under XP, and will probably run as crap under windows 7.
Maybe Fedora 15 or ubuntu LTS will be the solution. She's already using Firefox and Open Office, so...
That laptop hardware is close to it's end of life, but at 1GB, I want to use it a bit more before dumping it.
look no further then, in France the thumbs are called fingers too (doigt). So we say we have "10 fingers, including 2 thumbs".
We do have 2 legs and 2 arms like everyone else though;)
oh, and you got me looking through wikipedia on the subject, and it seems we're both right:

I second Anonymous Coward and msobkow, this is China taking IP seriously.
Whatever their motivation is.
absolutely, plus it can compete with Microsoft Silverlight

the batteries leaked again!
Sounds to me like the proficient ones ranting against the hard working ones.
nothing new here!

with California earthquakes, that'll be fun!!!
At which time it will be returned because we failed to include sufficient postage.
And we would receive the answer in 2050. I plan to have "alzheimer's disease" by then, so ...

antennae is a biology term. learntospell = 10 points
sadly, Gnome 3 is going in the same direction as Windows 7, i.e. window manager for dummies. I've already partly switched to Gnome 3 ...
They call themselves "People's Republic of China"...

that's why patents expire!
