The only thing I buy from Microsoft is hardware - really good quality peripherals implementing standard interfaces so they run out of the box on any of my Linux machines.
That wouldn't explain why the counterfeit Cisco gear sucks so badly or why there are some parts and technological differences from the genuine stuff.
I work in telephony and when customer's DSPs fail the first quesion is if their stuff is genuine. We don't offer support until they replace them. They should have been smart enough to figure out an offer too good to be true probably isn't.
Sending false data is impossible for anything but cheap junk receivers.

Did you encounter at least one machine that does "two way fax"? Apart from sending the station ID all machines I've ever seen send pages in just one direction. On many fax+phone machines you can't even send pages in the opposite direction of the call like it happens if you dial a document retrieval service.
These days faxes rarely travel end-to-end, in many cases they encounter media gateways that convert analog T.30 fax to T.38 and back. That's a place where station ID and page content can be easily modified - it's in digital format with checksums removed.

RHEL and CentOS have so utterly out-of-date packages that many pieces of recent software can't even be compiled without updating the kernel or glibc. I have converted many of my customers to Mandriva after they banged their heads against their precioussss CentOS or Debian.
On the other hand I use Mandrake / Mandriva since 2004 for everything except embedded systems smaller than my hand.
I guess the lack of Neanderthal mDNA shows that the chances of a male H. Neanderthal mating with a female H. Sapiens were much higher than the opposite. Anyone surprised?

You obviously don't work in the VoIP business and you have no idea how hackish the connectivity of Skype is to make it work almost reliable and with minimum costs (for the company).
The real evil genius is to detect and use other users' better Internet connectivity to act as media relay servers for the majority of home users that think being able to browse the Web means to have Internet connectivity.
Central servers are a good reason NOT to use IAX. It has this design problem - signaling and data are associated over a single pair of UDP sockets.
SIP, Jingle, even H.323 all use RTP for media so the data is decoupled from signaling. This allows P2P transfer of high volume audio and video data. Various techniques exist to pass through a firewall and alternative transports can be used if needed, especially in Jingle which is more flexible.
Now, if everybody would agree on a reasonable minimum set of transports and codecs there would be no need of Skype at all...

Most of the exo-planets discovered so far have been via the transiting method (this is what Kelper uses).
Uranus was discovered due to unexplained perturbations in the orbits of the other outer planets. So, not "unprecedented" for our solar system.

Actually the Google Voice (former Grand Central) core switch is Yate with a special call control module that interface with the business logic.
