www.commandlinefu.com - Some more shameless advertising for a site I have nothing to do with apart from frequenting quite often!
Probably one of the cooler tricks I saw the other day was being able to ssh into a remote box and push the signal from your pc mic onto the remote machines speakers and vice versa!
Most modern music is brick-walled these days anyway. Loudness is winning over dynamic. Half of the reason I find vinyl more pleasing is because it's usually mastered with a lot taken off the limiter.
The ACA probably still has requirements for a fixed copper line to be present at every household to ensure people can dial 000(emergency) - especially since fibre has not been tested enough in various situations like floods, fires, storms etc. This makes perfect sense to me.
You're spot on about today's Sound Cards. I still have a plethora of sound cards some 10 or 12 years old that leave today's sound cards for dead. My digidesign 001 interface which I got in 2000 (best excuse for a personal loan EVER!) still leaves pretty much any consumer grade sound card from today for dead, at least in terms of snr.
Can someone please explain to me what SAP does that a well coded PHP (or any language) application cannot do?? I worked for a company that used to use SAP and I really don't understand what is so special.
It's not a rehtorical question, I honestly want to know what the advantage is of paying an expensive SAP developer over a cheaper PHP, JAVA or Whatever developer? a lot of SAP applications I've seen in action, I can honestly say I could've created the same thing in PHP or Java quite easily.
I've got an old 19in CRT, p2 450 and an old game cabinet that I want to put to good use. Using an FOSS version of Windows instead of messing with WINE is quite attractive to me, especially for the games that won't run in FreeDOS!
I live in Thailand and ever since the floods, it has been used as an excuse to keep prices up. Examples of this would be beer, eggs, maama (think instant noodles) and also Hard Drives!
If you've ever lived here, you know people try to outsmart everyone and an example of this would be claiming shortages of hard drives is keep prices high even known their supply chain in Ayuthaya (where most of this shit comes from) has been bone dry and their factories operating at capacity for at least 6 - 8 weeks.
Mind you, when I go to my IT Square near where I live, only a few days ago Hard Drive prices are relatively back to normal, yet overseas, are still super expensive compared to normal. Also Nikon cameras and glass are normal prices here (most DX DSLR's and glass are made in Ayuthaya) and again OS it's still more expensive than normal.
Intel should be relying on an unlocked bootloader so people can decide what they want instead of having Win8/ICS/Other rammed down their throats! They just might find that people having a choice might result in increased hardware sales.
This sounds like more of a case of social engineering rather than hacking.
I am pretty sure their Systems Analysts and Programmers will cop most of the shit that is coming for what I predict is some stupid emplyees fault. "Yes, what can I do for you Jo?"
It's the Linux man's Linux. I have so much love for Arch and to be honest, the lack of package signing has never been an issue. But nonetheless, a welcomed addition!
Moreover, I haven't really heard of too many people complaining about the lack of Package Signing when it comes to Arch Linux, usually it's the fact that after you install, you are pretty much presented with BASH, and that's it!
And it's free. Does Captive Portal with ease and runs on almost anything, so long as it has 2 Ethernet cards. Runs on top of BSD and uses the pf routing module. Uses a web interface to set up.
I have an office with 40 PC's being served by an P3 something with 512mb ram running PfSense with 3 network cards (balancing dual ADSL2 connections) and a gigbit out to the switch and it works a treat and never dies. It's a sinch to setup and I also have setup captive portal and again, it is DEAD EASY.
Oh, and don't be detered by the BSD logo (Beastie!) since I am pretty sure the fella has nothing against Christianity as he is, you know, a cartoon! As for me, whatever floats your boat I say...
Why? If I were to guess, I'd say MS would lose a lazy 10 - 20% of their server market share once 2k3/2k7 support runs out. Why? Because that 10 or 20% of admins learnt MS because they didn't want to deal with CLI in the first place. If I were one of these people, I'd jump in the deep end and learn *nix instead.
This is a good one. I've really got to start playing with the config file in ~/.ssh/ more often. What a thrilling life I lead!

Lot's of fun was had in our office that day!

We'll see how well it works when you have pits full of water.
With POTS, at least it has a chance to decay and fall over gracefully as opposed to fiber where it's either working or not.
You won't see legislation change until fiber has had a run in all environments. We don't want this http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/06/24/1056449242446.html happening again.

I had no intention of running Win8 on my RasberryPi anyway!

/d'ed!
You have just discovered a gaping hole in the market for non UEFI hardware!
You say that like it's a bad thing!

Yep, I can see it now! In 5 years time, me, with a beat up trailer, cruising the burbs picking up free LCD displays before the rain hits!!!

I could be wrong, but that's my take.
I should rephrase, the lack of Package Signing has not been an issue to me, not in general. Sorry if I confused anyone. Now carry on...

Okay, so I will keep an eye out for anyone who looks like the Comic Store Guy wheeling a trolley full of copper.
Just send 20'000vac through that outer sleeve, that would act as a great deterrent!
Ooooo, thanks for the tip!
But enforcing laws on bad security should reign supreme on the likes of SOPA and friends.

Mod up. You made me LOL!
