I agree with your post completely gorfie and also wonder what is going to happen immediately after the election - I also am in a great job right now and do not forsee a change if either GW stays in or Kerry. I am more worried about how Kerry is perceived by foreign interests relative to Terror and national security. I personally don't believe he is a strong enough president. BTW moderator how is my original post a flame ? do you honestly think that we would be in a Utopia if Gore had been elected ????

back when GW won his election I knew he was going to get hosed - the economy was already in a tailspin and he would take the fall for 8 years of Clinton, Enron, dot coms etc etc etc. Wake up folks and ignore the spin - NO president can really make much of a difference in the economy in 4 years - The economy will eventually recover regardless of who is in office !
This story sucks - all it does is make us go against each other - The story had barely enough content to make it a Slashdot story at all. Please refrain from posting this crap in the future or I will trade in my Karma and leave.....
The problem with using a cell phone in the air is that they see too many cell towers and the power mangement stuff which is critical for bandwidth and channel control and de-confliction does not work as well - in a terrestrial situation the phone hardly ever sees more than a handful of possible cellular base stations - but up in the air it will see a bunch - the scheme mentioned in the artical is one of wat to solve the problem. One thing that does decrease with alititude is multipath problems.
NOBODY expects the Microsoft Inquisition! Our chief weapon is suprise... surprise and fear... fear and surprise... Our two weapons are fear and surprise... and ruthless efficiency... Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Gates... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons... Amongst our weaponry... are such elements as fear, surprise...
I really doubt it... Do we pack up all operations in California every time there is an earthquake ? Hurricanes have been hitting the eastern seaboard and Florida for thousands of years - the Indians never left, the colonist never left, people still live in South Florida post Andrew, Nasa and CCAFS will still launch rockets from the cape after this hurricane. I live in Titusville right directly accross from the VAB and use to work at CCAFS and I can tell you that the facilites are very, VERY well constructed - the engineers who designed those buildings were thinking about hurricanes (and direct impacts from errant rockets).
Even if sidewalk artists and hopscotch gamers also use chalk that's where the similarity ends - I know that where I live there are laws that you can't put political signs up just anywhere (thank heavens), Its bad enough that I am getting constantly assaulted by political advertisements on TV and radio, the last thing I want is my streets and sidewalks covered with that spew as well. Its a neat gizmo, but the political bents stinks. Oh and I am Dolphinzilla and I approve this message.....
I just returned from a trip to the Middle East via commercial airlines - I was seached more times than I can recall, and I must have shown my passport to at least a dozen folks - the really stupid thing is that the people checking the passports are just going through the motions anyway - not one person actually compared the passport photo to my own face (which is an older photo and I had a beard then). I think that the collective airline security is in a ridiculous state - I doubt they could actually catch someone trying to do wrong without prior knowledge.
Does the practices of a single franchise represent the entire chain? Of Course not - but hopefully the the corporate parent can exert pressure on the franchise store to make it right with the customer - At the very least the EB Games Corporate Headquarters may decide to reimburse the abused customer to promote goodwill and hoepfully they would talk to the franchise owner about how to better manage the EB franchise and prevent this from happening again.
Do what I just did, write an e-mail to EB Games and inform them that you find their business practices unsavory and won't give them any future business. I think in this case the consumer may be able to make more of an impact on this situation than the local law enforcement.
The theif admitted that he went to EB because they don't do any check on the goods and don't ask questions, In my estimation this amounts to a fencing operation posing as a reputable business. I hope the local law enforcement stings them.
Being a true EE geek I have built a dozen or so various Tesla coils in my life (from a paltry 60,000 volt unit up to a 250,000 volt baby) these units would light up a flourescent tube with ease from 10 to 20 foot away - I have also lit tubes in front of very high power x-band radars (kids DO NOT try at home) - The basic prinicples and physics are the same for high tension power lines although the frequencies involved are lower. So yes, I do know what I am talking about....
Your correct - the tubes light because the electric field excites mercury ions inside the tube - AND energy that the tubes use is NOT free, the tubes with their little pins all sticking in the air create lower impedance paths to ground for the energy in the power lines to bleed off to - that is the points creates a high distribution of electrons tha nthe surrounding area and thus a high voltage.
What happens is HR hastily prints your text file resume and gives out paper copies for review - the reviewer looks at the text file dump usually with no formatting, maybe even one big blob of text characters. Its not a pretty sight and its hard to read.
We have been actively engaged in reviewing dozens of resumes every week for months now - Most of my colleagues and I can discern bad luck from a genuine loser. I do pay attention to the period between jobs, and usually I am turned off by people that only stay at a job for 2 years or less - however sometimes these guy's are exceptional performers and may be suitable for hire. Usually its easy to spot the prospect who is just not very good and always ends up on the lay-off A-list. In short be honest and forthright, if the employer is worth working for anyway, he'll be smart enough to be able to separate the good from the bad and you will have a decent shot. Pay attention to resume format - don't do anything weird or unusual (I really hate those), check your spelling, don't send plain text resumes via e-mail (uugh).
You AC's are right - in retrospect it is not "funny" - I suppose that I found the posting somewhat clever since it was primarily the factories of the WW II German war machine that the American B17's were destroying. Dresden IS a beautiful city and I like the German's, their culture, their Beer, and especially the Porsche so I apologize for the comment and further note that I would have been very offended if a Pearl Harbor comment had been made about a new AMD factory in Hawaii - sorry...
I think this post is funny - obviously the moderator who modded this as a troll was too young to understand the reference and didn't watch enough WW II war movies or Hogan's Hero's as a child...

I'll have to take one of those machines with me the next time I go camping by the lake - maybe I can link it to my WiFi enabled laptop and remotely skip stones from the comfort of my tent...
