  1. Yes he did..and it was platinum before release on Public Enemy's Next Alblum Only Online · · Score: 1

Prince (or "The Artist") did sell "Crystal Ball" initially only thru pre-orders on the internet. When they got 100,000 orders, it went to the duplicators. Freaking amazing bit of sales if you ask me. A platinum album even before it was released.

  2. Sparcs on Script Kiddy HOWTO · · Score: 1

    I've got Solaris 7 on my SS2 at home. I haven't
noticed it that much slower than Linux. Then
again, I'm only using it for a RealAudio server so, YMMV

  3. Might open a door for blizzard to be dragged thru? on Release Date for Civilization: CTP for Linux · · Score: 1

You know, what I'm hoping for is is that Civ:CTF/Linux sells very well and lokisoft might be able to convince blizzard to let them make native ports of THEIR games. I want DiabloI/II, starcraft, and warcraft NATIVE under linux damnit!

    :)

  4. TV Show? on The Science of Star Trek · · Score: 1

    That's teleportation, actually

Slightly different.. IBM has/had some web pages on this somewhere on their website...

The teleportation they were talking about basically destroys the original and a copy shows up at the other end. (in very basic terms)

    *srednop the implications of that*

  5. MP3 VS CD on MP3s Causing Decline in CD Sales? · · Score: 1

You're probably coming across import cd singles from japan or europe. They typically cost about $9-12.

  6. Nope...libc6 on Pre-Beta Slackware 4.0 · · Score: 1

..with support for libc5...just like the other distros.

  7. Not bad... on Webcast of "Bunny" · · Score: 1

Even tho the streaming video just murdered the quality.

From what you could see tho...it's quite well done...right up there with Pixar studios :)

worth the trouble to go through to see..

  8. The big boys are scared shitless on Tom Petty forced to pull mp3 from site · · Score: 1

Well, I don't much care for Tom Petty anyways...and it has nothing to do with the song....it has everything to do with money.

  9. The big boys are scared shitless on Tom Petty forced to pull mp3 from site · · Score: 1

This really really is a stupid move for WB, although you know why they did it don't you?

They saw how many people downloaded it and thought...oh SHIT...that's lots of money we could have made.

I swear, it makes me sick.... all these damn major labels consolidating and screwing everyone (the artist, the consumer, etc)

Indie labels are becoming a lot more powerful thanks to the internet. Go ahead, WB and the like...give yourself tons of bad press...only makes it better for us. :)

  10. Actually.... on UltraHLE authors not sued, Devel will Continue · · Score: 1

UltraHLE runs just fine with WINE :)
I was playin mario 64 and zelda 64 for hours today

  11. MMM....Openview on HPs Linux Push · · Score: 1

I hope they -do- port this to linux...and I also hope they don't completely screw it up like they did when they ported it to windows.

Then again...I suppose porting ANY unix app to windows involves totally screwing it up....

    *bah*...'extend and embrace,' my arse....

  12. amazing... on Company Demands 1% Share of Online Music Profit · · Score: 1

They've patented everything and nothing all in two patents.

How did this make it thru the patent office?....

and just when did life turn into the movie "Labyrinth?"

  13. Spoken like someone who's never administrated AIX. on HP and SGI Boost Linux · · Score: 1

AIX has TONS of nice features that I'd like to see in Linux. Like logical volume management, TRUE plug and play (only os I've ever seen that does it right)..and a crud load of other things I'm too tired to remember. I used to HATE AIX...but after having admin'ed some rs/6000's for the past 3 years, even tho AIX has it's quirks...I'd take an AIX box over an intel box anyday. We need to cut out the glut and dead pieces of PC architecture...it's too bloated and has too much legacy tied to it. Don't get me wrong, I use the hell out of my PII...but damn PC architecture sucks.

  14. Sacred Soul Records supports lyric sites. on Lyrics.ch Trying to Work out a Settlement · · Score: 1

Granted, we aren't one of the big 5...but we're sending our lyrics to lyrics sites as soon as I can get them all typed up.

We'll take all the free advertising we can get :)

  15. What I'd like to know is... on More Info on Pentium III, /dev/random, etc. · · Score: 1

What happens when you upgrade your system and buy a new cpu? Do you have to go to all these e-commerce sites and update your key?...and will you be able to? Same goes for if software manuf. use it as a key....wtf??!

  16. Support www.lyrics.ch on Music Industry scores the closing of www.lyrics.ch · · Score: 1

As soon as I can get the lyrics typed up, and get an email address for whoever runs www.lyrics.ch, I intend to send them all the lyrics for all vocal songs Sacred Soul Records (my record label) has released. Now, granted, SSR may not have top 40 releases (yet), but indie label support is all over the place. It saved the Audionet Jukebox, mp3.com and many other sites that are the future of music distribution. My studio/label is going to be one part of the music industry that adapts and welcomes the new technology as a valid distribution/promotional tool!

(p.s. anyone got an email addy for the guys that run www.lyrics.ch?)
