Dont forget your still bound by weather. Can you honestly say your employer will say "Oh Its cloudy out, you dont have to come in." I know it sounds stupid but you cant fly into the clouds or rain without an instrument rating.

Even though the regulations for type of aircraft are changing, you still cant fly into a cloud without instrument ratings.

The only way this would work for you would be to purchase your own 2 seater airplane (around $35k used) and get your instrument rating. Then your good rain or shine or cloud or whatever.

  4. Re:You gotta be nuts on FAA Approves Sport Pilot License · · Score: 1

I hear and see a lot more car accidents every day than I do Airplane accidents. As a pilot I pay close attention to the news and pilot lounge talk regarding accidents. Stupidity or incomplete checklists cause accidents. Most problems are found on the ground before takeoff.

In a car, when your engine goes dead at high speed you lose power steering, antilock and a host of other things. In an airplane after you do your emergency checklist you pick a landing spot and glide. Chances are really good that you will land without damage.

Do you walk around your car, check your oil, look for water or dirt in your fuel check your tires for bald spots check your steering linkage or even do anything before you get in? You have to in an airplane or your just plain stupid. Here is the checklist that has to be done every time for the plane model I fly.

  10. Re:Car reviews Motorcycles and Televisions on Are Review Units Better Than Store Versions? · · Score: 1

They do something called "Blueprinting" They make sure every part is exactly factory specs. No play in clearances, valve sizes boring etc.

I used to do this with motorcycles and it usually took a week to bore everything out and match exact factory specs. The change between an out of the crate bike and a blueprinted bike was substantial. The exact same thing can be done with anything Cars, Hardware televisions etc.

An old sales trick with televisions is to adjust all the settings internally to make it have the best picture possible. Depending on what they got a commision on they would go to a better quality TV and adjust the contrast, brightness etc so that it would look like a lower quality than the one they got the most $$ from when viewed side by side.

  11. Why Not? on SCO Gives Friday Deadline To IBM · · Score: 1

Why hasn't anyone talked about the current SCO license some of us have? This whole mess makes me want to rid myself of every SCO license my employer has. (Yes that is my call.) What is going to stop SCO from coming after some of its older customers and forcing them to upgrade? Once a bully is successfull they get worse and worse. Goodbye SCO, I hope your stock goes to a 52 week low of $0 as a result of this attempt.

  13. Name change on Slashback: Google, Prince, Bayesian · · Score: 1

The reason Prince went with the symbol for his name was to show his contempt for the music industry. Look at his WB contract termination then look at his discography. When his absurd contract ended his name was changed back to Prince. In an interview Prince stated:

"The first step I have taken towards the ultimate goal of emancipation from the chains that bind me to Warner Bros. was to change my name from Prince to 0{+>. Prince is the name that my Mother gave me at birth. Warner Bros. took the name, trademarked it, and used it as the main marketing tool to promote all of the music that I wrote. The company owns the name Prince and all related music marketed under Prince. I became merely a pawn used to produce more money for Warner Bros...."

(Yes his birth certificate read "Prince Rogers Nelson". The beatings he must have gotten....)

Prince has been an opponent to "big business music" for a very long time. As a result he doesn't own the rights to most of his own original recordings.

  14. DONT DO IT!!! on Is it Wrong to Accept an Employment Counter-Offer? · · Score: 1

I did accept a counter offer and now my job is a living hell. The 10 reasons in the link are almost dead on. The only thing that was different was my peers thanked me for not leaving them in a rut with a new person with no training.

My company is looking at replacing me now that they know that I want to be paid what I am worth. (Horrible of me isn't it.) Things will not be the same after taking the counter offer. Management thinks that you will need to go above and beyond on everything (because they threw you the bone and "kept" you.) Did I mention DONT DO IT!
