I highly doubt it. The next iMac design isn't slated to be announced at this show, and I would be very surprised to learn the iMac would gain a (more expensive, larger) 17" display.

No, it won't be a 17" display, but it is supposed to have a larger display than it does now. Something like 16". I also hear the price may be coming down to $1099 or $999.

I agree. Apple wants QT to be THE standard for delivering video web. They know they won't put a dent on the server market anytime soon. So why hurt QT by strapping the streaming server to OS X Server? Besides, I think Apple needs the support of the Linux community in order to suceed with any open source plans. This might be one way of getting favor.

  16. Imac is a great design idea on Dell is Building iMac Lookalikes · · Score: 1

Here's a clip of an article from MacOS Rumors (a great Mac news site).

"Later in the year, the "C2" iMac will ship (release dates have fluctuated, but what is known is that "it will ship before the school year begins." This will start at either 350 or 366MHz, depending on Apple's RAM specification plans. Speculation with a strong basis in fact points to Apple plans to spec' this machine with a standard 64MB of SDRAM. There will reportedly be at least one DVD configuration, graphics will be provided by a version of the RAGE 128 graphics chip with 8MB of SGRAM, and Firewire will be on-board. Rumors of PCI slots capable of accepting 5" cards continue to be unconfirmed and considered unreliable. The C2 is expected to retail for $999."

There's your $999 price point and with FireWire. I want one. Even if you don't like the MacOS, I think this would make an awesome Linux machine. Anyone working on FireWire drivers for Linux?

Super VHS came into the picture too late. By the time it came out, nobody wanted to spend extra money on a tape format. Discs are the only way to go. You can talk about how they should have made DVDs work with HDTV, but HDTV isn't really here. At least not on a consumer level. So if you want to wait for something better, then wait. But something even better will always be around the corner whenever you decide to upgrade. The same is true of computers. You may wait for that 800Mhz processor, but a 1.2Ghz will be waiting when the 800Mhz is available. Today's technology best serves today's needs.

Until then, I enjoy watching my movies on the best looking consumer format available. Dolby 5.1 rocks too.
