    You are in a minority. The ports are not as fragile as you claim, or there would be far more outcry.

    While something better could be made standard, it isn't and should not be a priority.

    All of those positive attributes apply to mplayer,e xcept mplayer doesn't need any additional dll's and is much easier to configure.

    And really, Linux doesn't matter here. VLC is popular because of windows users who use it...while Linux users use it to, that isn't why it's popular and famous among non techies...

    Basically Mplayer is smaller, easier to manage, more configurable and less buggy. Not sure why VLC holds the title in the peoples eye.

    Alt-Gr is one of the stupidest keyboard modifications I've scene. On many keyboards in the EU, Alt-Gr functions like a second shift key, eg. alt-gr and 4 will give the euro symbol....but why not just make this behaviour bound to alt? Why invent alt-gr?

    But I've always preferred smplayer.

    The client server architecture is generally unneeded for home use, and so is a kind of bloat.

    Mplayer supports all codecs and is a statically compiled exe...you can take it with you on a thumbdrive....dont need to install it....works perfectly.

    SMplayer is nice, lightweight...again supports all codecs...and has very nice features and is very configurable.

    I never got why VNC became as popular as it did.

    is that everyone insists they are 100% healthy, and have none of the problems of traditional cigarettes.

    Just because they don't share the same issues as cigarettes doesn't mean they are completely healthy. We need to wait until studies are done.

    Given that studies have shown risk associated with nicotine patches and harmful chemicals have been found in ecigs, I think I'll wait.

    Also, screw all the people who exhale in public places because they think it's acceptable to bother people with vapor because it isn't smoke.

    It sounds like he abused his privileges to confirm his suspicions, and then took a course of action. Which is the right approach, depending on the suspicions.

  17. It's bullshit. If I know for a fact that you're driving, if I'm in the passenger seat in the car next to you and text you, you shouldn't fucking check it.

    Text's are like emails...once recevied, they can be viewed at any later time. There is nothing that says they need to be checked IMMEDIATELY.

    The responsibility is solely on the driver not to check text messages. I, as the sender should be able to send a text and know the person will be responsible and not check it until after they have stopped.

    I'm familiar with the concept of a person being a product, in terms of the information representing them. It's just nonsense.

    Facebook's information on people is no different from a survey. It's just that they have lots and lots and lots of surveys.

    As for information being sold individually...no, I'm not naive. That's an extraordinary claim, which requires extraordinary evidence.

    Well no, the tiny bits of information has about that person is the product. The person is still the person.

    If I do a survey among 100 people of which you are 1 about favorite flavors of ice cream, and sell it to a girl your dating so she can surprise you....my survey is the product, not you.

    Anyway, I thought it was illegal to sell an individuals information like that?

    How is it apples and oranges to compare the EU to the US? Both the US and EU are unions consisting of states. That the states in the EU are also separate countries doesn't seem to have as much a bearing on the comparison as you think it ought to.

    Certainly all the lists of ranked economies, e.g. those put out by the IMF and World Bank don't have a problem comparing the EU to the US, China and the like.

    The US is no longer the worlds biggest economy. The US hasn't done anything to improve the internet in quiet some time.

    Unless you count surveillance and censorship.
