"Toyota is planning on become the first auto maker to market a pollution-free vehicle featuring a hydrogen-powered fuel cell engine. The FCHV-E will begin selling in Tokyo next summer for about US$75,000. The launch will be limited to Tokyo as that is the only city which will have hydrogen refuelling stations. The FCVH-4 can reach speeds up to 150 kph, and can travel 250 kms between refuelling." (Tokyo Shimbun)
Dear lord indeed...
I find it sad that there is such widespread condemnation for the Matrix, as is particularly well illustrated in your comment. For the most part, it seems that people are afraid to say it is a good movie, perhaps because of the subject matter/high amount of special effects/martial arts/the list goes on...
The Matrix is a good, very intelligent movie. For one thing, it offers one of the most seamless interpretations of Descartian philosophy that cinema has offered us in the last couple of years (for those of you unfamiliar with Descartes, one of his more popular "philosophies" was the "I think therefore I am", beautifully dealt with throughout the movie - there is no spoon. Read up a little of his work if you have the time, it's well worth it). I'm tired, but the list goes on - I just find it amazing the the symbolism in the Matrix is so underestimated (or maybe it is the sad reality that moviegoers truly don't bother thinking about the films they watch any more). Anyhow, I am not a Matrix fanatic, I just happens to be a movie fanatic that thinks the Matrix is a great film, and that it does not deserve the amount of bashing that it gets.

I boarded a flight at 7pm last night in JFK. At the time of course, security was not an important issue in my mind, yet I noticed something rather surprising as I went to my boarding gate. After checking in, my aunt and uncle decided to join me as far as they could come before I got on the plane. We were all very surprised when the three of us found they were able to come with me *right up to the boarding gate itself*. There was no control of my passport and ticket, no barriers or checkpoints to make sure the person getting on the plane was the same person that checked in. I literally could have given my aunt or uncle my ticket and they could have boarded the plane in my place.
Now can anybody explain to me exactly how the hell anyone can find out who is responsible for these atrocities when we can't even be sure who boarded the planes?
Another point to consider are the rapidly emerging companies involved in distributes computing. Fine, I will admit that there is a nuance between this thread and setups like Seti@Home, but what about other companies, for example the much spoken of as of late United Devices. In some cases, a large number of people have downloaded the client numbercrunchers (be it to search for aliens or to fight cancer), unaware that a portion of the time spent is used on for-profit processing. In effect, there are undeniable similarities between these two situations, don't you think?
I must say, I am highly impressed that Katz continues to write for slashdot, despite consistant bashing of every article he posts, without exception.
To this effect, one could hold him as an example of journalistic integrity, braving the rain and hail in order to inform us, the unwashed masses. Thank you Jon.
For any americans reading this, it is an exercise in irony. Click the link, read the def, and don't get too heated up.
There are other examples of a hybridisation between real time and turn based games that have emerged over the past few years. One such example is Blue Byte's Incubation, a turn based squad combat game with pretty damn good 3D graphics.
There were also the Fallout games that followed this trend, one which incidentally is very much still alive. The creators of the Fallout series later split away from Interplay and formed Troika Studios, which are releasing a game called Arcanum. This will follow in the vein of the Fallout series, and to date looks amazing.
and it's propping, not proping. i may need therapy, but you my friend need a decent education

Don't be mistaken, Santa is simply a misunderstanding. SATAN is behind it all. Don't any of you "hackers" out there pretend that the last server you h4Ck3d is anything more than a present from SATAN... Beware.
You know damn well what I'm talking about.
This one sounds like it'll be no more popular than minidisks.
im not sure about america, but in europe minidiscs have become extremely popular. two or three years ago when they were first marketed here in france, it was admittedly a niche interest. but now almost everybody i know has traded in the discmans for an md player
How many people use Napster, or at least know of it? Thanks to media coverage, even my mom knows all about Napster(my mother doesnt know how to change the channel on the TV, never mind use a computer). How many people who this comment will reach are even going to know *what* a firewall is? The way I see it, Steve Heckler was doing no more than talking big, using a word that does actually sound pretty intimidating/cool;)
Way to go dick
" What is the environmental impact of letting tons of nitrogen a day escape into the atmosphere?" seeing how 21% of the atmosphere is already nitrogen, I don't see how this could cause a huge imbalance. after thousands of years breathing in relatively high quantities of the stuff shouldn't our bodies have adapted to getting rid of it already?
i lived in china for between 90-95, and remain in contact with a number of friends i made during the time. ok, perhaps they have extremely unstable connections, but with IM programs like icq, as well as email there is little difference between chatting with a friend in england for example. and i have never heard from anyone i know there that their access was restricted in any way

A $500 fine? Am I the only person to find this part a little odd? The cost of the advertising space alone is a few zeroes longer I imagine...
